Re: ECAC Playoffs 2024 - 6 weeks ago
ursusminor Trotsky Congratulations all of our long-suffering eLynah RPI fans. Now Godspeed against Q. RPI has a long-history of winning when a last seed in the playoffs. i can remember like it was yesterday RPI, the lowest seed (#8) in the ECAC playoffs, defeating #1 UNH in 1974 in OT on a goal by Rick Smith. The only video I have ever seen is showing UNH scoring 3 goals in 1:39. Whenever somby marty - Hockey

Swampy Trotsky Huggy bear was garbage. It's not our bear; it's an inconsequential marketing gimmick from a period that was singularly soulless. This is our bear: When I started Cornell in 1964, I brought a bear sweatshirt home for my younger brother, who was nine. He really liked the bear, as I think most kids would. So, there's lots to be said for animalistic insignia. OTOH, my broby marty - Other Sports

Scersk '97 Iceberg ugarte i never hated huggy bear Yeah, I don't see the hate for that logo either. It's very distinct It reeked “just like every other mid-2000s cartoon logo”… for 20 years! Fine but two things. We seem to be bare of bears. We don't have PO'd bear nor hugggy. And two, huggy bear swag isn't on clearance, yet. He may be a lame bear but he's our lame bear and I'll snatcby marty - Other Sports

RichH Trotsky Shane covers with 2.2 seconds. Come on, Mike. No coverage of the Senior Night festivities, although they did cut to it for about 10 seconds before it turning back to the infinite ESPN+ ad. Pity. Three plus minutes of Senior Night!by marty - Hockey
Re: Ohio State @ Cornell lax 3/2 - 7 weeks ago
upprdeck I don't see anyway they play a game like yesterday inside. There were games all over this weekend played in much worse weather and far worse rain. What odds are you giving? Will the facility be done by next season?by marty - Other Sports

scoop85 marty I couldn't catch the radio broadcast. Who was benched on Saturday because of Friday's poor play? Not sure if was because of poor play, but Donaldson (who I think is pretty good) was again the odd man out. Mosko was in though and played quite a bit.by marty - Hockey

Re: Women 2023-24 - 7 weeks ago
Trotsky dag14 The scoreboard says 1st period but it is actually the second period. We scored one in the first and one so far in the second period. Edit: scoreboard now correct.Ah. Thank you! Thank you, I'm headed there after dinner for a game that is supposed to start at 7. Time for some ribs at "The Antlers".by marty - Hockey

Trotsky chimpfood Trotsky Beeeej Trotsky Is there any media for QF1? No video on ESPN+. Some Nazi ranting on WHCU. It is in fact on ESPN+.Ah. "Live now." Thanks. Tiny crowd. Our students suck. we get a home series in the ECAC quarters every year, this game really isn’t that special, not to mention it is 3pm on a fridayIt's the playoffs. The little bastards can show up. Re: Cornell v Union - 7 weeks ago
ugarte Posting the game thread early to note that the womens' QF is pushing the start time for the Union game back to 7:30. Is there an admission fee for the women? I'm wondering if I might be able to arrive early enough to see that quarterfinal.by marty - Hockey

Swampy George64 osorojo I was hoping for a cogent explanation (or excuse) for current Cornell Men's hockey pitiful record against opponents ranked 20th best - or worse! I only mentioned past Cornell Ice Hockey glory because I still cherish memories of the Lou Mobbs and Paul Patton and Ned Harkness days. Of course, I remember Paul Patton and Ned Harkness, but Lou Mobbs was only a vague memory, sby marty - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 8 weeks ago
RichH adamw BearLoverSorry, yeah—the question I’m asking is how much higher our RPI would be if we changed an OT loss to a regulation win. I only mentioned Clarkson because the clear outcome of an effective hand pass challenge would have made this hypothetical a reality. 1.200 for straight win - 0.400 for the OT loss ... but then obviously divide by all the games played so far - and that a teamby marty - Hockey

Dafatone ugarte Trotsky adamw it's all ball bearings nowadays Yeah, but I mean the very end, when he actually died. That was extremely sudden. Goal differential in conference: +54 Qpc +28 Cor +12 Cgt + 1 Drt 0 Uni < 0 Everybody else It's our fault that Dartmouth is positive. Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 8 weeks ago
BearLover Scersk '97 BearLover Again, the logical extension of Trotsky’s argument is to not care about the regular season, not care about out of conference games, and put the entire season’s weight on 2-5 games in March. Last night’s game was irrelevant in Trotsky’s view, I guess. Which is nice for him, because if he actually cared about Cornell hockey having national success, last night was abouby marty - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 8 weeks ago
Scersk '97 RichH As the game wore on, and we kept playing poorly, I could see this ending, because it's happened before. We weren’t even facing the most dangerous lead in hockey, which is 4-0, of course. We are not good at shutdown hockey this year. I’m going to chalk that up to having a bunch of freshmen. The struggles on the PK are in the same alley but are slightly more mystifying, becaby marty - Hockey
Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
Scersk '97 ugarte It is still a big deal to miss the NCAA tournament because we can't take care of business against teams like Yale and Clarkson and Dartmouth. As a second-tier conference we simply don't have that margin for error and I can't shrug it off. If I remember correctly, Bearlover hates it when the ECAC is full of strong teams. He’s never been part of the “rising tide” faction. Buby marty - Hockey

jtwcornell91 upprdeck ugarte i'm sure it's cool but very few schools play it so i struggle to care. it's not like wrestling where the diversity of weights is built into the format, since all of them wrestle together. i also wouldn't care about short-guy basketball. some schools play JV football as well. Swampy sah67 Jacob MacDonald was profiled by a San Jose fan site as a model for the future of "position-less hockey" due to his versatility in shifting back and forth between forward and defenseman, even during a single game. Lots of good quotes from his coach (David Quinn) on that role as well: The subsequent waiving of JMD aside, it seems to me that, against Yale and Brown, Robinsby marty - Hockey

Re: Opponents and Others 2023-24 - 2 months ago
RichH George64 Do any of these metrics factor in how a team is doing recently, versus how they played in November 2023? It used to be part of the criteria. “Record in last 10” or something similar back when the smoke-filled room still held a scrap of power. I remember being against that then. BearLover CC has tied NoDak 2-2 through two periods despite being badly outshot. Time to !!!!PANIC!!!! Not sure if I'll panic but if I do I'll PANIC!!. Using six extra exclamation points is inexcusable and I'm considering the same punishment that you meted out in Grady last night.by marty - Hockey
