The Cornell Club of Arizona and I will be in Section 107.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell in the Valley of the Sun - 5 months ago
Thanks. Through a Facebook post I found after following your link, I found that the Cornell Club of Arizona did buy a block of tickets, but they are sold out and have a wait list. I asked if they could let me know the section they are in.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell in the Valley of the Sun - 5 months ago
I'm going to both games, but haven't bought tickets yet. Anyone know if the Cornell alumni association has a block of tickets, and how to get them if they did? It has been almost 15 years since I've been to a Cornell game. I live in California.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: OT (but not really): "Where Have All the Scorers Gone?" - 17 years ago
ugarteAl DeFlorioTrotskyDrewI hear ya, John and respect your opinion. I will concede the ECAC Championship, but I think you get the gist of my message, that these are all rungs in the ladder in the quest for the grail. No, there are two ladders and two grails. I would rather win the ECAC title even if it meant being sent west in the regional than lose the final and stay home. Seems rather obviby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 at 3 Union 2/9/07 postgame - 17 years ago
I guess this season is meeting the low expectations I had at the outset. Trotsky/Kepler had a USCHO poll at the beginning of the year on how far we would fall. I voted for something like "Borderline TUC/Slightly above 0.500 ECAC." That's exactly where we are and I'm not expecting any more. Yes I know the season isn't over and anything can happen, but the odds of this team making theby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell-UNH Postgame Thread - 17 years ago
Very surprised and pleased to see the score of this one. I had thought this was going to be a rebuilding year with all the offseason losses and graduation of last year's key players. And yes RichS, I'm also happy to see Clarkson win. Big non-conference wins by fellow ECAC teams are good for the PWRs. Now if only someone would add a TV game or two.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Shane Hynes - 17 years ago
The Rancorhockey's future has some words on Shane Hynes. Thanks for the link. I'm happy to read that Hynes is playing well. I knew he had a knee injury, but didn't realize he had ACL reconstruction. It's tough surgery to recover from (they drill a hole through the center of your knee and string a graft through it to become your new ACL) as I know from personal experience. Here's a story aby Steve M - Hockey

Adam Morrison is on waivers. The Coyotes are likely to call up LeNeveu from San Antonio.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros -- September 2006 - 17 years ago
Not very good news on Shane Hynes. The Ducks sent him back to Portland after Saturday's training camp session. His knee injury, that limited him to only 12 games with the Portland Pirates last year, is apparently still bothering him. Edit: Actually he didn't even skate at training camp. "Right wing Shane Hynes was the lone player among the 51 in camp who did not skate. Hynes is recoby Steve M - Hockey
Re: O'Byrne goes pro - 17 years ago
Sigh. This year's losses to the pros and graduation are starting to rival those of 2003. Good thing the NC schedule is easy this year. Good way for the freshmen to get their feet wet with the heavy load of responsibility they will have.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: McKee signs with Anaheim - 18 years ago
calgARI '07McKee will be a third goalie with Anaheim (for some reason) and will be practicing with them today. You're right. McKee was pursued by 8 teams, so it could be the Ducks added a clause that he has a roster spot for this year as extra incentive. The Ducks' roster has been only 22 players for most of the season. Since the NHL allows a 23 man roster and the Ducks are well belowby Steve M - Hockey
Re: McKee signs with Anaheim - 18 years ago
calgARI '07RatushnyFancalgARI '07By the way, I am almost sure that Giguere will be gone this summer.Just curious why you're so confident of this. Giguere has a lot of OTL's but has stepped his game of late and Anaheim came out of nowhere and is in solid playoff contention now. Their #2 goalie has played 5 games since Feb 1 so Giguere has gotten most of the starts. I don't know anything specifiby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Don't worry, Harvard still... - 18 years ago
TrotskyFrench RageI agree. Go to the USCHO boards and look at what the Western fans think now compared to a week ago. Note also how different it is from last year. When we lost to Minnesota, we came off as little cry-babies. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble on the large ice surface!" This year, we were respectful and businesslike and most un-whiney,by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Don't worry, Harvard still... - 18 years ago
French RageTownie More selfishly, had we beaten H, I might have been able to go to the games, assuming we would have been seeded in either Albany or Ma. You know, though it was a big deal before the brackets, I could really care less about where we went or who we faced now. We faced two WCHA teams out West, and were still a goal away from the FF; we proved what we needed to. I don't think tby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Better season than us - 18 years ago
JohnnieAg'99They may suck, but they did beat us at Lynah & in the ECAC finals I'd much rather beat them at Bright for the Ivy title, finish fourth in the RS, crush them for the ECAC title, and go 0-1 in the NCAAs than lose the Ivy title, finish third in the RS, lose to them badly in Albany, and go 1-1 in the NCAAs - even if the loss was epic. Who here would rather have our season tby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Wisconsin postgame thread (post-season thread?) NCAA quarterfinals 2006 - 18 years ago
DeltaOne81Amazing, amazing game. As was said already, this team has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. They came out and played two awesome games when it counted most. Incredible effort, incredible game, against a team that has earned a ton of respect from me - almost as much as our team did this weekend. I feel much the same as I did after '02, when we came out and played a great, close gamby Steve M - Hockey
