(summary at bottom) Despite all that wording about profanity and abusive language, I'm inclined to think that the key sentence on the ticket back is "This ticket is a revocable license which may be withdrawn at any time for any reason." Assuming that whoever wrote that up in the first place knew what (s)he was doing, and it's legally sound, then they could (in theory) kick you out fby Shorts - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 @ Brown 2 (OT 11/5) post-game thread - 18 years ago
I read the NCAA hockey rulebook , and couldn't find anything about the number of visiting band members (although just about all of the Championships rule books limit the number of band members to 25 on each side). I tried looking through the various general NCAA rules, but there are just too many to look through (although I did find the section that talks about the rules for high-school age prosby Shorts - Hockey
Re: Berenson Boundary - Good for the Red or Bad for the Red? - 18 years ago
Ignoring the specific reasons given in the Michigan Daily, this rule change makes some sense to me, at least in the context of the various offsides rules for other sports. As it was taught to me as a kid (which could mean that I misunderstood or was misinformed), the point of offsides is to prevent an offensive player who doesn't have the ball/puck from going behind the opposing defense, away frby Shorts - Hockey

Re: Tough Day for the Locals - 19 years ago
Somewhat off-topic, but living in Connecticut, it's local for me. UConn's mens Hockey team got beaten so badly by Holy Cross last night, in UConn's holiday tournament, that the USCHO recap didn't even do it justice. The Hartford Courant includes a more accurate description of HC's fourth goal:Brian Kolb was then credited with his first goal at 11:17 when the Huskies swept a pass into an emptyby Shorts - Hockey

Re: Lynah Rink Refurbishment - 19 years ago
On a somewhat tangential note, spending this season watching UConn's home games, I've gained a new appreciation for seam-less glass, which I must say I'd taken for granted during my four years in Lynah. The seams are at least 3 inches wide or so, and opaque. Not only that, but they apparently stick out into the playing area (volume?) enough that the puck can take some really weird bounces. Re: Harvard Football Fans agree... - 19 years ago
Here are two pictures, one from harvardsucks.org, and the other from the Yale Daily News: Judging from the positions of people on the field, they're not taken from exactly the same time/angle, but it's pretty close. It seems to me that the harvardsucks.org one is much more legible than the YDN one. Also, it seems that the last frames of the video look remarkably like the YDN photo. Myby Shorts - Hockey
Re: Grade Inflation - 19 years ago
As I've been looking for jobs in Engineering, a lot of companies list in the "Qualifications" section a minimum GPA of 3.0 for BS candidates, or 3.5 for Masters candidates. I'd been wondering why someone with more education would also need a higher GPA. I guess that explains it.by Shorts - Hockey

What, no Jay Leno-style 5 years notice? IMHO, Age, you did a great job. Will you continue keeping up eLynah? Perhaps Red-White hockey might serve as a competitive audition for the next Cowbell player.by Shorts - Hockey

Re: [OT] Web page issue at Ivysports.com - 20 years ago
I experienced something somewhat similar: the status bar showed icye.org and unicef, and unicef and data.org (apparently an organization concerned with AIDS and national debt in Africa) tried to save cookies on my computer. My best guess is that the Ivy League is participating in some sort of charity endorsing thingie, but it's just a guess. At any rate, it's not just you.by Shorts - Hockey

Excerpt from: Cornell, I yell, yell, yell, Cornell! Cornell, I yell, yell, yell, Cornell! The cheer may sound easy, but was easily misspoken, as a letter to the editor on Nov. 23, 1903 made clear: "Many alumni returning to Percy Field have noticed that the Cornell yell has been considerably changed during the past few years. There may be some musicians who consider Bailey to be a treasure (I'm guessing perhaps members of the orchestra), but I know of quite a few who would much rather have the treasures out of a red box with a leprechaun on the front. At times when the seats are not filled, all those un-padded seat backs create some echoes that are downright funky. Percussion, in particular, is amplified well out ofby Shorts - Hockey

Re: Hockey trivia - 20 years ago
I think, if you had a complete record of all the times when every player was on the ice, then you could adjust a player's +/- for the effects of the other players on the ice at that time. For example: Player A (Cornell) played 500 minutes, with an unadjusted +/- of +7. During those 500 minutes: Player B (Cornell, +6) played 200 minutes. Player C (Cornell, +9) played 100 minutes. ... Re: Panoramic Photos of a Full Lynah? - 20 years ago
With a typical "serious" set-up, ie. a reasonably wide-angle lens, you could probably get that shot in 3 frames. With a specialized fish-eye lens, you could probably get it by cropping a single exposure (although with only one frame, you probably couldn't blow it up to poster size...maybe you could with film). With my point-and-shoot digital, which has a minimum focal length of 5.8mmby Shorts - Hockey

Re: Panoramic Photos of a Full Lynah? - 20 years ago
Standing at one end has a couple main problems: 1) The goal judge's box. 2) It's not a particularly good vantage point of the ice (which is why most people tend to prefer sitting on the side of the rink). You wouldn't really get much from a panorama taken from the end of the ice that you couldn't get from a regular picture taken from higher up in the stands at the end of the rink (except for thby Shorts - Hockey
