Re: The New Cowbell Guy - 14 years ago
RobertSchur Hello everyone! As Elie mentioned, my name is Robert Schur and I am the new cowbell guy, here to introduce myself. A little about me: I'm a sophomore history major in the College of Arts and Sceiences. Outside of Lynah and the classroom, I work as a campus tour guide and am also a newscaster, sportscaster and DJ on WVBR 93.5 FM, also serving on the station's executive committee aby Doug '08 - Hockey

Soon... but not soon enough... - 14 years ago
We will all again be basking in the surreal aura that is CORNELL BIG RED HOCKEY. Nothing unites Cornellians (except for maybe dunbars, which has DEFINITLY inspired this post right now) more than the hallowed grounds of Lynah rink... an adrenaline rush like no there. This is our place on earth. One day a naive "facetimer" comes to his first game. Opponents for the today: crimson ofby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Harvard Post-game - 15 years ago
imafrshmnjtwcornell91CUontheslopesI was a little disappointed at the turnout - there were still quite a few empty seats and I was shocked to hear that tix were available up until 1pm on Friday. I remember being so crunched in for Harvard games that you had to stand sideways to fit everyone in the section. It's an absolute outrage how badly the Athletic Dept. has handled this situation. Re: A note about the Cowbell - 15 years ago
Playing the cowbell is definitely harder than people think. In addition to getting the rhythm down, it is tough to contend with the PA announcer, any obnoxious music the arena is playing, and even our own Pep Band. Not to mention, standing in front of thousands of people (some of whom absolutely hate you and can't wait to find you after the game in parking lot, read: Colgate) isn't always the mby Doug '08 - Hockey
Shots discrepency - 15 years ago
Am I remembering this right, or isn't Colgate the wacky rink that records "saves" and not "shots" on the scoreboard? Perhaps that could have caused some of the confusion... always pissed me off, ALMOST as much as the big red chewing gum and free pizza give aways. Although hey, at least we brought our jerseys this game.by Doug '08 - Hockey

Re: princeton tickets - 15 years ago
Last year was the only year in the past 4 where tickets have been popular there, most likely due to the success of their team, that being said I ended up giving away some extras I had before the game and they were selling standing room tickets through at least the first period. I always used to get tickets from the Cornell box office directly, although you can certainly get them from Princetonby Doug '08 - Hockey
OT: Graduation Day - 15 years ago
Cornell Hockey has been the one constant in my four years here. Good week or bad week, in Ithaca or on the road, looking forward to Friday and Saturday night hockey is part of what made these the best four years of my life. I really thought the 04-05 team had a chance to win it all, and my sophomore year I saw us come one Dan Glover crossbar shot away from a frozen four- I guess I am now juby Doug '08 - Hockey

I hope the team is able to make major adjustments before Friday, we were outworked, outcoached, and outplayed all 6 periods.by Doug '08 - Hockey

Re: Game 3's Sunday 3/16 - 16 years ago
redhair34Clarkson should win this the longer it goes as they have more depth, but I'd hate to have to face those seniors fighting for their lives--Burton, Winchester and Dekanich. Definitely agree, the longer the game goes the better it is for Clarkson. That being said, as we all know anything can happen in this sport, especially in this situation.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Game 3's Sunday 3/16 - 16 years ago
BigRedChsHdSo, do you think that it is possible that Clarkson would fall down far enough in the PWR if they lost this game to not make the tourney? They are tied for 9 right now, with the two Minn teams right behind them (I'm guessing the winner would jump ahead?)... Clarkson is pretty much a lock to make the tourney regardlessby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Game 3's Sunday 3/16 - 16 years ago
I must say I am rooting for Clarkson. Cornell matches up much better with them than they do Harvard and the 4PM start time would leave us better rested for the Final.by Doug '08 - Hockey

Re: Union Roll Call - 16 years ago
The design of that rink is one of the worst I have ever seen, especially given that it isn't even that old... bleachers on top of other bleachers with stairs awkwardly placed on top of and in between other sections. I just pulled out my stub from this year and was in section 5, which I know is always a visitors section, along with section 6. It has also been my impression that some of the adjaby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Cowbell - 16 years ago
I am just now re-reading the game thread. It was an honor to have the privledge to pass cowbell duties on to Mitch, who apparently both elynah and the Cornell Daily Sun dub a worthy successor. I can't wait to come back to games an an alum, but I know Lynah will never be the same experiance it was for me these past four years. Right now though I am thankful that I have at least one more weekeby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Round 1: Post-series Thread - 16 years ago
I expected the third game to a blowout- I just didn't know which way, what a great way to win an up and down series. Mike Devine was the best player of the series and stood on his head to keep his team in it. My hat is certainly off to him. Dartmouth is a better team than I gave them credit for, they outworked, out-coached, and just flat out-played us for a good portion of the series. I tby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Yost - 16 years ago
Dpperk29Early reports from the playoffs is that the Lynah Faithful have stolen Clarkson's "Huah Huah Huah" 300 style chant... yup, noticed that as well, but hey its alright because all your chants are movie quotes anyway, right??by Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: How far Cornell hasn't fallen this year - 16 years ago
I wasn't saying anything about the future of the program, just that it is a disservice to Cornell hockey to compare it to Dartmouth and SLU.by Doug '08 - Hockey
Not a fair comparisson - 16 years ago
I don't think you can compare Cornell's program to St. Lawrence or Dartmouth. Cornell has the tradition, money, infrastructure, recruiting network, not to mention player caliber to expect to be a top 10 team every year. Simply put, Dartmouth and SLU are just not the same kind of program. I'm sure this is a poor analogy, but I don't think any Notre Dame football fan takes solace in the fact tby Doug '08 - Hockey

Re: The Athletic Department and Cornell Hockey - 16 years ago
I think the bottom line is that Athletics takes hockey fans for granted, and just assume that they will always sell out the rink, pay inflated prices for tickets, and put up with anything because they are holding all the cards. And when the team is good, and winning, all of these things may be true, but when the team is losing, unfortunately, they aren't; the administration is slowly killingby Doug '08 - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd 3 @ Cornell 1 Postgame - 16 years ago
Cornell95Just scanning the box score I am shocked that it appears we were 50/50 at the faceoff circle, over the game. Would love to see a breakdown by period... Dufault absolutely killed us in the 3rd at the faceoff (not to mention the goals) I'd say we were winning the majority of the draws in the first and second period, so a 50/50 split actually seems reasonable to me because you're right-by Doug '08 - Hockey
