After having an earlier goal overturned due to play being offside, Malinski had the GWG (on a power play) in Colorado’s 7-4 win over Ottawa. Video:by sah67 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the pros 23-24 - 3 months ago
Malinski just scored to put Colorado up 3-2 over the Bruins in the second period. The Avs broadcasters were raving about how “Makar-like” his play was (walking the blue line and shaking the Boston defender before wiring home a wrister.)by sah67 - Hockey

College Hockey Gameday at Lynah Rink - 4 months ago
The Everything College Hockey Youtube channel filmed a "Game Day" at Lynah on the day of the Harvard game. Despite knowing what the unfortunate game outcome will be, there's lots of fun behind-the-scenes footage from the morning skate, locker room, coaching and training areas, etc (and a brief interview with the AD):by sah67 - Hockey

Barron scored the OT winner in the Winnipeg-Montreal game tonight, but not Morgan: his younger brother Justin won it for the Habs (with Morgan on the ice trying to kill the penalty) in the battle of the Barron brothers.by sah67 - Hockey

LGR14 Red on Red violence. MacDonald just got a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for boarding Malinski. Malinski did return to the game after getting some repairs. The hit itself didn't actually look too terrible: it was compounded by Malinski tripping and falling into the boards at the same time that MacDonald was finishing his check.by sah67 - Hockey

On the subject of alumni in Europe: Joel Lowry and Jake Weidner are teammates in the German second-tier league, playing for the Kassel Huskies. Weidner is their 3rd leading scorer (and Lowry 5th) in the current season.by sah67 - Hockey

The Colorado goaltender was not pleased with Malinski inadvertently screening him on the goal that made it 3-1 Winnipeg, and gave Sam a glare and a nasty little "get out of my way, rookie" love-tap after the fact:by sah67 - Hockey

Malinski vs. Barron tonight, and Sam gets his first NHL point with a secondary assist on a nice play that set up a Nathan MacKinnon breakaway goal.by sah67 - Hockey

Schafer’s postgame comments to the Sun: “I told after the game, it’s been so long since I’ve been this pissed off, angry and disappointed in a hockey team,” Schafer said. “Just so many mistakes throughout the course of the night,” Schafer explained. “We talked about trying to grow as a hockey team, and we’ve made some good strides, and we just reverted back to some terrible habits tonigby sah67 - Hockey

Still a big concern for me at the moment is how easily smaller teams are muscling our D around on the forecheck and forcing turnovers. This happened constantly during the Harvard game, and the game-winner at Princeton was a direct result of one of our D-men (Robertson I think) getting roughed up by a Princeton forechecker and coughing up the puck deep in our zone.by sah67 - Hockey

arugula Schaf may not be comfortable with it, but maybe a forward at the pp point. Castagna seems like could do it. It seems like Schafer has always been hesitant to run a power-play with four forwards, although I recall them trying it occasionally in recent seasons (maybe with Barron, but I could be wrong?) I also noticed that in 3-on3 overtime Schafer is consistently putting out 1 forwardby sah67 - Hockey

scoop85 Tonight Psenicka had several golden opportunities that he just couldn’t bury. Mind boggling. I feel like the majority of Psenicka's goals in previous seasons were tips and deflections from the slot or right in front of the net, and yet he never seems to be positioned in those spots on the PP this year. I'm also not sold on Rego getting as much PP time as he does, let alone quarterbacby sah67 - Hockey

I was also surprised (at least in the first period) how easily the Harvard forecheckers (even the smaller guys) were winning puck battles and muscling us around, seemingly out-"Cornell-ing" us. Here's Schafer's take on the power play efforts, from the Sun recap: “I thought the power play for the first time this year got selfish,” Schafer said. “ didn’t really move the puck around andby sah67 - Hockey

Why does it seem like every time an opponent is trailing us late and pulls their goalie for the extra attacker, we end up facing a barrage of shots and "close calls", but when we pull our goalie we can barely keep it in their zone, let alone get high-quality SOGs? Do they need to practice 6x5 more often?by sah67 - Hockey

The UMD coach discussing Adam Johnson, a former UMD player, who passed away after a terrible on-ice skate blade incident earlier on Saturday in England: Scott Sandelin “This is just so hard to grasp. He’ll be missed, man. Too short. Too short. Twenty-nine years old. This puts a lot of things into perspective. The game (at Cornell) didn’t mean jack s— last night for me.”by sah67 - Hockey

adamw ... but I mean I had the same exact impression watching the game, so it was interesting to hear these comments from Coach, and kudos to him for saying it. Cornell had a perfect plan to stop Harvard, but you could tell that Mitchell/Malinski/et al were very passive defensively. Unlike common misconceptions about Cornell, they are not known for sitting back. The D pinch a lot, and aggressivelby sah67 - Hockey

More from DU's coach on the matchup from a CHN profile on them: " Mike Schafer has been doing an excellent job for a number of years," Carle said, learning that Schafer was a senior for the Big Red in 1986 the last time the two teams played in the NCAA tourney. "For me, they have good special teams. Their puck pressure game is very good. Neutral zone, I think that's he biggest chaby sah67 - Hockey
