Re: Conference Playoffs: Non-conference rooting interests - 10 years ago
RichH Jeff Hopkins '82 WE ARE... So dumb you have to keep repeating your own identity wherever you go? Here's the background story behind Penn State's chant: "In 1948, Triplett became the first African-American to play in the Cotton Bowl Classic, catching the tying touchdown in Penn State's 13-13 tie with Southern Methodist University. It has been suggested Penn State's now-famous 'Wby trainbow - Hockey
Re: Conference Playoffs: Michigan v. Penn State - 10 years ago
Using CHN, when I put the Penn State result in, CU is 15 and Michigan is 18. In any case, losing three times to Penn State this year is not going to do Michigan any favors with the committee. Lastly, for my wife's alma mater I say LGR! For my alma mater I say We Are ... !by trainbow - Hockey
Re: Michigan already assuming victoy over Cornell - 12 years ago
KenP If we play well, get some scoring and hold on, I think we can have a lead heading into the 3rd period. If that happens, I'll bet the farm that the blow the lead, and it'll come down to a crapshoot for who moves on. Quite a predicton, it turns out.by trainbow - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 Michigan 2 post game - 12 years ago
RatushnyFan Michigan should be kicking themselves over the winning goal, Hunwick made a great initial save but the closest forward to Craig let him skate right past him. The kid either didn't see him or simply didn't move his feet, he should have been covered. I think the Michigan defense was caught by surprise. The one defender got turned around (I don't think he expected the pass), so he coulby trainbow - Hockey

Re: Harvard 6 Cornell 1 ECAC post-game (post-mortem?) - 12 years ago
BearLover Great post, not much else to say. This was by far the worst loss of the season in the season's biggest game. Win and we're in, but I can't say I'm too confident about it. Terrific post. Thank you. Terrible showing by Cornell. My wife wondered whether the whole team were sick with the flu, given how lackluster they played in each phase of the game. Re: You Are The Committee - 12 years ago
As far as I can tell, if Cornell wins one game in AC, they are in the top 14 of PWR. WMich might jump ahead if they gain an upset in their tournament, but CU is still 14th. CU might still be in if they lose two games and the underdogs don't prevail in the other conferences, but it gets close for the committee. Their position in the PWR seems to depend on the comparison with UMinn, which rightby trainbow - Hockey

Trotsky If you're into tormenting yourself over Might Have Beens, Cornell was 2-2-2 .500 against the bottom three teams, and 10-2-4 .750 otherwise. My sense was that this team played at the level of the competition. Here's hoping they make it out of Ithaca in two weeks.by trainbow - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Colgate - 12 years ago
The ECAC final four is not even a given anymore. This year's team needs to be ECAC champs to go anywhere. But I do not sense any improvements since the CC series, retrogression is more like it, sadly to say.by trainbow - Hockey

George64 Cornell Red Alert: Scrivens v Greening in Toronto Ottawa 5 Toronto 2 Scrivens stopped 19 of 22; two Ottawa goals were empty net and one was a 5 on 3 powerplay. Greening was on the ice for one of the late goals, but did not factor in the scoring otherwise.by trainbow - Hockey
Re: Goalie Choice for Atlantic City - 13 years ago
I was very disappointed to see Iles start in goal in the ECAC final. As the game progressed, I just simply got angry. A team can ride a hot goalie a long way, and Garman had it over Iles recently. No goalie wins a game, and other posts talked about needing better offense. But goalies can lose games, and demotivate a team. A hot goalie keeps a team in a game and they can often find a way to wiby trainbow - Hockey

The St Lawrence radio sounded very muddy. The Princeton radio is clear as a bell. So you could easily hear a pin drop at the rink when StLU went up 2-0 in the 1st period.by trainbow - Hockey

Re: 2011 ECAC Post-season - 13 years ago
From the Clarkson radio announcers: Clarkson on the penalty kill late in the 1st period ... "Clarkson is looking more like Cornell, which is a good thing." They went on to explain that Cornell PKers hang the stick out there to disrupt passes and such, but without getting a penalty. They were glad to see their Golden Knights learning good technique. Nice compliment.by trainbow - Hockey

trainbow trainbow St Cloud scores early in the 3rd to make it 2-1 Mankato. They score again on a delayed penalty at 6:31, now 2-2. Incredible, they scored again just a few seconds later, player knocked into the net. Under review. Goal!!! 3-2 SCSU Same player gets 2 goals in 20 seconds.by trainbow - Hockey

scoop85 Trotsky Harvard now up 3-zip. Princeton's been a huge disappointment. I know they've had injuries, but jeez. Kalemba was exposed this year. Harvard, OTOH, has gotten some life. Would be interesting if we were matched-up with them next weekend.. The two Harvard-Princeton games had an interesting pattern. Harvard scored all of its 7 goals in the third period, once coming from 2-0by trainbow - Hockey

Darmouth free audio - 14 years ago
Just a note about free Darmouth hockey audio. There are two links for Darmouth on the "free audio" page on elynah. The first one seems to be a premium, non-free audio option. The second link was broken. However, there is free audio from online radio . You just need to click on the "listen live" region of the home page. DisplacedCornelliantrainbowSome observations from the box score: Cornell won only 40% of the faceoffs. Schafer's comments on that: 'When asked how they can improve their faceoff draws in Sunday’s Midwest Regional final, Cornell head coach Mike Schafer didn’t hesitate. “It’s really easy. We’re not going to have to play against Joe Vitale. We heard he was good coming into the game. Heby trainbow - Hockey

Some observations from the box score: Cornell won only 40% of the faceoffs. On ice for all three CU goals: Gallagher and B. Nash Davenport was on ice for the two NU goals. Barlow had 7 of Cornell's 32 shots on goal, 6 in the third period alone. No other player on either team had more than 3 (Kary had 3 for CU).by trainbow - Hockey
