CU77 I like the Massey ratings, which take into account scores, game location, and recency. The precise formula is not disclosed, but the results comport pretty well with eyeball opinion (given the high uncertainties in that). Ratings are updated daily. Cornell is currently #11. Cornell is #10 in RPI and also in the laxmath power rating (based on goal differential) Admittedly, I don'tby nshapiro - Other Sports

Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - 5 months ago
billhoward nshapiro And I believe that winning the last two Ivy league games gets Cornell #1 seed in the tournament In a scenario where Penn and Cornell finish at 1 loss, everyone else has 2 losses, Cornell loses the H2H. Among the one-loss teams, Yale or Princeton will have one more loss on the final weekend (because they play each other). Ditto Penn or Princeton the weekend before, same reason.by nshapiro - Other Sports

Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - 5 months ago
billhoward Thinking about Cornell's chances for hosting the 2024 Ivy League lacrosse tournament the first weekend in May. It goes to the school with the best record. If there's a tie, it goes to the team with the best combined record against the others tied for first. So that one-goal Cornell loss to Penn is an issue. With Ivy 3 games left for Penn, Yale, Princeton and Cornell, 4 left for Harvardby nshapiro - Other Sports

billhoward nshapiro billhoward * We've already got five of our 13 games against non-league teams this week rated top 20 – Denver, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Notre Dame – and four Ivy teams. No Southern teams, tho. Aren't Syracuse and ND Southern teams now? As Stanford, Cal and SMU are now 3, 3 and 1 time zones removed from the location implied by Atlantic Coast Conference. Trotsky Pay makes sense if the university is making money off the players. Give them a percentage of the net profit. For every sport except football and basketball, the net profit is zero. Problem solved. Not that it was a problem, since "but it's inconvenient and complicated" are not good reasons to exploit people. Does Dartmouth basketball make a profit?by nshapiro - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell at Dartmouth, 1/27 - 7 months ago
Iceberg Dafatone I'm kinda stuck here, because on one hand I tend to be relatively optimistic, but on the other hand I somehow hate Dartmouth more than Harvard. I always found the games against Dartmouth to be contentious affairs and often more exciting that the games against Harvard the night before or after. With Gaudet behind the bench, you would figure some kind of shenanigans would happenby nshapiro - Hockey

Weder ugarte Weder chimpfood Penn beats Villanova, stop sleeping on the Ivy League. Also, how in the world did Penn manage to get Villanova and Kentucky to come to their house this year? I would kill to just get Syracuse to come to Newman once. Penn-Villanova is a Big 5 game, so those get rotated around all the Philly schools’ home courts.
