Re: Lake Placid roll call - food, drink, lodging - 2 years ago
Jim Hyla BearLover I’m rooting for Q so only one ECAC team makes the NCAAs. Never rooting for Clarkson again after 2018-19 ECAC Championship game. Maybe it's a sign of the times, but I was upset that Coach Vaughan did not come over to shake Coach Syer's hand after the game Sunday. I believe it was also Casey Jones who just walked off Lynah without a shake this year. Don't know why,but it ceby CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: Gary Bettman Visiting Cornell - 16 years ago
Bettman didn't drive expansion; he was hired by the owners to implement it. They saw the NBA model and wanted to duplicate it, so naturally they hired Stern's heir. The failure to capture significant long-term nationwide media dollars was the biggest reason for the economic problems that the league faced. How many of the expansion/relocated teams could be considered failures? San Jose has frby CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: Is it October yet? - 16 years ago
TrotskyI'd say the difference between this year's team being contender for a bye and a contender for an NCAA at large bid is goaltending. Davenport/Scrivens seem like D'Alessio/Crozier. If one of them can have a breakout year, then we're talkin.' The difference is that D'Alessio started out as a stud goaltender his first year and most of his second. Re: Retired Number - 17 years ago
Usually, you retire a player's number for what he or she accomplished while in the uniform. If that's the basis here, there are a number of other players who had outstanding careers at Cornell who would warrant the same honor. I assume it's being done to capitalize on the recruiting value (Joe is a lot better known to recruits than Dryden, let alone Nethery, Tredway, Tufford, Ferguson, Lodboa eby CUlater 89 - Hockey
Re: Joe Nieuwendyk Retires - 17 years ago
Beeeej People who attend Cornell are considered members of the class with which they entered unless they request reaffiliation with another class. This is true whether or not they finish their degrees. So referring to him as "Joe Nieuwendyk '88" implies nothing about the status of his degree. Re: Time to root for ECAC/IVY - 18 years ago
BeeeejI absolutely cannot bring myself to root for Sucks - especially when their inexplicable, cavalier attitude over on USCHO seems to be "If we can't win it all, we'd rather not win any games at all." If they happen to win two rounds, and so does Cornell, and we get to play them in the semifinal in Milwaukee, I will be absolutely ecstatic, especially as it will piss off all the westeby CUlater 89 - Hockey

calgARI '07I think he is the next head coach. Why do you think that? What time frame are you thinking it will happen? What makes you think he's interested in taking on a new job, involving travel, while he has young kids? Why would Cornell hand the reins of what has become a top national program to an inexperienced coach (albeit one who will create a nice headline), when there are others who aby CUlater 89 - Hockey

Re: XX Olympic Games - Curling TV Schedule - 18 years ago
billhowardThe Olympics can hook you on sports you don't think much about otherwise. Curling is one sport where HDTV isn't necessary to see the puck/ball/object-in-play. As in 2002, I think much of the appeal is due to the "Dons" doing the announcing. Their enjoyment of the sport comes through clearly on the telecasts.
