Re: Schafer's salary - 2 years ago
mas1969 Not directly hockey related, but Rob Koll just left after spending 32 years building Cornell's wrestling program into a national power, leaving for Stanford. Cannot help but think the Ivy League's inaction over the past year helped guide his decision. Wonder if there will be others... CU2007 “College hockey continues to go through a tumultuous period, with Alaska-Anchorage and Alabama-Huntsville also on the chopping block. UAA is trying to raise enough funds to continue, but hasn't yet. UAH recently suspended operations pending the ability to find a conference. dbilmes UConn just broke ground on a fancy new on-campus hockey rink, and also gave its coach a new contract. As reported in the Connecticut Post: "Hockey coach Mike Cavanaugh also received a contract extension that began in April, 2021, and runs through April, 2026, with a starting salary of $360,000, which will increase each season for a total package of $1.9 million, plus performance inceby Beeeej - Hockey

Re: Coach Joins Twitter - 2 years ago
billhoward It's possible Mike had a great uncle who waited until 1980 to declare color TV wasn't a fad. The only reason my Dad ever agreed to get an answering machine was that Mom started a job search. We used to joke that he would finally get email the day after the rest of the world developed mental telepathy. He has email now, and at 81 has finally relented and carries a non-smartphone cellby Beeeej - Hockey

In fact, it is possible that the Ivy presidents allow an earlier start to fall team practice to provide additional preparation time given the loss of fall sby Beeeej - Hockey

Trotsky ugarte There is going to be an Ivy season next year. Sports around the country was janky but by and large they made it work. I think the Ivies did the right thing but by next year there will be very limited appetite for opting out of everything again. I don't know if that's good or bad but it's what it will be.Depends what happens. If we get smarter and maintain lockdown and masks and soby Beeeej - Hockey

Trotsky scoop85 Trotsky I know we are basically acting like the ECAC isn't having a season this year and, frankly, good, but I thought I'd note that Q kicked the absolute living shit outta Gate a few nights ago, 9-zip. Which was odd because the day before the teams played to a 2-2 tie (Q won the shoot out) in a game I thought Colgate had the edge. Want to hear something funny? I dby Beeeej - Hockey

French Rage Any chance the @ASU weekend will still be there? Hard to think of it as "still" - it's not like they took the 2020-21 schedule and just slapped "2021-22" on it. You'd have to have the same teams interested in and available for participating in the tournament. Re: Coaching endowments - 3 years ago
Weder I noticed that at some point since the end of last season Doug Derraugh became the Everett Family Head Coach of Women's Hockey. Are those endowments supposed to cover a portion or all of the coach's salary, or does it vary from endowment to endowment? Mike Schafer's position has been endowed for some time now, I believe. Re: Greatest Game? - 3 years ago
osorojo What was the best Cornell Men's Varsity Ice Hockey game you ever attended? If we're limiting it to in-person attendance, it's a close call. The 2003 ECAC championship game against Hahvahd is up there, but has been soured for me somewhat by intervening circumstances. Re: Grad transfers - 3 years ago
Dafatone Is there any reason for allowing grad transfers to play in new locations but not their undergrad school? The Ivies don't give you the same five-year span to use your four years of eligibility; you have to use them in your first four unless one's a medical redshirt, and even those are rare exceptions for which you have to apply.by Beeeej - Hockey
