Re: Frozen Four at Ford Field? - 19 years ago
Franklin Field could hold the crowd. It's not that. The stadia in Philly have been in that general area for at least 40 years and before that if you include JFK Stadium primarily because of access. They tried putting the new baseball stadium closer to downtown, but they realized they have to blow up something like 10 blocks of near-downtown AND build a whole new freeway to get people to iby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

"word" I understood. I didn't have time to look up "Tautology" but I suspected it meant redundant. Went for it anyway. Took a chance. Lost.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four at Ford Field? - 19 years ago
The other difference about the lax final four is goegraphy. Philly is the perfect location between the southern schools and the northern schools. And a lot more balanced than having it in College Park every year. But I'd love to see the FF in Philly.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: Air Force Joins Atlantic Hockey - 19 years ago
You would have to think that the Ivy League and the Big Ten would be perceived by the NCAA as existing conferences, even if their split as separate hockey conferences were new. At least that would be the rationalization of an instant autobid in the event of a split.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four at Ford Field? - 19 years ago
That would be great if they have it at the Wacko (though by the time the tourney rolls around, it will have gone through 3 bank name changes). I wouldn't even have to pay for a hotel room. And given the stupidity of the Ford Field idea, that's just one less competitor for Philly. It does imply that St. Paul is locked in, since they're the only western location on the list besides the stupidby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Air Force Joins Atlantic Hockey - 19 years ago
Mercyhurst would also be a decent match geographically for CHA. At this point, other than scholarships, what incentive is there to move to an apparently "sinking ship" for schools like Mercyhurst and Canisius? Frankly a better move for all would be a conference with Mercyhurst Wayne St. Robert Morris Canisius Niagara RIT Sort of a Great Lakes Conference. It would cerby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: Chances for next year - 19 years ago
That's usually not Schafer's m.o. He'll rein in the forwards to play D before opening up the offense. That said, I'm not especially worried about the blueline. We're returning 4 guys who skated regularly, and one who played half the games because of injuries to the others. That's 5 d-men who already know the system. If Mike skates a frosh at that last position, he'll probably be pairedby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

And as Mr. Cook noted, it also gets them a jump on paying off those ridiculous bills from our beloved Alma Mater. Best of luck to Charlie, Michael, and the rest. I, for one, hope to see Charlie playing in Philly, soon, and eventually with the orange and black.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
Re: Public yet private sounding - 19 years ago
I recently had a conversation about this same subject. The difference depends on where in the country you are. In the midwest, X State U is the land grant school and generally has an Agriculture School. U of X is also a state school, but not land-grant. Wisconsin being the exception, as I don't believe there is a Wisconsin State U. In the south, U of X was generally the white school. Xby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Check it out! Also note the "Player card" The Phantoms have four more home games in the regular season. Friday the 8th and 15th, and Sunday the 10th and 17th. The game on the 10th is "Frank Bialowas Bobble-head Night." No road games near Ithaca - unless Albany counts. I think I'll wait for the playoffs.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Rich, 1) Reread my post. Sucks is OK. In fact it's de reigeur. I said anything worse than sucks will get their attention. 2) While our ushers are oppressive, they usually have justification for their actions, whether the Faithful agree with it or not. What did the harrassed party do that brought on the harassment. Cheering for Clarkson is not good enough. They must have done somethingby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Re: Are we done? - 19 years ago
Given that up until '81 those were four team tournaments, I think it's a tribute to Ned (and his recruiting contacts) we went as frequently as we did. Now that we're dealing with 16 team tournaments, I think the probability we'll continue to go will be higher. It does mean maintaining a competitive program, but this year clearly showed that a third place ECAC team that plays a competitive outby Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey

Rich, our ushers have a profanity complex. If you used one word stronger than "sucks" they'd be all over your ass. I wouldn't completely rule out bias against someone in green and gold, but it's also possible that the Cornell fans in section O knew what the hot buttons were for the "Seating Nazis" and didn't push them.by Jeff Hopkins '82 - Hockey
