Re: Cornell lax — 2025 playoffs - 2 months ago
BearLover It is going to be important to be on the opposite side of the NCAA bracket from Maryland. They are 10-2 with their losses being a combined 3 goals, against a much harder schedule than Cornell’s (their SOS is 1st in the country, though ours isn’t too shabby at 11th). Why? If we are the 2nd seed and play the late game on the first round of Memorial Day weekend, aren't we at a disadvaby nshapiro - Other Sports

Scersk '97 RichH Honestly, it should always be Cornell-Syracuse. We played the last two years, but did they really drop us for Princeton as an annual thing?? Really?? Maybe they got annoyed because they couldn’t win outside the dome. Our annual fixtures should be Hobart and Syracuse, because and because. If Syracuse is not an annual thing anymore, then that's an indictment of Syracuse; thus, weby nshapiro - Other Sports

CU77 upprdeck I didnt think Lax used straight RPI type stuff like hockey does though? Officially, no. Unofficially, kinda yes. Committee chair one year said they just started with the RPI list and then made adjustments. This is a consequence of the official criteria being basically impossible to grok: Primary Criteria: Strength-of-schedule index Results of the RPI: - Record against rby nshapiro - Other Sports

RichH dag14 chimpfood How on earth do you register on fanlax? I’ve tried to to make an account multiple times but the confirmation question says “Paul and Gary’s last name. 4 letters.” I’ve tried putting random stuff but it says invalid answer. Trotsky upprdeck The only thing that has changed from where people started the year is we are playing Quin in the Semi and not the finalsWell said. Nail Rand in a pine box and then bring on the Final. I disagree completely. stereax chimpfood Part of it might be that they don’t want to do a return trip but I believe Penn/princeton got Duke/UNC for home and home weekends this year and last so it’s not like they won’t come to ivies. Part of it is also probably just the travel. Look at the Richmond game this year, we went south and almost lost to a much worse team. Yeah. At 184, the ref ruled that Hale had reversed back over Foca (which is why Foca was down on the restart), but Hale did not realize it, and got penalized for locking hands which he is allowed to do in the neutral position, but not when he is on top. Re: ECAC 2025 - after Feb. 2 games - 5 months ago
At this point I am hoping for a repeat of 1980. An underperforming Cornell team finished 8th and then won the ECACs. That team also lost two regular season games to Dartmouth, then went on to beat the Big Green in the ECAC final, before losing to them in the NCAA consolation game. 1-3 vs. one of the few good Dartmouth teams in the last 50 years...but winning the one game that really mattby nshapiro - Hockey

CU77 I like the Massey ratings, which take into account scores, game location, and recency. The precise formula is not disclosed, but the results comport pretty well with eyeball opinion (given the high uncertainties in that). Ratings are updated daily. Cornell is currently #11. Cornell is #10 in RPI and also in the laxmath power rating (based on goal differential) Admittedly, I don'tby nshapiro - Other Sports

Re: Men's Lax Tournament 2024 - 1 year ago
billhoward nshapiro And I believe that winning the last two Ivy league games gets Cornell #1 seed in the tournament In a scenario where Penn and Cornell finish at 1 loss, everyone else has 2 losses, Cornell loses the H2H. Among the one-loss teams, Yale or Princeton will have one more loss on the final weekend (because they play each other). Ditto Penn or Princeton the weekend before, same reason.by nshapiro - Other Sports
