jtwcornell91 Trotsky I knew about the 5th year. But I thought it had to do time lost to COVID. Not counting time played during COVID is seriously weird to me. I may just have mentally blocked it out as absurd, like MLB extra innings a d professional allowed in the Olympics. I did not know that either, but then I've paid less attention to college hockey in the past few years. Still, it seeby pjd8 - Hockey

dbilmes Give My Regards Trotsky This is the day Our life will surely change This is the day When things fall into place Today is my birthday. Not that anyone should care, except that... the only other time Cornell has ever played a game on my birthday was... ... the 2003 quarterfinal win over BC. We all care! Happy Birthday and let's hope history repeats itself. I'll take birthdayby pjd8 - Hockey

arugula Alaska Arizona State earlier this month. A full on brawl. I saw that box. More penalty minutes than the Cornell-Union game that included the height of stupidity established by Leeor Shtrom (And then- And THEN- ).by pjd8 - Hockey

BearLover RichH BearLover I’ll get yelled at for saying this, but…turns out having five draft picks in your freshman class (maybe six, if Robertson gets picked this year) is a good thing. And, in another one of BearLover’s Classic Takes, the conference being weak this year helped us too…to win a championship, the teams we had to beat were ranked 50th, 29th, and 43rd in the PWR… Ah, but the factby pjd8 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 jtwcornell91 abmarks Trotsky jtwcornell91Now that they're doing the regionals on Thursday-Saturday and Friday-Sunday, couldn't one site bid to host both regionals? This is actually brilliant. Only downsides I can imagine would be finding enough practice facilities for 8 teams plus enough hotel blocks Good point. They used to do it with six teams (over two days) back in the 9by pjd8 - Hockey

Dunc BearLover fastforward BearLover Dunc Unfortunately for us students a lot of people may have Prelims the Thursday before spring break - I imagine some will try to come on Saturday tho if we advance Hopefully the hockey players don’t. Most of them do and they have to leave 2 days ahead so they may miss several So how’s that gonna work? There are “prelim conflict” forms you can fill out to taby pjd8 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 8 weeks ago
RichH jtwcornell91 Jeff Hopkins '82 To give you an idea of how second class this tournament feels, there are no programs at the rink and not even a QR code to scan for one (like there was last year). They just didn't bother creating one. Also, there's a single tiny stand selling souvenirs. None of it has the name of the schools on it - all the souvenirs simply have the tournament logo. RichH Jeff Hopkins '82 To give you an idea of how second class this tournament feels, there are no programs at the rink and not even a QR code to scan for one (like there was last year). They just didn't bother creating one. The fact that someone who cared about the program didn't know of its existence says something. Even after they put together a thorough program, they weren't promoting iby pjd8 - Hockey

BearLover upprdeck Next week Cornell needs to take care and sweep but we get barely anything for that in the PWR Umass-prov. 1 game series one will lose STC vs WMU. root for WMU sweep CC vs Omaha again need one to sweep and still not clear that does enough. Omaha sweeping Ndak last week not good for Cornell. Still that would move us to 15th for sure. I do not see a path for Cornelby pjd8 - Hockey

billhoward Lots of band both nights. Kind of nice Friday, the Cornell band played a couple numbers with the badly outnumbered Clarkson band. Thanks for the pics! When I was in the band, we had a great relationship with Clarkson, so not surprised that the two bands played together. Nice to hear they still coordinate. Am surprised to hear the Clarkson band was badly outnumbered. They wereby pjd8 - Hockey
Re: Yale at Cornell, 2/17 - 3 months ago
Part of the focus on Pairwise is because we're in the bubble range. If we were well above or below it, the change in ranking wouldn't mean as much. Part of it is expectations. My freshman year, my immediate fan circle didn't have super high expectations, and we definitely enjoyed the season game by game more. But back then, Pairwise didn't exist either, so it was easier to live in the moment. Weby pjd8 - Hockey
Re: Yale at Cornell, 2/17 - 3 months ago
adamw Unfortunately the Big Red dropped from 11 to 15 in the Pairwise with the tie. Colorado College is losing to North Dakota, That will help. And Penn State is ahead of Michigan, so that's good. But UNH destroyed Maine this weekend. The Wildcats have a tough schedule left, with two against UMass and two against BC, but they figured out how to put away a top ten team by putting out two bigby pjd8 - Hockey

ugarte Other than the hilarious number of near misses, very satisfying to watch us skate circles around them. We should have shorted out the scoreboard but probably should also be grateful that we didn't lose against the run of play because they had a number of missed opportunities as well. Loved Seger getting back on the board on a beautiful feed (from Penney?) and finish, plus the tic tac toe fby pjd8 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell, 2/2 - 3 months ago
Trotsky Current RPI: 12. .554 Michigan 13. .554 Western Michigan 14. .550 St. Cloud 15. .549 Cornell 16. .543 Colorado College 17. .542 UNH UNH still has to play Maine two more times and BC three times, which will help them here. Cornell has only three games against opponents who are over .500, and barely over at that.by pjd8 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell, 2/2 - 3 months ago
Trotsky Huh, the faceoff penalty is charged to BENCH. That’s why I was confused. If someone is encroaching, shouldn’t that player get the penalty? But maybe not if two different players encroach in succession?by pjd8 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence at Cornell, 2/2 - 3 months ago
Just checked the live box. What do you have to do to get a face off violation penalty?by pjd8 - Hockey

Re: Cornell at Dartmouth, 1/27 - 3 months ago
A late refresh of PWR has Cornell at 15 with an RPI of .5498 and UNH at 16 with an RPI of .5489. These schools have the two best goalies in the nation, and they both are capable of playing above their ranking when playing a good team and below their ranking when playing a poor one. They both promise to make the late regular season interesting. I'll get to see the Wildcats take on BU and Merrimby pjd8 - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Princeton 11/18/23 - 6 months ago
Trotsky My hot take is if Bancroft was available tonight we would have won. He's our one true "natural goal scorer." Boy did we need one. We had so many phenomenal chances but simply did not have the right man on the puck. But it doesn't bode well if we have to have that one guy to beat a team like Princeton, especially after we were given the gift of a 5 minute major.by pjd8 - Hockey
Re: 11/10 Dartmouth game thread - 6 months ago
You know, when one outshoots one's opponent 2 to 1, one usually has the lead. I am fully prepared for Cornell to regress to the mean. Let's go Red!by pjd8 - Hockey

Having been away from forums for far too long, as I'm reading Trotsky's posts, I'm thinking, this makes me feel like I'm back at the games in person. <looks at user profile> Ah, of course. Waving from Seattle! Waving at Anne 85 as well!by pjd8 - Hockey
