Re: Video quality - Cornell-Syracuse lacrosse - 16 years ago
cmobergSomeone joked that we should get students from IC to do it. Seriously, there might be some merit in that. Seriously. Ever check out the quality of The Ithacan's website? They even have pretty decent coverage of the bigger Cornell sporting events.by mnagowski - Other Sports

Re: Old Cornell Football Story - 16 years ago
"Tin horns and whistles were frozen, but the Cornell yell was a hair-raiser." I would love to know what the Cornell yell actually sounded like back in the day. I wrote a little bit about it last year, but still have yet to actually get a sense for what the cheer would actually sound like.by mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: [LAX] Cornell-Harvard at Gillette Stadium - 16 years ago
Hillel HoffmannHarvard's program has a lot of Cornell connections. I knew about Tillman, but I didn't know that Harvard captain Scholl was a Cornell legacy until I read this morning's piece in the Crimson: Wish I could be there. So who do you think Scholl's father and grandfather will be rooting for? If I were them, I would be hoping that Scholl plays heroically, but that the Big Red areby mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: [LAX] Cornell-Harvard at Gillette Stadium - 16 years ago
RichHAl DeFlorioCornell-Harvard lax will be on CN8 in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and "Cablevision homes"--whatever that means. Asterisk says "subject to change. It's also listed for the New England flavor of CN8. Will it be streamed on the Internet a la the Penn basketball game?by mnagowski - Other Sports

I think that's the only way Cornell would have lost interest in Watt. Glad to know the admissions office is still playing by the rules.by mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse Polls 3/31 - 16 years ago
Al DeFlorioAnd here are all the lacrosse polls and rankings you could possibly imagine: Cornell still holding on at #1 in the Wobus RPI calculation. Have to love how the Big Red have the largest standard deviation in the top ten composite scores.by mnagowski - Other Sports

I love the first of April. Not only have I pulled like four different jokes on people today, but then I come here and get fooled by this one. The funny thing is that I was actually coming here to pull off a different stunt, but Josh already beat me to it.by mnagowski - Hockey

Beyond that, Cornell hasn't even released their financial aid decisions yet. So he would have no way of knowing how much need-based financial aid he would receive. Or maybe his family is just well-off and he knows he won't receive any need-based financial aid.by mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: Root for small colleges that do well, annoy the NCAA - 16 years ago
billhowardDavidson may fall into that category, too. (The website is still a bit unsettled by their hoops success: four home page tabs are Athletics | Academics | USA Today | Bookstore ... the third link being to some basketball stories.) I was interested in that very same question last night, and it turns out that Davidson is Division I in 21 sports, not just men's basketball. So that means oby mnagowski - Hockey

Jeomi's getting praises heaped upon her. Apparently she took public transportation from LaGuardia to the Dartmouth game at Columbia last week. Couldn't Alma Mater at least have payed for a cab for her?by mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: NCAA Wrestling thread - 16 years ago
I'm not completely up to speed on the scoring, and I'm certain that somebody could fill us all in much better, but I think the basic idea is that you get points for takedowns, escapes, and substantial "riding time". Leen's competitor knew that he couldn't win the match unless he tried to get an additional takedown, so he gave Leen the additional one point escape. The strategy didn't worby mnagowski - Other Sports
Women's Basketball Travel Woes - 16 years ago
There are some rather amusing tidbits on cornellbigred.com about the women's basketball teams travel woes: The Big Red checked into its hotel, but before heading out for a casual team meal at the Peppermill the team was informed that the bus would not start. Half the team loaded into cars driven by administrators, while six players and five staff members waited for a new bus to arrive at tby mnagowski - Other Sports
Re: MLax: Yale 7 Cornell 7 (OT) - 16 years ago
Al DeFlorioI guess this is a case where it's good that the selection/seeding criteria looks only at wins and losses, not how easily you won. 20-7 is no better than 8-7 in OT. And to think that this is the third win of that type this season. We could easily be 3-3 instead of 5-1.by mnagowski - Other Sports
