Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ...he just wont go away! - 18 years ago
Actually, I dont recall the Rangers having any of those, well, not since they cut Lindros. Your sample size of games LaTulippe has played is rather small if you've seen him only against cornell. I saw him probaly 30 times in four years. Did the red ever have a player who whined? I said he needs to be more disciplined so as to avoid bad penalties but I would not call him a pussy. I think signing a quick, skilled skater like Jay makes a lot more sense than many of Sather's other moves in recent years.by Rich S - Hockey

Oh wow... As a Clarkson grad AND a lifelong Rangers fan...you're breaking my heart. I think Jay has the speed for the "new NHL" but perhaps not a solid enough game all around. We'll see. He should do well in the AHL but undoubtedly needs to play a more disciplined the pros at any level.by Rich S - Hockey

Re: what about - 19 years ago
the challenge of taking that "second rate" program to national prominence? Many respected, top notch coaches relish such a challenge. And to be extremely well-compensated for it? Something to consider. I believe a key in any high profile coach's decision will be a major upgrade in the facility at ND.by Rich S - Hockey

Just wondering...when did they last win the Ivy title?by Rich S - Hockey
Re: Schafer a candidate for Notre Dame vacancy? - 19 years ago
If he or any other big name coach seriously considers taking the ND job, he should get assurances that ND goes ahead with the supposed desire to build a new arena. The hockey facility is just a fieldhouse and a part of the Joyce Center that they "convert" to a hockey rink for games and is sub standard, especially for Notre Dame. I saw a decal on a car today showing a gnome-like Yankee figure pissing on the Red Sox "B" with the caption, of course..."Red Sox suck". Like we didn't know that already.by Rich S - Hockey

Re: Barry Melrose and Dave Taylor - 19 years ago
Melrose coached during Dave Taylor's last year as a player (2003-04). Not sure when Barry's last year as coach was, that may have been it. He had taken them to the Cup finals the previous season. I'm quite sure Melrose did not coach during Taylor's time as the GM which began a few years after he retired as a player. IIRC, Melrose lives in the Capital District so that may account for his aby Rich S - Hockey
Re: OT: Puck handling - 19 years ago
Adam, I agree with most of what you said here but Eddie Giacomin handled the puck frequently and exceptionally well long before Billy Smith was around. Ther e were other puck handling goalies at the same time but Ed-DIE was easily the best of his era. In fact, other than Marty Brodeur, I can't think of anyone since who rivals him at the moment.by Rich S - Hockey

You sound skeptical about Clarkson returning to form. That's fine but I am confident. And no, I hope disco stays buried!by Rich S - Hockey
Re: New Recruits - 19 years ago
Al, I don't call those remarks "trashing" because they're in reference to or in response to comments demonstrating the looking-down-the-nose and hypocritical approach you and others take towards non-Ivy student athletes in the ECAC. Call it defensive if you like. You would do well to ask yourself those same questions you asked me. And why don't you respond to Goldie directly,by Rich S - Hockey
Re: First Yale-Prin fiasco and now this... - 21 years ago
Here's the Times slightly more detailed account. Well, the Ivies certainly dominated ECAC hockey this season but they seemingly can't quite get the admissions thing right. Imagine being one of those kids? Wouldn't you think they build in a technical control to stop an "acceptance" email from being sent to an individual who was "flagged" as rejected? Maybe now, that wiby Rich S - Hockey
Re: Mr. Morris goes to Vancouver - 21 years ago
Well, the "bad things" being said are mostly about the incident and far less about his coaching style. Those who didn't like his style apparently dont realize that there are many different successful styles, and likely know little about coaching. And it may be those are the ones still expecting to see a goalie change now....I think Parker changed goalies tonight. As one who was a goaby Rich S - Hockey
