Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Women's NCAA QF vs Norteastern - 5 years ago
One of the most amazing things about Frechette's overtime gamewinner is that her first collegiate goal was just a month earlier. She now has seven. Her timing is pretty good.by mha - Hockey
10th century skating at Lynah - 5 years ago
A friend tried out his 10th century embroidered turnshoes and whitetail deer bone ice skates during public skate at Lynah, and you can watch the video!by mha - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 7 years ago
I see Jim's not going, though at this point I probably won't have a chance to buy Snickers. Sorry, Band! Who IS going? Any good pre-game plans that Age and I could join? As a member of the Traveling Faithful who regularly went to John Harvard's before and/or after the game for many years, I'm not a fan of the CCOB taking over the whole venue and charging $25 for admission.by mha - Hockey
Re: Looking for Byron Bitz pictures (2006/07) - 8 years ago
Not what you were looking for, but... I'll look through my Flickr photos later. I don't think I was tagging individual players much at that point, but I do have a lot of hockey photos!by mha - Hockey

ACM Any relation to Daniel Pegoraro? April Fool! Err, thanks.by mha - Hockey
Racker Rivals Big Red exhibition game this Saturday - 10 years ago
There's quite a lineup of Cornell hockey alums, current players, coaches, and community members playing this Saturday night at Lynah to raise money for the Franziska Racker Centers! Topher and Emma Scott really seem to be the big organizers behind the event, but they've put together a heck of a game. Joe Nieuwendyk and Mike Richter are the marquis names, but a lot of us will recognize Cornellby mha - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 10 years ago
I think the novelty and nostalgia factors of Lake Placid are very real but very finite, and I disagree that players born in the '90s wouldn't feel that attraction. These are hockey players we're talking about, and these are two legendary hockey venues in one spot. But I do feel the novelty is limited, perhaps as much as the novelty of playing at Madison Square Garden. Playing there once was aby mha - Hockey
Re: ECACs Lake Placid roll call 2014 - 10 years ago
Can't wait to see you all there! I do know the Pep Band is heading up, as well, leaving at 8:30 tomorrow morning. Does the 1932 arena still offer ice skating? I've been trying to find out if the Lions Club still has their annual pancake breakfast around this time, but the most relevant search result I've found is me talking about it on LiveJournal a few years ago. Dropped them an e-mail. Weby mha - Hockey
1/10 game vs Massachusetts delayed to 7:30pm - 10 years ago
Cornell says a compressor failure at Lynah Rink has made them push back the start time for tonight to 7:30pm. They say they expect the repairs to be done by early afternoon, and I say it's too bad it's suddenly thirty degrees warmer in Ithaca! Bad timing.by mha - Hockey
Re: Heading to the North Country - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla You're sure it's open? It shows on Google maps, but when I ask for directions to Canton, they still push me thru 342 and they won't let me change it to the new interstate. Mapquest still goes thru W'town, but will let me change it to I-781. They say it's slower however. Positive, Jim! I just drove it yesterday. I'm sure it doesn't save a huge amount of time, but it does bypass some sby mha - Hockey
Re: Heading to the North Country - 11 years ago
Weder Chris '03 That's interesting, because the men's basketball team at Akron had a similar idea rejected by the NCAA. Yup. It's been quite a topic of discussion up here. Turns out Akron ran afoul of a rule that applies only to basketball. The hoops rulebook has specific restrictions on what can be on the jersey that the hockey rulebook simply doesn't have. SLU has NCAA approval for the planby mha - Hockey
Re: Heading to the North Country - 11 years ago
Chris '03 Are they giving you a twitter jersey for your efforts? I thought about asking for some Saints garb, but much as I like free swag, I can't imagine a situation in which I'd actually wear it. I guess maybe I'd wear SLU gear during the Saints vs Clarkson women's game.by mha - Hockey
Re: Heading to the North Country - 11 years ago
billhoward Social media for athletes. What ever could go wrong with that combo? Yeah, that's pretty much the point.by mha - Hockey
Heading to the North Country - 11 years ago
I was planning on skipping the North Country trip this year, but a friend at St. Lawrence's university communications office has booked me as a guest speaker during their big focus on social media for student athletes this week, and the timing is perfect! Anyone want to split the hotel room? Second bed is up for grabs.by mha - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four Hotel Tip - 11 years ago
Beeeej dss28 and I now have a room. And now, so do I, though I may poke around for cheaper options between now and then.by mha - Hockey

