Re: Lake Placid-2024 - Yesterday
Chris '03 jtwcornell91 billhoward St. Lawrence definitely helps attendance in Lake Placid. Clarkson a bit more. Clarkson 3700 students St. Lawrence 2200 students The best possible ECAC-in-Placid turnout would be Cornell, Clarkson, St. Lawrence and, um, pick one, maybe RPI. It is about 80 miles from Clarkson (+5 for St Lawrence) to Lake Placid but it is dark (well, yeah), twisty roadby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

JasonN95 jtwcornell91 I miss UVM, who would probably be 4.5 on that list. I sometimes wonder how things would have been for UVM if it stayed. It doesn’t seem like the jump to Hockey East worked out for the program. They were 60 seconds from a national championshipin the Frozen Four in 2009. (Apparently I've swapped UVM and Miami--and presumably Milo and Brent Brekke--in my memory of that touby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - Yesterday
Chris '03 andyw2100 Dunc What the fuck. They kicked me out cuz for starting Garry glitter due to “swears”.. in my last Cornell hockey game… I’m literally crying….- That's ridiculous! I'm guessing the band didn't play it because they somehow thought Schafer didn't want them to? I really don't think that was his intention. It's probably a few years before your time, Dunc, but for a number oby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Give My Regards Trotsky IIRC one of the two ties we got during The Troubles (0-10-2) would have been a win but the eejits cost us a penalty and Harvard scored the tying goal on powerplay. The one I can still remember was '95, the last one of that streak, when somebody heaved a fish onto the ice at the start of the second period. Minor was called and announced, and then Arthur read the no-throwby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky My order of precedence: 0. Cornell 1. Clarkson 2. Harvard (I know, sue me) 3. St. Lawrence 4. RPI 5. Dartmouth 5. Princeton 5. Yale 5. Colgate 5. Brown 10. Union 11. Quinnipiac I miss UVM, who would probably be 4.5 on that list.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 pmbblblaw Anyone know where the Cornell fan section will be at Lake Placid this year? Probably hasn't been assigned yet. They used to assign the four corners before the quarterfinals, but that was back when they had paper tickets, since the winners of the quarterfinal series could take the tickets with them.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Brianne Jenner '15 is on the roster for Canada in the upcoming IIHF Women's World Championship in Utica (only a 2 hour drive from Ithaca): Apparently, she also plays for Ottawa in the new Professional Women's Hockey League, which I just learned did not bother to choose nicknames or logos for its teams before starting play this season.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Yet another collegetown bar bites the dust - 20 days ago
billhoward jtwcornell91One time in my 30s I was nearly clotheslined by the bouncer at the Chapter House because it didn't occur to me that I would need to show my ID while strolling in the front door. There is a belief that some bars try to keep out people beyond their 20s, certainly their 30s, and they'll reject you for not having a license. Robb ugarte what a good feeling to come back to elynah to see that we didn't lose after having to turn it off (as opposed to turning it off in anger) down 2-0. obvs annoying that it hurts us in the pairwise but it's always fun to watch your guys come back for the tie than to blow a lead. we all contain multitudes. Robb jtwcornell91 upprdeck I remember a physics course at my college where in the class of 60 only 10 of us got better than a zero.. made my 16 look pretty impressive as a solid B and I took it and was happy. RichH imafrshmn an incredible moral victory, if that's possible in any sense And honestly, getting a chance at the winner with the last faceoff (after the tying goal) showed me something. That was pretty fantastic, not giving up on the three points, even if it didn't work.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky jtwcornell91 RichH Dafatone My sanity versus these announcers is the battle now. You can absolutely lift a stick and keep it tied up for the half a second that a guy is trying to shoot. Now that the drunk uncles at Brown have been led out to pasture, these guys take the crown. The past 5 minutes have been about how the refs must live in Schafer’s guest house to get so many calls.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky WederThey ring it for big hits in women’s games, too. Which is sort of interesting because those could in theory wind up being penalties.I was thinking that same thing during our game. What if there's a borderline hit on our guy and it's in review? That stupid bell ring might just be the psychological tip to the side of it being excessive. "Potsdam Greeks United" is a nice reminder of the fact that Clarkson and SUNY Potsdam (or whatever they're calling it these days) have a combined Greek system. RichH upprdeck iceing, lose a draw, allow a crazy angle shot and goal then give away in OT behind the net. Lots of things to go wrong to get a loss and why is Clarkon the place so many of them happen. As the game wore on, and we kept playing poorly, I could see this ending, because it's happened before. Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 25 days ago
Dafatone Surprised we didn't call time out before that face-off. Can you call time on an icing? I can't remember. That went off the center's hand and back. Not sure it's a hand pass. I was also wondering why we didn't call the TO there. Ironic to lose the lead on an icing right after two instances of waiting to gain the red line and then losing the puck before getting a shot at the emby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

upprdeck ugarte i'm sure it's cool but very few schools play it so i struggle to care. it's not like wrestling where the diversity of weights is built into the format, since all of them wrestle together. i also wouldn't care about short-guy basketball. some schools play JV football as well. Back when the Ivies only let sophomores and up play varsity football, there was also Freshman Football.by jtwcornell91 - Other Sports
