Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Another Ivy League team suspended - 7 years ago
Jim Hyla CUontheslopes "To have to suspend" seems like a bit of a stretch to me. The currently en vogue move of suspending men's teams for this type of behavior strikes me as absurd. Firstly, it's unfair to punish those who did not participate. Second, the underlying activity giving rise to the suspensions (discussing the relative attractiveness or promiscuity of members of the oppositeby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go - AD - 8 years ago
When considering making a change any top leadership position, it's important not only to look at the body of work, but the trend. For all the flack he gets, Noel took Cornell athletics to some pretty exciting places. However, the trend recently has been absolutely awful. We're starting to see sports where we have been traditionally a power become weaker and weaker - Lax and Hockey. We're also seeby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Time for a New Arena thread - 9 years ago
I'm an '07 and '10 Law School grad and at the ripe old age of 30 it cracks me up to hear people talk about what is and what is not expensive for a student. $200 isn't that much to me at 30, but it was a lot to me at 19 or 20. Make people go through the line process again, but then give the tickets away for free (or nearly free, e.g. $50 for a season) and you'll get the attendance to rise. There'sby CUontheslopes - Hockey

Wait. This is a real thread? You have to be kidding me. After reading through this, I feel like anyone who wants to have Lynah torn down should have their logins deleted. I haven't posted in this forum for 7 years, but read it to see what's going on with the program. The nonsense spouted above made me go back and find my password. Seriously? ugarte billhoward There's the ribbon twirling gymnastics event that remains. The sport that will live forever is women's beach volleyball. Rythmic gymnastics is part of the larger umbrella of "gymnastics" - it isn't up for debate. And, honestly, it is impressive as shit to watch but for the fact that the girls are so young that it feels creepy. It's boring as hell to watch and a joke.by CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Cressler seems to be that Whittman-like pure shooter that the team has been missing since Ryan left. Courtney was quoted as saying that earlier in the week in practice he went 11-12.by CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse April 2012 - 12 years ago
Win and in. Agreed, but to be even talking about possibly not making the tournament when the team has only one loss, in OT to UVA I think is the frustrating part of the conversation. The same is often true for Cornell hockey - if you look, this year we may not have had a ton of wins, but we sure didn't have too many losses either. The knock for years on NCAA lacrosse seeding is that it's too hby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

KeithK Jim Hyla Here's the NCAA letter to UND spelling out it's punishment. I love the reference to hostile or abusive racial/ethnic/national original references". There's no way that the Sioux name and logo can be reasonably construed as "hostile or abusive". At least in a world where Florida State's logo is acceptable. Conte's - best pizza around, just get there early since it's very popular on basketball and hockey game nights. Even if there's a long line though, they take your pizza order while you're waiting so when you sit down you eat. The beer's cold while you wait.by CUontheslopes - Hockey

Re: Kevin Boothe - 12 years ago
KeithK CUontheslopes The coaches actually think he's quite a good NFL lineman. He's incredibly valuable because he can play all 5 positions. He has done so this year with little to no notice and done fairly well. Watching the game last night it was a bit painful to see him at center, though. As others have mentioned, his best fit is at guard. So he's essentially a utility guy. Not someone you idby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Re: Jersey Mockups - 12 years ago
It's not ugly, but I think many people here are biased, blinded if you will, by what the jersey stands for and not what it looks like. It's sharp, I agree, but to most outsiders, even those who love traditional jerseys, it's nothing special. I fall into that category. Even as a diehard fan, I think it's what's behind the jersey and not the jersey itself that's particularly special. Some exampby CUontheslopes - Hockey
Re: Jersey Mockups - 12 years ago
I'm frankly surprised that everyone jumped on the person who started the thread. It's certainly a valid suggestion, even if I did not like the particularly jersey, which btw looks a lot like the CU roller hockey jerseys. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with a little change to the jersey. In fact, a little change all around isn't a bad thing. ugarte CUontheslopes I'm sorry but there's nothing subjective about it. Fighting is not racist in any way, shape or form. It's not like they're calling them the "Redskins" or, as someone else pointed out, using a caricature like Chief Wahoo. Fighting Sioux is no more offensive than Fighting New Yorkers. Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
billhoward Yes, when the band splits up and plays from different sections, there is an element of "hey, look at me, I'm showing off." Still, it's entertaining. It's annoying, distracting and self-absorbed. No one but the band (or perhaps some of you band alums) likes it. I'd take 1,000 clap meters before I had to hear annoying blare of trumpets serenading each other across the stadiuby CUontheslopes - Other Sports

Scersk '97 CUontheslopes And as for the "bad," well there are some people (read: kids) who like that and if it puts a few more people in the stands, then just avert your eyes when it comes on - simple enough. Actually, if it were just visual pollution, I wouldn't care so much. It's the noise. Re: Cornell-Yale football - 12 years ago
Great report. Agreed on how some of the Ivy stadia are holding up, but sadder still is how empty they are. It's truly depressing to see a great stadium like the Yale Bowl empty. At least for Harvard/Yale it gets a good crowd. Still...just pathetic how far Ivy League football is fallen. I say go 1-A, play 7 ivy games and 1 or 2 against other FBS schools, one against an FCS school. Just being FBS (by CUontheslopes - Other Sports
Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
Scersk '97 CornellChris To your point though, they did use the scoreboard to flash "player cards" with student-athlete pictures and pertinent info. I think we can both agree that this, at least, is an appropriate use of the technology. Yes. Re: Schoellkopf Field to get new video scoreboard - 12 years ago
Scersk '97 Strongly, strongly disagree. The scoreboard, as currently controlled, detracts from the gameday experience by presenting a loud, annoying sideshow of crap, including the "kiss cam," Clarkson-style clapping hands, and everything else that makes me puke. If they could keep it to replays and information on the players, I'd have no problem with it. And commercials? Fuck mby CUontheslopes - Other Sports