I hope everyone's bringing our buddy Bob Gaudet some Lynah love tonight...by mha - Hockey

bnr24 Why wasn't Schafer coaching, by the way? I noticed that the absurd announcers said it, but didn't know why. Coach Schafer told us last week he was taking the night off to go up to Ontario for his niece's wedding. It was the first time he's voluntarily missed a game as head coach. I recall he missed one on an away weekend following an injury, and had been suspended for at least one.by mha - Hockey
Re: North Country road trip roll call - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla If I don't go can you throw? When will you be leaving? That is, how late can I tell you to buy Snickers? You bet. I'll probably get an early start and leave late morning tomorrow, but I should be able to hit a drug store or whatever late afternoon if you text me.by mha - Hockey
North Country road trip roll call - 12 years ago
The team's been gaining momentum and looking solid, even in the third period. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend of hockey. Anyone want a ride up and back from Ithaca? I've also got space in a luxurious Canton hotel room to share.by mha - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd/Dartmouth Roll Call - 12 years ago
I'll be at Harvard and Dartmouth. We've done really well at Molly's in Hanover pregame the last couple of years. Good food and good beer, and frequently a significant Cornell contingent that gets to chuckle at this sign. Is anyone likely to be hanging around Hanover after the game? If not, I'm going to lean toward heading for Albany to get partway home, and getting a hotel room there, ratherby mha - Hockey
Re: $11 tickets for the ECAC semis and finals in 2012 - 12 years ago
Josh '99 I mean, even if today were March 13, 2012, and we knew that Cornell would be playing, how many of us would be buying 11 tickets at a time? Just Beeeej and me, I guess!by mha - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros: October 2011 - 12 years ago
sah67 With James Reimer injured, Ben Scrivens has been recalled by the Maple Leafs and will back up Jonas Gustavsson in net tonight against Philadelphia. Just saw that thanks to Twitter! Someone commented on Twitter the other night that between injuries and iffy performances from Toronto's goaltending crew, they wouldn't be surprised to see Ben called up again soon. If Jonas looks shakyby mha - Hockey
Re: The Devins - 13 years ago
ajh258Wow! That's real commitment! Kudos to the Devins! And also to their parents, who periodically grumble good-naturedly about the bills.by mha - Hockey

Leaving Atlantic City by 6am Sunday sounds sufficiently painful that it's unlikely I'd pull it off, but it's still an option in the back of my head.by mha - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City hotels - 13 years ago
Jim Hyla I love that the ECAC office is still in Albany. Good enough for them, not for us. Not just still in Albany, but still in the Times Union Center building. Anyway, for what it's worth, I've grabbed three rooms at the Trump Plaza after seeing Ed's new list. I don't think that list was meant to hit the public, just ECAC media contacts and player parents, but I'm not complaining. Thatby mha - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City hotels - 13 years ago
rones Big time Hotel Score: Just used priceline.com. Selected the region of AC where the game is, selected 3.5 star propteries, and was sucessful at bidding 165.00 per night...Give it a shot. I ended up here . Sheraton Atlantic City I actually took a look at Priceline for Atlantic City several days ago, but decided the region they might put you in was just too big to take the chance. Re: Atlantic City hotels - 13 years ago
Even if Atlantic City doesn't get your hotel dollars because you're staying outside town, they'll get your parking dollars and at least some of your food dollars. It seems possible that some of the ECAC room blocks at the hotels will end up with extra rooms as fans from teams that didn't make it cancel their reservations, but it's also possible that those cancellations will put the rooms backby mha - Hockey
