Re: Cornell lacrosse 2025 - polls 4/7 Cornell 1st - 3 months ago
Makes me think Cornell made a good decision to play Richmond. Wish we had Colgate back on the schedule and also Army. I think the Kaydets are likely to be top-twenty more years than not. (What happened to Navy???) Not playing Albany, Binghamton and Stony Brook looks good currently; I think Binghamton is least likely to rise up, too bad, I'd like to see another powerful NYS school within a 90-minuby billhoward - Other Sports

Cornell remains #1 in the media poll via Inside Lacrosse (the coaches poll arrives on Caribbean time). Big slips by Maryland and Notre Dame. Ohio State replaces the Terps at #2. Last week Maryland also got (5) first-place votes. This week Cornell gets all but 2. Are we that good? upprdeck Our Resume is good not great lose to Harv and then not win the Ivy makes the Syracuse game mean even more Beat Syracuse and have 3 losses we still get in Lose to Syr and then lose 2 ivy late and a 4 loss team is back on the bubble ... this sounds like hockey. Wyatt Knust needs to do an Ian Shane late-season metamorphosis and we're good. I still like the beat-Syracuse, beat-Harvaby billhoward - Other Sports

NCAA basketball 2025 - 3 months ago
Damn shame about the fine young players of Duke losing a late double digit lead to Houston and falling by three in the NCAA men's basketball semifinals. In the second half Houston didn't lead until the last 20 seconds. Nothing like allowing Houston an 11-1 run in just over a minute and a 7-0 run inside 15 seconds. Player of the year Cooper Flagg missed the go-ahead shot with 8 seconds left. Finalby billhoward - Other Sports

djk26 rss77 Credit also to Knust and Cornell's settled defense in 2nd half as the settled defense allowed only 1 goal. Brown's defense clogged things up and ground balls were pretty even. Cascadden also had a huge game. His presence is a big difference from last year. I can see into the future: Cornell recruits a 70% FOGO, we make it as far as the title game, then for his sophomore year the NCAAby billhoward - Other Sports

mike1960 We need to figure out how to kill the final seconds against the pulled goalie/trap defense. I had the same thought. Knowing we are 60% on faceoffs this day ... Go. To. The. Net. ~90% chance of going up by one more goal and then a good chance of getting the ensuing faceoff, that seems like good odds. When you run along the endline, you can only be attacked from one side, not two. Butby billhoward - Other Sports

Chousnake Can someone tell the announcers how to pronounce Cascadden's name. And let's scrap the close up weird angle on face-offs. Sports Illustrated, back when it was a real magazine, had a fab photo from the end zone, through the legs, of a faceoff, I think of the UMass long stick FOGO, IIRC, maybe the 2006 NCAA runner-up year. Perhaps this videographer was trying to create an artiste's view oby billhoward - Other Sports

CU2007 Nice shot on the telecast of some apparent Cornell moms sharing some airplane sized liquors in the stands after going up 12-9 lol #Slander I am sure this is a take-away from their Waffle House of Providence (there is one) breakfast before the game. The NCAA gotta give equal emphasis to goals per game average or goals per season average to be fair to old timey players who only got in three varsity seasons, to longer seasons versus fifty years ago, and maybe to recognize schools (Ivies) who play fewer games. Per Wiki, which has it both by season, with PPG, it is 3. Mike French '76, 6.30 PPG 4. Jim Trenz '74, 6.21 8. Tim Goldtein 'by billhoward - Other Sports

Albany 3-8 1 3 4 3 — 11 Cornell 8-1 7 5 3 3 — 18 Cornell 12-4 at the half suggests it's over so some slackening of output is understandable. OK, Albany can argue won the second half 7-6 and we can just say, "Scoreboard!" Nice to see 10 players score (balanced) including 6-0--6 for CJ Kirst and 1-5--6 for Michael Long. Sad ending for Cornell in OT. We made it through the previous seven games with skill unseen at midyear, and a bit of luck. Interesting that the final four D1 basketball teams are all 1-seeds. For hockey, the final four were seeded at: 1. Western Michigan 2. BU 3. Denver 4. Penn state ... four of the weekend's six games went to OT.by billhoward - Hockey

Dafatone Important to remember that hockey has a viable career path without making the NHL. European league players can make good money. Even the AHL (minor league just below the NHL) has a minimum salary of (I think) $75k. Dalton Bancroft is one of several players in the Johnson School. Meaning: He could also find a $75K job in the business world. He's a junior, only one more year to a dregree.by billhoward - Hockey

Ohio State 1 2 0 — 3 Boston U 0 3 5 — 8 Ohio State led 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in the second period. That was it for the Buckeyes, then BU got the game's last six goals. So much for an Ohio State hockey NCAA double. Two BU short-handed goals including an empty netter. Game 1 attendance in Toledo listed as 6907 of 8000 capacity. 617BigRed First goal gonna be huge Thursday, if we can score first like our chances to shut them down via tough team defense, if we get behind a goal or two most likely no way we can come back vs. their brickwall in net... rhovorka Just to update...I went to PSP last week, and was told that they would indeed have ECAC championship shirts for sale at Lynah this fall.