Re: POST GAME CORNELL 3-2 COLORADO COLLEGE - 18 years ago
Tom14850 The one thing that impressed me was some of the speed shown by the Cornell players. I myself knew that Cornell had some good speed, but I was interested to see the comparison with CC, a team that is nationally recognized as having very good team speed. There were a couple of near breakaways where a Cornell forward actually outskated the CC defense. Part of this is "Hey! We do have gby Steve M - Hockey
Re: NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament Bracket Selection Show - 18 years ago
bigred06screwed again We were screwed last year by the complete lack of subjectivity in the PWR system that places no more importance on a conference championship result than a consolation game, and the mindless insistence of the committee on matching 1-8, 2-7, 3-6,& 4-5 in the second round. This year, however, we got exactly what we deserved after a relatively mediocre season and a blow ouby Steve M - Hockey
Re: 2006 Pairwise Comparisons Projections: the Final Stretch! - 18 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82Bottom line: Win and we finish 4, 5, or 6 and stay east (jy3's slate is the only way we get a 1 seed). Lose and we drop to 8 and go to Green Bay. Even worse, Sucks can finish as high as 2 by beating us. We can't let that happen. Overall I would consider that good news. Unlike last year, we contrl our own destiny to stay east going into the championship game. It makes tby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Clarkson, game 1 postgame - 18 years ago
I can see Rich is at it again trolling the Cornell message board picking nits on every word that is typed. Just like in years past and just like in the Red Sox thread of the USCHO cafe. Good win tonight by our team, and no we don't have to praise Clarkson if we don't feel like it. This is, after all, our message board. Rich needs to get a life, or this message board needs an ignore featurby Steve M - Hockey
Re: cornell v golden showers, game 1 - 18 years ago
Rich STrotskyWell deserved win. If they play as well tomorrow, they ought to be on their way to Albany. Great job, guys!!! don't count them chickens so fast... Note he did say "if.". I don't think anyone feels this series is in the bag after what happened 2 years ago, or in Game 2 last year as well.by Steve M - Hockey

jtwcornell91 ETA: Wow, what a bunch of assholes on that board. Come on now. They are Minnesotans. That automatically makes them much nicer people than we snobby, obnoxious northeasterners. The only thing I can think of as the reason for their intense hatred of Cornell (Minny did win the game after all) is the presence our small contingent of fans had in their arena. Re: clarkson @ cornell, ecachl second round chatter - 18 years ago
JasonN95TrotskyGonna be a very, very tough series. Agreed. I somewhat understand the desire to have a chance to improve PWR or to face a tough opponent who'll hopefully bring out Cornell's best, but, frankly, I'd be much happier with the ECACHL championship and Cornell having the path of least resistance that leads to that. Playing Clarkson is not that path. Consider this: would you choose (by Steve M - Hockey
Re: 2005-2006 PWR - playoffs edition! - 18 years ago
Jacob '06jmh30Chris '03I doubt this is your point, but if you're trying to say that a Cornell vs. Wisconsin in a regional game in GB is unfair, I'd call that a stretch. The same argument would have to apply to Cornell vs. Wisconsin in Rochester next year.I've asked this before, and it's probably been answered before, but who's the host of the Rochester regional? The NCAA website says the ECAC Hoby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Shane Hynes - 18 years ago
David HardingFrom the Portland Pirates web site: Shane Hynes is done for the year as he suffered a set-back in his recovery. That's sad news. I wish Shane the best of luck in his off-season rehab. I sure hope he can come back at full strength next year and that he stays in the Ducks' organization.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Union Post Game Thread - 18 years ago
billhowardSchafer's allusion could also be to players injured and playing ... at a level we think is subpar, not knowing perhaps what's really going on. That's how I read it too. I think it gives some reason for hope in the post season, especially since we have a bye next week. Hopefully that's enough time to allow most to all of the players to heal. Another reason for optimism is that the Nby Steve M - Hockey
Re: 2004 All Over Again? - 18 years ago
WinnabagoSteve M I won't ever be completely over it unless we win an NC in my lifetime. I hate to blame officiating for an outcome of a game, but every time I see a deflected goal reviewed and hear the announcers invariably say "the video replay has to be conclusive to overturn the call," the memory of that day makes my blood boil all over again. The one and only thing that makes iby Steve M - Hockey
Re: 2004 All Over Again? - 18 years ago
kroseBeeeejI'll never be over Macho Grande, I stayed home from work that day to watch the game. I was literally on the edge of my seat for 3 hours, and took a very long, depressed walk afterwards, muttering to myself the entire time. That is the low point of my sports-following life: easily the most personally devestating loss I've ever witnessed. I think I hate UNH more than Harvard. Serioby Steve M - Hockey
Re: 2004 All Over Again? - 18 years ago
DeltaOne81The ECAC is also distinctly better this year than in 2004. In 2004 the only ECAC NCAA representation was the tournament champion Crimson who then proceeded to crash horribly against Maine. So while our ECAC numbers may seem more like 2004, its not an even playing field. I disagree. If you look at the KRACH rankings, Cornell is the only top 20 team in the league right now. Re: Harvard at Cornell post-game thread - 18 years ago
Well it is pretty depressing to lose to Harvard on home ice for the first time in 6 years in a nationally televised game to boot. Since Saturday was my birthday and I'm still in a full leg brace from knee surgery, watching the game on TV was to be the highlight of my day. Oh well. Maybe I've watched too much NHL and Olympic hockey this year, but our team sure looked slow. Given that we don'by Steve M - Hockey
