Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: What has to happen for Cornell to end up in Ann Arbor as opposed to Worcester? - 22 years ago
The USCHO article Greg is referring to is probably the tournament selection FAQ, but this was written before the whole reduced travel issue came up. You may want to look at which includes a dry run with this rule in effect. If they really are minimizing travel, I can't see how we would get shipped out West, since for anyone to be shipped there would need to be five non-bye Eastern teams, butby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Wow, that was unbelievable - 22 years ago
Can I just say I hate the cabin crew of Continental Flight 1771? I managed to see 3+ quarters of the game, up to the pivotal holding penalty, at a bar in the Houston airport, then saw the Rams pull to within 17-10 on my way to the gate, about 20 minutes before flight time. Then they made me get on the plane and refused to honor my request not to announce the score. Apparently others had askedby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: SB's are usually routs. - 22 years ago
As I recall, the Rams were expected to roll over Tampa Bay, and what impressed me was that the Bucs took the Rams out of their game (which was in the style of the old Chargers teams of whom it was once said "the only way they can win is by scoring more points than the other team) and the Rams still managed to win. But you're right, I'd forgotten about the loss to the Titans. I was in Switzby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Mazzoleni on Harvard's rivals - 22 years ago
I seem to have totally missed out on this storied Harvard-Yale hockey rivalry. I've occasionally heard people mention that there is one, but I don't ever recall hearing of a legendary Havard-Yale game or how pumped fans of either school were to be facing their arch rival. (And remember which team Erich Segal used as the Crimson's nemesis in _Love_Story_.) Maybe I should watch my tape of the Haby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Road and weather - 22 years ago
We got lucky with the weather, as it turned out. The biggest worry was that the high winds might blow us off the road. It was snowing in Ithaca about an hour ago, but (goes over to the window to check) it's settled down to flurries. There seems to be a dusting on the non-paved ground.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Great cheer from last night - 22 years ago
"GRADE IN-FLA-TION" (clap clap clapclapclap) Started in D if I'm not mistaken.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: NEW CHEER? - 22 years ago
Okay, if "Check his pants" catches on but "Aufs, jetzt, Knöpfli, schiess ein Tor" doesn't, I will be very disappointed with the intellectual level of the Faithful.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Pep Band Requests - 22 years ago
Are there plans to get the Imperial March, which didn't make it onto the last CD? Also, we had a "Hey Bâby", but no Austin Powers. I wonder how much of last night's energy will show up in audio. (Will Adam Wodon--whom I finally met last night--be immortalized in the radio call?)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
non-hat trick - 22 years ago
Actually, Sam was one of the few people in the rink that knew it wasn't a hat trick, since he had just skated over to the scorer's table to tell them the fifth goal wasn't his. Unfortunately Arthur didn't have a chance to announce it before Sam scored again, and I'm out a crappy CafePress "Harvard Sucks" hat.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Harvard v. Cornell - 22 years ago
Presumably you mean the conduct that inspired Schafer to tell people to stop was uncool, rather than his doing it, right? I liked the announcement in the second intermission that the players would like the fans not to hurt their team by throwing anything on the ice. I think such an announcement in the first intermission would have the best chance of heading off the second period idiot penalty.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Penalties - 22 years ago
I think what happened was that Kotyra decided to even things up by giving all ten skaters on the ice 2+10, but forgot that there were only supposed to be 8 skaters on the ice at the time. Here's basically what happened from my perspective/memory and the accounts of those around me in C: a crowd of Harvard players surrounded Paolini and started to disrobe him; in the ensuing scuffle, someone wentby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: SB's are usually routs. - 22 years ago
I hate to have to root for a rout, but given that I have to get on a plane from Houston to Brownsville at 8:50pm CST, I find myself hoping the Rams have buried the Pats by then. (Either that or I need to ask the pilot not to announce the score so I can run home and watch the tape of the fourth quarter once I get to Brownsville.) But lest we forget, the Rams were expected to whallop the Titans tby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: road conditions - 22 years ago
So, according to the forecast I've seen on Yahoo, the prognosis for tomorrow has actually improved over the course of the day. Currently it's supposed to turn over from sleet to rain overnight, and tomorrow's high will be around 49F. (Oh wait, now I see Syracuse says tomorrow rain early then turning to mixed rain and snow showers by the afternoon.)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Weather Forecast - 22 years ago
Yahoo/Weather.com are predicting heavy snow for tomorrow (Thursday), with accumulations up to 12 inches in some areas. For Friday they say a mix of snow and rain. Speaking as someone who could not get into Syracuse earlier than 4:40pm on Friday, can I just say "Oh crap!"?by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Brown game - 22 years ago
Cornell managed not to suffer a letdown against SLU after the Clarkson game; in general, I think we're better off having the "big" game first, since the worries of looking past the "little" game are more substantial than the present letdown concernsby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Of course, the clever title for my email would have been "gnomes and <em>elves</em>". Ah well.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Boston to Ithaca - 22 years ago
Huh. Mapquest does give the right directions (as does Yahoo). Of course, Mapquest's directions do say "BINGHAMPTON"by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Boston to Ithaca - 22 years ago
The standard way I know is: Mass Pike/NY Thruway (I-90/87/90) to Schenectady I-88 from Schenectady through Oneonta to Bainbridge 206 from Bainbridge to Whitney Point 79 from Whitney Point to Ithaca 206 and 79 might be sketchy in bad weather, in which case you might want to fall back on the official directions which probably tell you to go via Syracuse.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

After all, only those who were there for warmups in November '97 got the "Hey JR, let's get Wicked tonight!" cheer.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
What's a Harvard fan? - 22 years ago
I think they wear T-shirts that say "Crimson Crazies". All three of them.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Now, you see, that sort of rhetoric is how web design holy wars get started. I could counter that if you write for the spec and not the browser, the number of hoops through which you have to jump is greatly reduced, and mention lynx, Mozilla for GNU/Linux, Konqueror, Opera, etc. But then I'd really just be venting my frustrations at secretaries who ask me to send them a word document because thby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Can't say I care for the fixed width fonts in the messages (incidentally, you should add "monospace" to the end of the font-family list for .PhorumMessage). Presumably the one advantage of using them would be the chance for people to line up ASCII tables, but that still won't work, unless you enclose each message in a <PRE></PRE> (Stops to try it...)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
