Re: Harvard 4, Cornell 3, Final - 13 years ago
ithacat The only things that should ever be allowed to be thrown on the ice should be hats and teddy bears. Why the exceptionalism for hats and teddy bears? Hats come during game play and can be just as disruptive. Are you implying that it is traditional so then it's okay? Then is it also okay for an entire generation of future Cornell fans to not have the opportunity to hurl fish at tby Tom Tone - Hockey
Re: Harvard 4, Cornell 3, Final - 13 years ago
BigRedHockeyFan If you are as sick of the fish ordeal as I am, contact the athletics department and tell them that Mike should denounce fish throwing. I find this kind of action and calls for the end of the fish quite short-sighted. If you want Lynah to not be forgotten on lists by the WSJ about the atmosphere, you can't start attacking what makes our barn unique. The last time the teamby Tom Tone - Hockey
Re: Cornell Lacrosse Saturday May 1: We're IN - 13 years ago
Doubt you'll get that many of the casual student fans considering it costs 10$ for a ticket to all three games or 8$ for just Friday. This is an Ivy League event, with ticket prices determined by the league, so your Big Red Sports Pass is NOT valid for admission. We encourage you to come out and support the Cornell Big Red in this highly anticipated rematch with Brown on our home turf! Sby Tom Tone - Other Sports
Re: Why the hate/dislike of Cornell? - 14 years ago
Dpperk29 HeafDog We earned the victory, and we earned the right to celebrate. Not trying to start anything (but it probably will). But what exactly did you (meaning the cornell fans as a whole) to ensure victory? Sure you supported the team, and you yelled really loud. I would hardly say that those things entitle you to say that you "earned the victory" is stretching the truth jusby Tom Tone - Hockey

Re: Rebecca Johnston - Cornell Hero - 14 years ago
It's pretty silly that anyone cares about this at all and that people are making such a big deal about it. The celebration is well deserved especially in a sport where the pinnacle prize is only handed out every 4 years. Re: Student attendance off all sports, all colleges? - 14 years ago
CUontheslopes I agree with your all your points. I particularly hate that the CU Athletic Dept is so stupid as to have hockey and basketball games at the same time so many weekends. Do what bigger colleges do - move one game up, one game back. Play hockey at 530 and basketball at 8 or some variation thereof. God forbid we we play a Sunday afternoon game when we could put our two biggest winter spby Tom Tone - Other Sports

If my math is correct, tonight is also the de facto Ivy Title match. Yale wins and they get the title. Cornell wins and we still need a sweep against H and D to ensure a piece of the title.by Tom Tone - Hockey
Re: Cornell Swimming - 14 years ago
Cornell has always been woeful for the non-student-athlete. 3 public basketball courts (1 on west and 2 on north), 3 tennis courts (all on north and gym classes always have preference), no open green space that can't be reserved by a club team or event. My biggest issue is that even if Cornell has the space, either club teams or athletics (NCAA or P.E.) use any of the space that might be left (i.by Tom Tone - Other Sports

I also found it pretty tasteless that BU thanked the Terrier Pep Band but Cornell was more into the hotel they stayed at. Also, I'm not even sure they still do Freshmen/Seniors on the field anymore.by Tom Tone - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 Yale 4 (Final) - 14 years ago
The band stayed home because the cost of staying home is far less than a bus for 2 days, hotel rooms, and extra tickets at Yale and Brown. Also, for many of them, this is their last home game after 4 years with the band. It's a lot less about what the football team does on the field than what the band does.by Tom Tone - Hockey

Re: intramural hockey gone :( - 14 years ago
Unfortunately, this pattern of behavior seems to be one of the few things from which we can't protect today's students, whom society tries to protect from just about everything: college life gets lamer and lamer over time, things that were fun or distinctive disappear because of concerns over "safety," worries about litigation, or a screwed up sense of what matters, and they, havinby Tom Tone - Other Sports
Andy Noel strikes again... - 15 years ago
No, not really. But honestly, aren't any traditions sacred? The annual Dragon Day parade, a rite of spring at Cornell, returns March 13, but with a major difference. Instead of the dragon disappearing in an orgy of flames and smoke on the Arts Quad, a facsimile of the beast -- free of noxious paint, glue and other materials -- will go up in smoke while the actual, student-built dragon sits onby Tom Tone - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
The point is that Townie suggest that the AD's performance can be measured by the number of aggregate titles we have won. I imagine that it would be easier to win an Ivy title in a sport where only 6 or 7 of the 8 compete and thus not a good measure of how successful an AD.by Tom Tone - Hockey

Townie"By creating this policy for their event, isn't Athletics simply saying this is one of those times when it is inappropriate to use it?" I'm offended by the word 'god'. I'm not inclined to use it around my parents or my boss. How many other people do I need to be offended by the word 'god' do I need in order to get people ejected for singing O' Canada? Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
mnagowski Last time I checked the PE department offered numerous courses for free, most of the Ivies levy a student activity fee, Penn charges their students for basketball tickets (the only comparable Ivy sporting experience) despite the fact that the Palestra is rarely at capacity, and if everybody was given "free" access to the fitness centers tuition would simply just go up in kind.by Tom Tone - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
TownieThese don't happen by magic. Someone needs to work to make it happen. Be fair, give credit where it's due, and give someone the benefit of the doubt in the absence of ALL the facts. While all these behind-the-scenes facts might be known by a select few, the image presented by the athletics department to the non-student athlete is poor.
