The limitations to the program by the athletic dept are staggering..by upprdeck - Hockey

well sometime in the next 2-10 yrs we will have to find out what a diff coach can.. I doubt he will be here when he is 70 so the window is probably even smaller.by upprdeck - Hockey

It doesn't help to have almost the whole ECAC be pretty poor. Better play brings them up and that helps Cornell and brings down all the teams OC that they lost to. Its hard to have a 4-5-6 loss season no matter what teams you play.by upprdeck - Hockey

Even last yr a PWR of .5800 gets you 3rd and this yr its ninth.. Non of it matters until the end. Hard to know where it was last yr at this time.by upprdeck - Hockey

And doing it without much from the PP.. when we get to 3 goals we are 13-1 great except Quin is 18-1-1.by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Union, 2/10 - 3 months ago
Way too sloppy a 3rd period.. So many times we just needed to clear the zone and got too fancy and we had to scramble around to protect.by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 3 months ago
Another example of how the system plays out is Cornell vs Prov They dont play but they have played 6 games vs COP. Cornell 4-0-2 no losses. Prov 3-3 three losses and it means nothing Playing a harder schedule I get, but when you play past a certain number of COP and have a much higher result that should count for something.by upprdeck - Hockey

Maine blew a late lead and refused to stay out of the box in falling in OT. Merrimack helps keep UNH below us Omaha wins on IT over WMU to help a little Minn ST is now the only team over .500 in the CCHA. MSU the big game left tonightby upprdeck - Hockey

billhoward BearLover There are some YouTube videos with yours of college hockey facilities. For example, UMass, which provides its players 24-hour access to a rink and gym exclusive to the hockey team: Contrast with the Cornell men’s team, which shares its ice with the women’s team, figure skating team, club team, intramurals, and recreational skaters, and which has a couple exclusive bikes anby upprdeck - Hockey

BearLover upprdeck Quin up 8 on us.. we have a game in hand.. So we need to do our thing and get it to 5. We win and they lose to Clarkson and suddenly they are in reality 1 win ahead of us with 5 left for them. More importantly, Q losing to Clarkson means we are in striking distance of them in the PWR. In the ECAC, all that really matters is first round bye + not seeing Q until the final. Theby upprdeck - Hockey

in the CCHA if St thomas loses to Augustana they could end up in first play in the league and be under .500 Minn st is the only team really over .500 by more than a game.by upprdeck - Hockey

looking ahead. Prov and mass have multiple games vs Maine/BC/BU.. hope for the best there. St cloud/WMU play each other twice. Mich has one more with MSU and 2 with Minn. Every little loss helps Conn outshot Umaass tonight but couldnt pull that game out. Hope for the split tomorrow.by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ RPI, 2/9 - 3 months ago
the hockey gods have created enough chances that this would be a 4-5-6 goal win, but no.. we had a breakaway on every PK it seems. if you just watched a highlight of the Grade A chances you would think we had 7-8 goals.by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 3 months ago
Its just like the star ranking in college fball. Yeah you miss on the star rankings a decent amount.. But if one team has 20 4stars and one team has 3, you dont have be near as good as spotting the talent. You go 30% and you have 6 Ohio state players and the other team goes 100% still only has 3.. You do that over 2-3 years and now its 18 vs 9.. It just adds up. If both teams go at 50%by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Odds of winning 2024 NCAAs - 3 months ago
I guess the question would be where would a team be ranked with a great record in a bad league with a bad OC schedule. Does it capture who the best team is or who has played the best schedule and done mostly well. Say we had 7 more games against just avg teams and went 4-2 to 6-0. would our RPI be higher. Given the data you could compute it by creating a generic schedule. Say we played Canisby upprdeck - Hockey

if only cornell had a way to present maps of the campus over the years.. Someday someone will invent that ability I suppose.by upprdeck - John Spencer Is Dead

I was reading a book on Ty Cobb and there is a mention that in 1900-01 a pro baseball coach drove a car into into an unlit Cornell Swimming pool. Wonder where that would have been at the time if its true.by upprdeck - John Spencer Is Dead

No real reason why the ivies punish the sports teams in multiple sports. Fball/Hockey/lax play less and start later? Why does basketball play a pretty normal schedule? They also limit practice time during the week, which hurts as well.by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Odds of winning 2024 NCAAs - 3 months ago
So if players play less games does that mean they get a pay cut to play in the Ivys now?by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 3 months ago
mike1960 Colleges used the term "student athletes," esp. those generating massive wealth for schools, so that the colleges could avoid calling them employees. The colleges' rationale was that the "student athlete" received a more or less free education in scholarship in exchange for their play for the school. This was a fiction that benefitted schools with large athletic progrby upprdeck - Other Sports
Re: Men’s Basketball 23-24 - 3 months ago
if the players want to unionize and lose rights you can make it work.. But he is talking BBALL 2 million. The difference between the worst team in pro sports is far less the 300 in college basketball. Will the kids at Purdue that get 2 million be happy that the kids at Sw Shaneee state get 2 million? Could those low level teams even afford it?by upprdeck - Other Sports
Re: Odds of winning 2024 NCAAs - 3 months ago
Its baked into the formula for sure.. but is it really a thing? Why do pro sports teams get an advantage of home field? What does NCAA hockey do it for the most part until the get to the final 16? Is it a huge advantage for just a small one? What is cornells advantage at home vs away this year for example? Better teams teams probably do better home & away & neutral?by upprdeck - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 3 months ago
Cornell needs to work hard on the road this weekend Root for MSU/Maine sweeps and Umass to get nothing better than a split vs UConn. Really wild would be WMU splitting with Omaha Cornell potentially could move to 10th if all that happens.by upprdeck - Hockey
