Trotsky "Good hair! No hair!" I have a recollection, pretty sure it was from the 1985 ECAC Semis at the Gahden. We'd played in the first game, and Hahvahd and RPI were in the 2nd game. When the first of those teams skated out on the ice (Hahvahd?) , we started a chant with a point at their coach (Cleary?), "The coach is bald! The coach is bald". Then when RPI skated outby Chris H82 - Hockey

Dafatone Redpucks1! New Cornell commit! Winter Wallace of the Youngstown Phantoms. Big right winger (6’3” 215) who was previously committed to Michigan State. I assume he is coming in this fall. What a name. At that size, I think it's safe to assume he's not a Snowflake......by Chris H82 - Hockey

Even though this discussion about LP is in the Men's Hoops thread, I would think we may want to hold off on these kinds of discussions until after March 13. The woofing gods have a way of sneaking up on us.... Just sayin....by Chris H82 - Other Sports

And definitely better than F^2.... F'ing Fourth, as I heard some Canadian womens rowers describe it when hanging out with a rowing buddy who got a silver in LA in '84.by Chris H82 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
billhoward Al DeFlorio Interesting book coming, especially for us old guys who watched it happen: The closer game, arguably the de faco title game, was not the Cornell-Maryland final but the semifinal the week before at Army (now: Army West Point). Richard Nixon was on campus in the morning, unrelated to the game, but it was the same press pass that got sportswriters into the mainstream pressby Chris H82 - Other Sports
Re: Dartmouth Game - 2 years ago
Side note - did anyone else notice just how ugly Dartmouth's uniforms were? It seems we were playing against a bunch of guys in convict gear. Almost as ugly as the old Seattle Metropolitans jerseys from 100+ years ago (I'm sure the Kraken will wear something like that for a throwback night....)by Chris H82 - Hockey
Name / Image / Likeness & CU/Ivy - 2 years ago
(not sure if this is a topic for "Hockey" or "Other Sports", but I figure if any CU athlete is going to make any $ out of NIL, it'd be hockey, so I'm putting this here)v Reading an article about NIL this morning got me thinking - has the Ivy League or Cornell Athletics or any coaches made any announcements about this yet? The article talks about Syracuse hoops, so it soundsby Chris H82 - Hockey

Trotsky Todd RI grew up about 2 miles from that -35 degree sign. I assume that picture was taken in August. I'm in Montana these days, where it's similar to NoDak: I'll try to make it to GF if the pandemic recedes as hoped....by Chris H82 - Hockey
Re: Opponent News 19-20 - 3 years ago
The new Seattle NHL team is lending a hand to the UAA program, There's a mention of possibly hosting a 4 team tournament in Seattle - the 2 Alaska teams and 2 others. Wonder if this could be a possibility for us, given the demise of the Florida tournament. I know we recruit a lot in BC.....by Chris H82 - Hockey
Re: Greatest Game? - 3 years ago
For games I saw, yeah, the 1986 Final. Circumstances made it even better. I'd flown back east to Burlington VT on Friday for a former co-worker's wedding on Saturday, planning to catch up with another co-worker (a Clarkson grad). When we saw the semi results on Saturday morning, we started scheming excuses to leave early (it was a dry reception, anyway) and make it to Boston for the final. Thby Chris H82 - Hockey

"Beartown" quote - 3 years ago
Came across an interesting hockey book (fiction) while strolling the neighborhood. Title is "Beartown", written in 2016 by Fredrik Backman. The premise is a small (Swedish) town's love for their youth hockey team, and how over the edge that "love" can go when a player commits an act of sexual violence. Before that violence and the reactions, though, there's a bit of dialoby Chris H82 - Hockey
Re: Future Frozen Four Sites Announced - 3 years ago
I'm hoping that, with the Kraken being an NHL team as of the 2021 season, we'll get a Frozen Four in Seattle one of these years. Per this list, looks like it won't be for a while.by Chris H82 - Hockey

I've gotta plead ignorance to the "You're not Dave" cheer - assuming it's a zamboni reference. Can someone fill me in?by Chris H82 - Hockey

Re: Fortress Invitational - 4 years ago
They played a winter break tourney at least once in Vancouver BC, I think in the 90s. That's about 400 miles further than Vegas. I'm hoping that the new NHL team coming into Seattle sponsors a tourney like this and invites us to play. 20 minute bus ride for me.by Chris H82 - Hockey

If you want to get a feel for the atmosphere around the IRA in the 30s, read "the Boys in the Boat", by Daniel James Brown. It's great story, even though Cornell only gets a few mentions.by Chris H82 - Other Sports

Nothing specific Cornell in this article, but a good explanation about the development of junior hockey options in the US, specifically the USHL and the National Team Development Program; Seattle Times article - US junior options.by Chris H82 - Hockey
