Re: Lynah East Postmortem (slightly OT) - 19 years ago
The unofficial eLynah pager service I used - thank you Adam - was speedy, accurate, and passionate in reporting the Harvard penalties and the near scoring opportunities. If eLynah was non-profit charity, maybe I'd mention it in my will.by billhoward - Hockey

And NJ will not issue you an ID card in addition to your driver's license; the idea being that you should leave your license in your wallet at all times and use the ID for things like airlines and bars ... because if you get toby billhoward - Hockey
Re: 1/28 - Cornell vs. Clarkson Cornell Alumni Happy Hour in NYC - Park Avenue Country Club - 19 years ago
Park Avenue Country Club is nice, large (but segmented) so there's lots to do if you show up early. If you take the Lexington Ave. local, get off at 28th Street.by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Cornell/Harvard on Sirius - 19 years ago
My recollection is Sirius or XM, sorry I can't remember which, would let nonsubscribers stream 20 mins via the Web and then get cut off, and I think you can then reconnect. Try that, too. Or just fork over the five bucks for the Cornell broadcast.by billhoward - Hockey
Need game updates (Harvard) - 19 years ago
If some kind soul could send me game updates, that would be much appreciated. I can't be by the PC except maybe the first period, if that. Send me a private msg if you can. Many thanks!by billhoward - Hockey

Re: 1985-86 Cornell Hockey Poster - 19 years ago
Never even got the initial $15 minimum bid, alas. It looks like a cookie cutter poster: Team name top, team schedule bottom, in the middle a picture of a Dryden-era goalie mask leaning on a bottle of Budweiser (not Molson?).by billhoward - Hockey
Re: Attendance figures lie? - 19 years ago
That was tongue in cheek. I'm annoyed the Ivy presidents discriminate against the schools' football teams by disallowing their football teams' - and only those teams, I believe - participation in postseason games. I don't believe you can find any logic supporting no postseason for football-only - gridders need to pay more attention to academics than soccer or basketball players:? Re: Yanks acquire Big Unit; sucks to be a Sox fan right now - 19 years ago
Tough to be a Sox fan? Sox fans have low expectations. Actually high-level low expectations, meaning we ask only that our hearts be broken in dramatic fashion, for instance by a ground ball going through Bill Buckner's legs ... not by finishing 24-1/2 games out. So in a year in which the team became the first ever to come back from a 3-0 playoff deficit and then proceed to roll off eight straightby billhoward - Hockey

Marty's suggested redirection to goldenshowers--correction, goldenknightshockey.com is thoughtful and nicely in keeping with the holiday spirit. Was there a chance she mistyped her username and it's really SLUMarina? Maybe the name resolves to both.by billhoward - Hockey

Re: BC - 1 v. SCSU - 1 Championship Game - 19 years ago
Al, I don't recall seeing any ECAC standings nor any promos for the ECAC as a league, whereas there were multiple (the same one) promos for Hockey East hyping the million fans a year, all the pros, all the excitement. The standings for ECAC not being shown (at least during BC-Cornell and Cornell-Maine), I think that's the fault of the production team. The promo for Hockey East, I couldn't seeby billhoward - Hockey
Re: BC - 1 v. SCSU - 1 Championship Game - 19 years ago
You root for BC to beat SCSU because you'd rather lose to a team that's climbing back to #1 rather than a team dropping to 6, 7, or 8. In other words, even though it's quality wins that get measured, you're less stung by quality losses to really good teams. Plus BC is an eastern team. (One of the reasons the announcers seemed to be homers was maybe it was all those spots for Hockey East lby billhoward - Hockey
Cornell vs. Maine: happy? unhappy with outcome? - 19 years ago
4-3 win for Cornell over #15 Maine. So are we happy ... - killed 10 of 11 penalties - 3 power play goals in 4 tries - beat one of two top fifteen teams - came back from a heartbraking loss - finally won a game away from Lynah in 2004-05 ... or unhappy - can manage only one even-strength goal in the consolation - could've beaten two top fifteen teams - called for 22, 23, sometby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 vs. Maine 3 3rd Per, Consolation Game - 19 years ago
As we wind down to 3:00 left in the game and the Big Red up 4-3 despite what 11 penalties against Cornell, some dry humor from the announcers as McKee signals icing against Maine but no call: "This is just an educated opinion ... but Shafer is probably not too happy with that call."by billhoward - Hockey

So if Cornell kills off all but one of nine or ten power plays, we're looking really good in the stats department. But in the meantime it's nail-biting time. Tempting fate too many times.by billhoward - Hockey

Re: O'Byrne interview - 19 years ago
Y'all ever tried to interview an athlete? It's real hard to get a good discussion going. The athlete assumes the reporter is an idiot in some cases, and vice versa. Even if they have an ongoing relationship, if the athlete has any common sense, he's not going to say anything that gets him in trouble with the coach, or gives the other team ammunition, or makes it look like he wants to be promotedby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Cornell 2 vs. Maine 1 1st Per Consolation Game - 19 years ago
This would be a major, major game - No. 9 playing No. 10 heading into the midpoint of the season - if we can forget for a moment it's the consolation game neither team wanted to be playing. What other time this year do we get the chance to play to top ten teams back to back?by billhoward - Hockey
