Re: 2005-2006 PWR - playoffs edition! - 18 years ago
RichHWinnabago Ok, I'll ask the question. Is there a financial or other IVY-related reason that Cornell does not apply to host a regional at Blue Cross or the OnCenter? I would imagine that there is significant cost to rent the building, but that would be offset by ticket revenue (and the NCAA distributes teams to help attendance). They use Rochester as a neutral site already, so it can't beby Winnabago - Hockey
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - playoffs edition! - 18 years ago
Jim HylaSteve M That figures. The ECAC wouldn't want to give Cornell an unfair advantage or anything. Come on, Cornell could have applied to the NCAA to hold a tourney. That's what the ECAC did and they got it. BU regularly does this at Worcester. I think some of us are too paranoid. Ok, I'll ask the question. cth95I mean he was the keynote speaker. I don't think that is normal. For example, I think Hillary Clinton spoke a few years ago. Feel free, anyone, to correct me if I am wrong. Hilary spoke to a mostly female crowd in Barton mid-semester, I recall not knowing about it and wondering what the black lincoln procession was for, so much so that I wandered in and listened. redGrinch FYI, Engelstad is NHL size; I believe Green Bay is also. Also ECACHL is the host for Rochester - all host data can be found here: It's been discussed before, but the problem with western regional sites is there just aren't too many neutral site rinks that can be used.... Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
Does that mean that we should drop a few in the PWR? I always get incensed this time of year when such inane scenarios start to play out. Come on, it has to be a neutral game, no matter what. Am I the only one who feels like it's a big part of the western dominance lately in the tourney? They're getting home games and revenue out of the national tournament! Re: Minnesota - 18 years ago
djk26I don't think this will make anyone feel better, but I rememember Minnesota being SCARY good that year. I think they proved that they were the best team in the country. But yeah, of course I wish Cornell could have beaten New Hampshire and gotten their shot at Minnesota and a chance to prove that THEY were the best. Ugh...that disallowed goal... Re: 2004 All Over Again? - 18 years ago
Al DeFlorioWinnabagoThe one and only thing that makes it just a little better is remembering back to the QF game that year against BC, where they had a late goal wiped off because of a questionable in-the-crease call which allowed us to regroup and close them out. With all the twists and turns of a game - the 8 minute delay that comes with a video review was far more damaging than the actualby Winnabago - Hockey
Re: 2004 All Over Again? - 18 years ago
Steve M I won't ever be completely over it unless we win an NC in my lifetime. I hate to blame officiating for an outcome of a game, but every time I see a deflected goal reviewed and hear the announcers invariably say "the video replay has to be conclusive to overturn the call," the memory of that day makes my blood boil all over again. The one and only thing that makes it just aby Winnabago - Hockey

That is the low point of my sports-following life: easily the most personally devestating loss I've ever witnessed. At the danger of turning the thread toward "worst sports moments ever," I wanted to mention that you guys have caused me to recollect the previously-buried horror of seeing this game in 2003. It was made so much worse as I was sitting in the same section of the HSBC wby Winnabago - Hockey

Re: Hockey at Fenway? - 18 years ago
jmh30WinnabagoOh, and Fenway is not a bad place to visit when it's not overrun by Sox nuts. I would be first in line for the hockey game(s) there. You know all those BU and BC fans who will show up for hockey games there? What baseball team you think they root for? I trust BU fans can make the 5 minute walk from Agganis, but BC? Come on, that's far. And, no, I'm not going to be wearing a Jby Winnabago - Hockey

The Green Line, subways that stop running at 00:30, no subway-to-bus transfers, having to change lines twice to get from Harvard/MIT to the airport, bars that throw you out instead of giving you drinking-up time, bars that don't take out-of-state IDs from people under 25 ... Re: Colgate away broadcast / Boston - Sports Depot confirmed - 18 years ago
That's great! I'll be there with at least one other, maybe two. Someone mentioned on here that it would be a $6 cab ride from Harvard square to the bar in Allston. As with any cab, it could vary GREATLY, particularly in Boston. I always seem to get hit with $15 for seemingly short trips. I would guess that the best way over is to take the Green line "b" from Kenmore to Harvard Aby Winnabago - Hockey

Re: worst restaurant EVER - 18 years ago
All sarcasm aside, there was a place we found that was actually not bad for food, atmosphere, or price. It was on a little driveway that was actually, truly called Nugget Alley. I think that was the restaurant's name too. It was directly under Murphy's pub - entrance was from the side around the corner. Re: Why is the second Niagara game in Rochester? - 18 years ago
In response to the original topic on the list. Anyone who has ever been to a game at Dwyer up in Lewiston knows why the big name programs don't want to play there. I lived nearby for several years after I graduated, and would go to see the likes of Canisius and Wayne State for three dollars. Just as a general warning, in addition to parking issues around Harvard square, the Allston/Cambridge exit off the pike can be a traffic nightmare after 5 on fridays. This caused us to miss the first period of the game back in 2002. I recommend leaving as much time as possible. Re: Buffalo Viewing Party - 19 years ago
There is still a small chance that it will be on the local Buffalo Adelphia channel (A13), as the local rep tells me there is 'a college hockey game' on their programming guide. However, we might get Michigan-CC. I'm planning on taking the ride out to Batavia to make sure, as their provider is TWC Rochester. That is, unless I can get an answer from BWW about Altitude. Re: Buffalo Viewing Party - 19 years ago
Spoke to someone at Wild Wings on Transit Rd., and they will be showing Michigan-CC. They couldn't find our game in their program guide-which probably means they dont have the Altitude alternate channel. Does anyone know how to find out the closest location that would get TWC Rochester? I'm checking the TWC website now... Re: Buffalo Viewing Party - 19 years ago
I have been unable to find any sports bar that has DirectTV, but I am still looking around (I am on Grand Island). This Altitude alternate feed is difficult to find. Adelphia A13 placed an ad in the Buffalo News yesterday about showing friday night's BU and BC games, but I see no similar ad today.
