He hung up the skates and is skiing/golfing at college now. Got some interest from St. Lawrence but didn't want to grind it out in juniors for two years. Honestly, it was a good decision for him. You have to be 100% dedicated and for some when you start skating at 2 and doing power skating at 4 the interest level wanes.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Yet another collegetown bar bites the dust - 11 months ago
Scersk '97 Jeff Hopkins '82 FWIW, Dunbar's was very thorough about checking IDs when I was a student. Back when we had a more rational drinking age, I suspect a great many bars were much more thorough in checking IDs. Separating the high-school crowd from the college crowd makes sense; separating the college crowd from itself never really has.During my years (88-92) it was usually a backup goalby RatushnyFan - John Spencer Is Dead

Pghas My understanding is that Wishart is headed to play at Middlebury. Such a difficult thing to predict who will develop and how. Guys who lit it up in juniors sometimes get to college and are a little fried and maybe don't push as much as they once did. Or maybe they hit a ceiling while other kids really do not. I have a son who is a good player and what they tell you is that as you movby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Scersk '97 Just noticed Ryan St. Louis, Martin's son, transferred to Brown, after a sojourn back in the USHL this last year, from Northeastern. Watch out for Bruno next year! He's a good player, my son played with him a bit (dad was the coach, and super nice guy). But the numbers at Northeastern are what they are, I think he had every opportunity there. Wish him the best at Brown (other than 2xby RatushnyFan - Hockey

Trotsky The hell are the Yale Jr. Bulldogs 18U AAA and how do we get one of those? My son played for them a couple of years ago when he was at Gunnery. Split season team for New England prep school kids. (Usually better than you'd think given the name)by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: 2022 Incoming Recruits - 2 years ago
They were big but not so lumbering........I was impressed with their skating and tenacity which led to long stretches of possession. It wasn't a fluke or even very close IMO.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

CAS Think the Harvard recruit is Ben MacDonald, who’s dad is former Harvard player Lane MacDonald. Amazing how much taller he is than his dad. I met Lane a few times when he was at Alta Communications (PE fund). Super nice guy. I think he mentioned he married a Cornell grad who is a Cornell hockey fan?by RatushnyFan - Hockey

Re: Ertel to OHL - 3 years ago
Interesting this is happening with draft picks. Tyler Boucher (1st round pick) left BU after just 17 games. What I don't like is they're giving up a college education and have 1-2 years to become pro ready against weaker competition. Not sure it's the right move, I wouldn't want my kid to do it. Suck it up, work harder, force your way into the line-up.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

scoop85 Western Michigan beat Northeastern 2-1 on a goal early in OT. Michigan now manhandling AIC 2-0 halfway through the 1st, and it could be a lot worse. Michigan Freshman D Luke Hughes is absolutely filthy and he will be a great addition to the Devils, who already are loaded with excellent young talent. He is amazing for a 2003 birth year. Absolutely controls the game offensively at times.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: NCAA hockey 2022 tournament - 3 years ago
Minn State is really tough. If they can get past that game (10%-20%??) I like their chances versus Notre Dame or North Dakota. Abruzzese line is filthy. QPac - I feel like they're going to get absolutely slapped silly by Michigan. I might even pick St. Cloud.by RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros 2021-2022 - 3 years ago
Definitely good news for Morgan Barron. Stinks not being able to see him on the Rangers but the kid wouldn't play for a couple of years here. Average ice time of < 9 mins a game is tough unless you're just a plugger. He needs to play NHL games and real minutes to get into the game. Good luck too him.by RatushnyFan - Hockey

blackwidow RatushnyFan How about 4th liner Ross Mitton stealing the show? If it makes anyone feel better, he's a super nice kid and a really hard worker. True of many 4th liners I'm sure. My oldest son played U16 with him. Does your oldest son play D1 hockey, if you dont mind me asking?D1 club. He had D3 interest but would have had to grind it out in juniors to get to D1. Didn't want playby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 3 years ago
Trotsky At least you'll outnumber the Harvard contingent.I checked out some of their games during the Cornell itermission as my sons played with or against 5 kids on their roster. Stunning to see so few turn out for a home playoff game. That's depressing!by RatushnyFan - Hockey

Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 3 years ago
It's all good. To be honest, it is so competitive, it's mostly about finding the right fit. All of these kids, including mine, have been skating since they were 2 and on the ice 200+ times a year since they were 7 or 8. Coaches are looking for specific needs. If Cornell already has a couple of 6'3" 200 pound defenseman already on the roster who they would rank ahead of my son, they moveby RatushnyFan - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 3 years ago
You've got the right team and the right kid. My son is a great hockey player. Ironically he is seeing some interest from two other ECAC teams but no commitments yet. He'll be playing juniors next year, not 100% sure yet. Cornell would definitely be on the wish list but we haven't heard from them. Dan Ratushny was my favorite player by far. My son has a similar game. Good offensive defensemby RatushnyFan - Hockey

I have an apartment in NYC about a block from The Canuck. I've gone a couple of times. Nice place, hockey all over the place. Good poutines. Caesar has too much BBQ sauce. I did not know it was Ladouceur's joint, I will probably head there tonight to see if he's there!by RatushnyFan - Hockey
