jtwcornell91RichHAs an engineer, we often made fun of the hotelies mainly out of jealousy because they were all out at the bars by Wednesday night and actually had more than 30% women. Who were the smart ones? Not to mention that they'd end up with more lucrative careers on average than the rest of us... Shut up SHUT UPby Lauren '06 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell 1 at Yale 3 (3rd period) - 15 years ago
TrotskySwampyCornell tends to recruit more from Canada than some of these other schools. And everyone in Canada knows Cornell gives athletic scholarships, eh. International exchange rates can shift a Canadian family's income. For example, today a family making CN$100K is making only US$77,229. I'm missing something. I would think the dollar being in the toilet would be good for recruiting fromby Lauren '06 - Hockey

Al DeFlorioRichHsah67Our four-point weekend over the Capital District squads is good enough for a one-spot bump from #11 to #10: Having 4 Ivies getting votes (and 3 in the top 11) would have been unthinkable early in the decade. I suspect it's still "unthinkable" to anyone from the world of western college hockey. Overheard at Engelstad: "Cornell's ranked pretty high."by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Pink Uniforms for Late February - 15 years ago
BeeeejA-19anyone have pics of what these looked like at the game? NO. ... but only because the film and/or SD cards melted from the onslaught, I suspect.by Lauren '06 - Hockey

RichHSection A BansheeSo, basically, my memory is terrible. I can accept that. It's gonna drive me nuts all week, though. Time to go MP3 hunting. "Solo in F" <> "Solo on F" Even though it still amuses me to do so. Today on eLynah: band geeks hijack the forum. Today? Yes, if Age hadn't already taken pity on me and passed along the MP3, "Solo on F" dby Lauren '06 - Hockey

Chris '03While we're (or at least you) are being crotchety, when's the last time "Star" was played? I feel like I haven't heard that in ages. Yikes, I don't even remember how "Star" goes anymore... which suggests we stopped playing it sometime in the midst of my four years. Or that my memory is terrible.by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
I would definitely encourage the use of "Blerg," preferably by the entire crowd.by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
fatchance72athletics is choosing to use the band as a tool ...and really, this is the part I object to. Whether Gary Glitter is important or not is immaterial compared to this.by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
fatchance72The band was informed of this situation the same time everyone else was. That is unfortunate. For Athletics to dangle the band as leverage, to put it in Tom's words, is a pretty dick thing to do without the band's consent (or even foreknowledge). I'd say it's a slight to the band that's worth an email of inquiry. Nothing pisses me off like the band being punished for the actions oby Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
RobbThe band doesn't have to agree - they play at the pleasure of the Athletic Department, so they will do what the AD says. Not agreeing might carry consequences, but that doesn't mean they have to agree. I'm more curious if they were contacted beforehand that this condition was made.by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
Um, was the band appraised of this "condition" before the email went out? Did they agree? And, as Jordan brought up, what exactly is to keep the entire student section from singing it (other than it falling apart from tempo problems)?by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women's Hockey - 15 years ago
TrotskyAnother thing about watching the last game. Not to put too fine a point on it, but a decade ago watching ECAC women's hockey in general and Cornell women's hockey in particular was about as exciting as watching people shovel a driveway. Now the players are far faster, more skilled, and more creative. It looks kind of like hockey (except for the tortured maneuvers the players have to goby Lauren '06 - Other Sports
Re: Niagara Game 1 Photos - 15 years ago
TrotskyimafrshmnI actually talked to Dave Nulle about the huggy bear logo. If I recall correctly, they did try to get it on there but had problems getting the paint to freeze on. It still sucks as a logo though. It looks a lot like something an AD's daughter, wife, girlfriend, or mistress would draw on a cocktail napkin. Presumably, when the budding artiste moves on, so will the cartoon. I'mby Lauren '06 - Hockey

Re: UMass-Amherst Roll Call - 15 years ago
ftyuvI don't have tickets, but I live over in Cambridge... this is tempting. I haven't seen a CU hockey game since the year after I graduated (erm, I guess I could have also said "last year". I probably won't go, though; a lot of the motivation for me would be getting some DP Dough (Amherst is the closest place that has it), but I'm making calzones tonight, so that urge won't be as stroby Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: St. Cloud postgame - 15 years ago
If someone has the time or the interest, I'd be interested in the percentages more than the raw data... I mean, how often does Cornell play more than one WCHA team in the regular season to begin with? That's going to keep the numbers way down.by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: Dec 8 Polls: Cornell is in the top 10 - 15 years ago
Al DeFlorioNot clear to me why a team that was beaten by Cornell and also lost to Mercyhurst (huh?) is ranked five places ahead of a Cornell team that's lost only to North Dakota. I'd almost rather Cornell stay under-ranked (if indeed they are). Keeps them under the radar, keeps expectations lower... at least in the minds of fans of other teams.by Lauren '06 - Hockey

ACMjtwcornell91 Yes, but which were twins? I know, but I don't want to deprive the rest of you of the fun of guessing. There are seven sets. Collect 'em all?by Lauren '06 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence 0 @ Cornell 1, 3rd Period - 15 years ago
mnagowskiHardly, but I always thought that cheer was reserved for games that weren't closely fought with a one goal differential between the teams. Man, now that reminds me of the ill-fated ECAC playoff series against Clarkson in 2004. We were leading them either 5-0 or 4-0 in game one, down to the last few minutes, and a guy down my row said: "Hey, you know which cheer we haven't gotteby Lauren '06 - Hockey

Re: Cornell football ambivalence - 15 years ago
No one has pointed out that the thread title mistook "ambivalence" for "apathy"? This is not the elynah I remember! I've never really cared about Cornell football, except in the sense that I enjoy football itself as entertainment. If the team goes 0-7 every year for the next century, I won't be particularly bothered--but if I'm in town, I'll be there to watch.by Lauren '06 - Other Sports
