Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell 3 St. Lawrence 2 (OT) postgame thread (not scores updates) - 19 years ago
props to Knoepfli for doing all the things that a captain should do, but again, big props to Iggulden for the assist, a vital setup for the GWG.by The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 St. Lawrence 2 (OT) postgame thread (not scores updates) - 19 years ago
not a good idea for cornell... they tend to play better down the longgest stretch, but fall off after breaks, eg: almost every year at the everblades. it would be good to get a little pt for chabot, but is totaly unlikely unless mckee is dead. he might sit out for the third if we are ahead by 4 goals or more.by The Rancor - Hockey

it would also save the lynah staff from having to clean up newspapers and flying fish by vaporizing them before they hit the ice, if it works in two directions.by The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Polls 2/14/05 - 19 years ago
yes. 4th is maybe a little high, but you gotta recognize the streak. plus, they are still doing everything they are supposed to be doing so how can you argue moving them up? maybe if Cornell was playing in the WCHA they would be scoring an extra goal or two a game against teams that are all O, no D. everyone knows the ECAC is stacked for goalkeepers and plays a more defensive style, thanks to aby The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Pairwise comparisons vs single ranking system - 19 years ago
PWR and KRACH are both good for determining seeding for the tournament but cant real show intangible elements of a team. an example being after months of play and practice Cornell is a way better team than they were in October, by virtue of playing the season together and having a low occurrence of injury etc. also, they are clicking, winning and 'on a roll' mental momentum is a big factor. Re: Praise for Iggulden - 19 years ago
another agreement. i remmber him blowing a game by droping out of pssition against Ohio State at Lynah and thinking "oh jeez, why is this guy here?" he's come all the way, what a great way to spend your senior year, and final season.by The Rancor - Hockey

Re: O'Byrne a Liability? - 19 years ago
Dan Glover anyone? geez he is a draft pick, and a gutsy hitter. we are deep on the blue line, and although 'Pokoluk-y charms' is great and all, but i don't worry too much about losing him for a couple weeks.by The Rancor - Hockey
Re: 2/5 cornell v 'gate postgame - 19 years ago
fantastic game. gotta give a lot of credit to silverthorn, he kept colgate in that game. best overtime without a win i've seen in a very long time. my new theory about the team is this: we will win against teams with strong offense, because our d is so freeking good. teams that focus more on defense, will be harder for us. meh.by The Rancor - Hockey

right, fans of the hockey team at a school famous for engineering, math, and science are going to give up statistical analysis of the sport. maby we can give it up for MLB tooby The Rancor - Hockey
Re: National TV Impressions - 19 years ago
its real bad on the other side of C. also, its the 'sucks' part of the cheer that is best heard, and its not, shal we say, positive cheer (like LGR) and it might do some to degrade the other team, but liitle to pump up ours. example: yelling 'blank-sucks' during the powerplay when our boys are trying to get the cycle going- not so great. where is 'kill topher kill?' and 'moulson's golden' 'weby The Rancor - Hockey
Re: National TV Impressions - 19 years ago
tom i completely agree. "blank- SUCKS!" is soooo over done. come on kids use your immagination. this seems like a good time to bring up the whole 'aaahhhh... see ya (asshole) you GOON!' not you LOSE, cheer. it realy bugs me. and i always try to educate the person who is next to me the correct cheer, plus a history of the term goon in hockey. have any of these kids seen Slap Shot (or yby The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Davenport Has Left the Team - 19 years ago
what about David Grossman (i think its his name)? who is the star goalie for the Ithaca High School team? he is attending Cornell and playing goalie for the lacrosse team next year, and he's a multi year starter at IHS, with great stats (coming soon when i can find some) he's at least a 2nd or third string guy, i'd guess.by The Rancor - Hockey

Lenny wins one against murry and the barrons... and murry scores his third of the year against lenny in game two a cleaveland win.by The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs Vermont Postgame Thread - 19 years ago
great game, though a bit more scoring would have been fun, it was a hard fought eavenly matched game that was not a shut out on a fluke goal, as last night was. Topher Scott... great weekend for him. 4 points, 1 g3a. that line is realy clicking. chris abbot, great hustle good to see him playing like a firecracker. i'd like to see a bit more out of bitz. looking good going into next week.by The Rancor - Hockey

billhoward Wrote: Al DeFlorio Wrote: Of the top sixteen teams in PWR, Hockey East and WCHA have five, ECAC four, and CCHA two. Not bad balance. Re: Davenport Has Left the Team - 19 years ago
what i ment to say was that he must be feeling at least confadent in his spot on the team as he hasnt left yet, and is now the #2 man again, where i think he should be. Its a one man campain that i've run for the last 2 years that depth wise, Louis Chabot is better than the 'faithfull' (faithless) will give him credit for.
