Re: Ohio State @ Cornell lax 3/2 - 7 weeks ago
upprdeck I don't see anyway they play a game like yesterday inside. There were games all over this weekend played in much worse weather and far worse rain. 200 people in attendance. Temps in the 40s. Raining. Some Cornell players have experience in box lacrosse where it doesn't rain? If there's an indoor field available, why would you not play it there? ... because we might or might not fare betby billhoward - Other Sports
Re: Ohio State @ Cornell lax 3/2 - 7 weeks ago
Drizzly, cold (43 at 12 noon faceoff), thus only 212 fans. This is the kind of game that would benefit from being played in the pending field house. The offense is ahead of the defense. Saturday so much was CJ Kirst, an amazing 7G 1A day and Michael Long 3G 4A. Otherwise five players with single goals. There were no humanitarian awards for coaches or players back then. If I was a visiting coach and Harkness set -- and it couldn't be unset -- the heat to 85 degrees in the visitor locker room, I'd bring a fire axe the second year to improve ventilation, and for year three I'd bring a couple of fans the fire department uses to clear smoke. nshapiro billhoward * We've already got five of our 13 games against non-league teams this week rated top 20 – Denver, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Notre Dame – and four Ivy teams. No Southern teams, tho. Aren't Syracuse and ND Southern teams now? As Stanford, Cal and SMU are now 3, 3 and 1 time zones removed from the location implied by Atlantic Coast Conference. Nor did the Royal Palm, 1941-2012, keep anyone out for being too old. Always seemed to be a number of alumni/grad students who never wanted to leave and who never believed they'd go bald on top and have a gray ponytail before reaching 40. Why can't the National Register of Historic Places fight to keep alive one like-a-dive-bar bar in each college town? Has to be college related, so the Chantby billhoward - John Spencer Is Dead

Triple-header home action for three top-twenty Cornell teams: Men's Lacrosse hosts #20 Ohio State, 12 noon, Schoellkopf Field. (Temp 47, 35% chance of rain.) Also Women's Ice Hockey hosts game 2 of ECAC quarterfinals against Quinnipiac, 3 pm. And Men's Ice Hockey hosts RPI 7 pm, RS finale (the Friday game as pushed back to 7:30 but not Saturday) Let's see if Cornell can shake off thatby billhoward - Other Sports
Hobart-Cornell lax - 8 weeks ago
Cornell clobbered Hobart by 16 goals Tuesday (final, 23-7) and it got me to thinking, Why are we playing such a poor team, maybe we should schedule another top ten or top twenty team. There's a number of reasons why: * Hobart is good competition (most years), it's a day trip, it's midweek. * We do win more often: 20 of 23 times this century, all but 18 times going back to the Ned Harkness eby billhoward - Other Sports

jtwcornell91One time in my 30s I was nearly clotheslined by the bouncer at the Chapter House because it didn't occur to me that I would need to show my ID while strolling in the front door. There is a belief that some bars try to keep out people beyond their 20s, certainly their 30s, and they'll reject you for not having a license. Trotsky Scersk '97 Jeff Hopkins '82 FWIW, Dunbar's was very thorough about checking IDs when I was a student. Back when we had a more rational drinking age, I suspect a great many bars were much more thorough in checking IDs. Separating the high-school crowd from the college crowd makes sense; separating the college crowd from itself never really has. Re: Cornell's Sprint Football HC stepping down - 2 months ago
There's a lot of love for 150 Football, especially among lightweight-football alumni. The action is fabulous. Pound for pound, they put on a better show. The average 21-year-old male weighs 198 pounds, so this is an attainable sport. If you have to weigh in at 178 now for sprint football, your off-season weight could be the 198 average and you could weigh 185, 190, between games. If there's cby billhoward - Other Sports
Re: New athletic director Nicki Moore - 2 months ago
I believed in two career paths for Nicki Moore: * Here at Cornell for 5 years and then on to something SEC, Big Ten big. Every university needs to have a female head athletic director now or within the next decade and Moore appears to have the skills to be an AD just about anywhere. With only a handful of SEC / Big Ten good-old-boy alumni griping it was gender that got her the job. P * Here atby billhoward - Other Sports

semsox The women's team is currently playing Cal at Schoellkopf, and from the looks of things, the field conditions are definitely going to play a role in the game. What a nice game: * For Cornell and RPI to be close then Cornell break it open toward the end * To close the gap vs. Quinnipiac in the ECACs; we made up 3 points with a C win and Q loss. Still, tough for Cornell to win the ECAC RS title. Now Q 38 points, Cornell 30. * To open the gap vs. third place Colgate, now Cornell 30, Colgate 27. Cripe, there have been Cornell fans at every away game. The most amazing was at Arizona State. The ASU fans kind of sat and watched, didn't interact all that much with the game, and also misunderstood that opposing fans might be, ah, snarky.
