Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: NC$$ games Friday 3/27/09 - 15 years ago
Foolish (if understandable) play by Kalemba with five seconds left, throwing the puck behind the net rather than hanging on for a faceoff. Unbelievable finish.by HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Yale ECAC championship postgame - 15 years ago
TrotskyCornell had the edge in play in the first; at times, by a lot. They had energy and got the benefit of some calls. Had they scored early, it would have been a different game. I think Albany reflects the quality of the league this year. Yale was the best team and Cornell the next best; Princeton and SLU are tied, close behind. Too bad the numbers didn't quite work for the Saints. Iby HockeyMan - Hockey
weekend recap - 15 years ago
A great comeback after Friday's shocker--even if last night's game got distressingly tight late in the third. Hats off to Barlow, who was flying out there on Sat and Sun (after a poor first game), and to the Nash bros. Greening was held off the scoresheet but was a beast again last night. Great work, too, by the third and fourth lines, keeping (a much improved) RPI bottled up for long stretchesby HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Cornell-RPI Postgame (Game 1) 3/13/09 - 15 years ago
GermAnother grinder of a game. Shots on goal were 32-14 and yet we lost 1-0? It's so painful. Thankfully we're not out of it yet. I know Schafer will tweak things to disrupt York. No way he stands on is head again. I know it's been said before but the bottom line is we just don't have the finishers needed to win these types of games on a consistent basis. Our D only gave up one goal lastby HockeyMan - Hockey

Schafer explodes at the refs. No doubt there's heat-of-the-moment frustration here, but he has a point. Dell in particular was terrible.by HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: RPI 1 @ Cornell 0 - Postgame game 1 ECAC quarters - 15 years ago
Wow, what a frustrating game. RPI showed nothing--really, they're a sadly mediocre team. Their PP is clocking at about 9 percent for the season, and we saw why tonight. We should be burying teams like this. No Schafer-coached team is ever going to be an offensive powerhouse, but geez, we've got to do better than this. York was good, but the truth is he did not have to make many phenomenalby HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Yale Postgame - 15 years ago
I listened to part of the game on the radio, but I'm keen to get a recap from someone who was there. It's clear to me from previous games that we're vulnerable against teams with speed. Was that a problem again tonight?by HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Princeton Post-game - 15 years ago
Painful result. But maybe in one respect not so shocking. Four goals in four games ain't gonna to get it done. Not late in the season and not later in the playoffs. You're too dependent on hot goaltending, too dependent on getting breaks. As was said on the game thread, we showed precious little up front down the stretch. I understand playing to protect a lead in the third (though one coby HockeyMan - Hockey

ansky629Actually, I watched RedCast last night and the slash was on there and it was pretty blatant. Right after the whistle blew, Leitch turned around and slashed the Cornell player (can't remember who - maybe R. Nash) right across the wrist(?). 2 refs were looking right at it, which made it seem strange that it was the assistant ref was the one who called it. However, it looked to me like soby HockeyMan - Hockey

ebilmesWhenever dpperk tries to come in here and talk about how great the atmosphere is at Cheel, I'll be happy to disagree. As Jim said, classless fans. Wouldn't have really noticed them if we didn't happen to be right next to the student section. They were loud at times, which is impressive considering there weren't any goals, but definitely a step below Lynah. And as for the language, sexual rby HockeyMan - Hockey

billhowardThis game doesn't deserve a postgame thread. On the contrary, I would like precisely such a thread after a night like this. Could someone who saw it give us at least a paragraph on what happened?by HockeyMan - Hockey

Re: Niagara Game 1 Post Game - 15 years ago
Jim Hyla]Jared Seminoff, Brendon Nash and Tyler Mugford were on the ice for all 68 seconds of a Niagara five-on-three, helping the Big Red hold on to its slim one-goal lead. I think that tells what coach thinks about Brendon Nash. I hope we can all look more closely now. B Nash gets huge ice time in PK situations, and at key moments late in games. And he should. CowbellGuyRichHHe's the closest thing we've had to Pokulok since Sasha's freshman year. Did you forget that the same people who complained about Sasha are the same ones that are complaining about Bnash? I've stopped trying. Not true; I didn't complain about Pokulok. I did not expect as much from him, for one thing--he was a freshman; B Nash is a junior.by HockeyMan - Hockey

RichH[ *sigh* It's his style. It always has been his style. He's a calm and measured long-striding skater with above average vision of the ice. I honestly don't know what you people want to see out of him...arms and legs flailing everywhere? Constantly gasping for breath? What exactly is irritating you? No, he's not perfect and has made more than his share of mistakes, but he's reallby HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Niagara Game 1 Post Game - 15 years ago
Good observations all. Meanwhile, the ho-hum approach of B. Nash for long stretches continues to puzzle and irritate in equal measure. I can't decide if he's unfocused, or thinks he's too good for these guys and can therefore be half-hearted, or both. I grant that appearances can deceive, and that tall players can seem less engaged/energetic than they really are, but that can't be the full expby HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Cornell 4 Western Ontario 3 - 15 years ago
Frustrating game, but what a finish by the brothers Nash! Refereeing was terrible--someone tell these guys they are not supposed to be the center of attention. A rash of penalties on both teams, some of them deserved, many of them not. As a result, not much flow to the game, though the Red looked better in the third. Good crowd atmosphere, I thought, given the non-stakes. The "your motheby HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: Season Post-Mortem - 16 years ago
ansky629HockeyManIt's astonishing to me that Schafer would have his team come out andtake so many undisciplined penalties in the first half of the game--and with the season on the line. Just astonishing. What did he say to them all week? What did he say--or, rather, not say--in the first intermission? I get what you're saying, but I highly doubt that Schafer didn't say anything to trying to limby HockeyMan - Hockey

Good points by metaezra. I'll add one point, pertaining to this game mostly but also qualifying under "Season Post-Mortem." Re: ECAC Semis, Pregame - 16 years ago
Defensive lapses cost us the home game against this team a few weeks ago; we'll have to be better tonight. Forwards will have to come back deep, and the d-men will have to play smart, heads-up hockey. Here I think especially of those whose decision-making is often suspect (read: Krantz, Devin, Davenport). Offensively, the usual cliches apply: PP will have to get pucks on the net, and we'll haby HockeyMan - Hockey
Re: 3/7/08: Dartmouth 2 Cornell 3 (Final) - 16 years ago
DisplacedCornelliancalgARI '07TrotskyThe memo called. It said, "we won." OK well they sure lacked intensity for a playoff game against a vastly inferior opponent. These guys are dreaming if they think they are going to just flick the 'on switch' for intensity next weekend. It was tied going into the third period tonight and they scored on a gift powerplay in the third period. Tby HockeyMan - Hockey
