Re: CHAMPIONSHIP COUNTER - 16 years ago
That seems right. Our only future possible gains are men's and women's track and field, right? I think I counted five last year, but that would be excluding anything like men's crew. Then again, I might not know how to count. I just chatted with a volunteer coach for women's hockey. Apparently we have a lot of high quality girls coming in next year.by mnagowski - Other Sports

Re: Guest Editorial in Today's Sun - 16 years ago
Jim's right, as I believe the Friedman Center was paid entirely though alumni gifts. So when it's your money, you can pay for whatever you want, even an underwater basket weaving course taught at the bottom of Cayuga Lake. I do agree that the prices for students should not have gone up, and the 'townies' should have been 'taxed' instead. But I also think part of the reason the student ticket pby mnagowski - Hockey

Re: Guest Editorial in Today's Sun - 16 years ago
As far as I know, the current ultimate team is in the same situation today Don't the current ultimate and rugby teams use the University provided fields over on East Hill Plaza? And doesn't the ultimate team use Barton during the winter? That said, I don't know why they aren't allowed to be using the Jessup or Appel fields... they might always be reserved for intramurals these days.by mnagowski - Hockey

KenPJordan 04It's simply more fun for fans to make a road trip devoted to hockey when they are confident they will watch a victorious weekend, instead of wondering if they're going to put up a couple stinkers.Isn't that the definition of a bandwagon? Jacob '06Chris '03Jacob '06Chris '03It frustrates me that Noel's tenure will be remembered as a golden era for success on the field. And you don't think he has had anything to do with it being a golden era? I think a majority of the recent on-the-field accomplishments have been despite his work not because of it. Having zero inside knowledge, I find that hard to believe. Count me in too.by mnagowski - Hockey
Re: Guest Editorial in Today's Sun - 16 years ago
Good article. I'll try to blog about it tonight. But doesn't the Sun have some sort of ridiculous rule saying that you can't write for them if you are associated with any other campus publication?by mnagowski - Hockey

Re: Hobart Lacrosse to drop to Division III - 16 years ago
Hopefully we can at least scrimmage them every year. Or maybe squeeze them in as an early-season midweek game a la Binghamton without sacrificing a Division I opponent. (Does the Ivy League restrict the number of games we can play?) It would be an awful shame for the longest rivalry in collegiate lacrosse to just fade away into history.by mnagowski - Other Sports

Re: Lax poll 4/21 - Cornell falls to T8 - 16 years ago
Well, one of them was a slight insult to Myers, as I asked whether or not the graduation of McGonagle has affected the caliber of their shooting. The other was about their favorite poets, and what they thought of the poetry reading last night in honor of the CU Laxer that was killed in 9/11.by mnagowski - Other Sports

Jacob '06mnagowskiIf Cornell beats Brown and Brown beats Princeton, could there be three Ivies in the tournament? No...They'll do a coin toss to determine the autobid and I don't think the other 2 are going to have enough quality wins to get in. Is there a head-to-head comparison before they resort to the coin flip?by mnagowski - Other Sports

Cornell Lacrosse Alum Paletta Wins Oprah's Big Give - 16 years ago
Thought some would find this interesting. Platetta seems like a class act. Re: Cornell 7 Princeton 11 Final - 16 years ago
Sigh. I wasn't able to watch or listen to the game, but I can't say the loss is completely unexpected, given the effort that was seen during the last three games. I'm a bit worried about the Brown game as well. I mentioned this a couple threads back, and I think billhoward thought I was joking. I was at the game in Providence last year, and I felt that the Brunos were able to hang with a numbby mnagowski - Other Sports

RichHWe also ran into Cornell people all weekend who don't read/lurk here regularly. On my way to the Final, I passed by a guy in a Cornell shirt who shouted "Hey! I thought I was the only one here!"
