Re: NCAA regionals in Springfield - Yesterday
Jeff Hopkins '82 Greenberg '97 dbilmes The arena website says the parking garage is closed due to construction, so I'm sure parking is going to be fun. Everything I'm reading online says you can park for free at the MGM Springfield, which is an 8 minute walk from the arena. I make no promises, but this is the approach I plan on taking. some pages say parking is free for guests. Others sayby dbilmes - Hockey

arugula Any thoughts about tickets? Goi g through the venue-the seating chart is offering g hardly anything and every time I check, the sections change. The Cornell link requires buying both games. I can’t make Saturday. Any idea what’s going on with the venue?or if the package requirement will go away? I just recall regionals in Albany which were empty so kinda surprised. I just bought tickets in Section 2 in the upper level. They're not great seats, but hopefully after the first game most of the UMass fans will leave, especially if their team loses, and we'll be able to move down to better seats. NCAA regionals in Springfield - 4 days ago
I thought I'd start a separate thread for this. Since a lot of us will be looking to buy tickets, hopefully people will share information as it becomes available. If I recall correctly from past years, the official tickets being sold by Cornell might be for both the Thursday and Saturday games. Hopefully, it won't be too difficult to just buy tickets for the Thursday games.by dbilmes - Hockey

BearLover When asked in the postgame interview what the message was coming out for the third, Walsh said that they “were just doing it for a lot of the guys leaving, especially the younger guys.” Huh? I took it to mean he meant the younger players were especially trying to win this for the older players. If he had a chance to answer again, he would probably give a more coherent answer.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 6 days ago
One thing about St. Lawrence is they have a ton of seniors on their squad. I was at Appleton for Senior Night and there were about a dozen seniors being honored before the game. That experience has to be a plus in the postseason.by dbilmes - Hockey

billhoward Let's see how long #13 Yale holds on versus #4 Auburn, Friday, 4:15 pm. Consider this understatement insight: Fox61 TV Yale Men’s Basketball travels to Spokane to face the No. 4 seed Auburn in the Round of 64 Down six with 22 seconds left, Yale beat the odds and the buzzer against Brown to win the Ivy League, but the Bulldogs face steeper competition against Auburn. Let's hope Cornell can get back on track today against Princeton. I went to the Yale-Harvard game yesterday and both of those teams are going be tough as well. Yale scored 10 seconds into the game and was up 13-6 at the half. Yale's No. 37 won nearly every faceoff, and Yale seemed to be scoring at will. Harvard made a comeback in the second half, twice cutting the Yale lead to two goals and haviby dbilmes - Other Sports

I was wondering which game Vanini was watching. The last half of the second period was dominated by Harvard, and he kept saying what a great game Cornell was playing.by dbilmes - Hockey

Stonehill is only in its second year as a DI program. At one point this season, both of their goalies were injured and a defenseman had to play goal.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoffs 2024 - 18 days ago
Reducing the first round of the ECAC playoffs to a one-and-done certainly increases the odds of an upset. Since I'm too lazy to look this up myself, how many times has the No. 12 seed knocked off the No. 5 seed since the ECAC expanded the playoffs to all 12 teams? I'm assuming it's not that common an occurrence.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 19 days ago
Watching the RPI-Clarkson game reminds me of something I noticed when I watched Cornell play up there a few weeks ago. There was no real visitor's penalty box in Cheel Arena. They just opened up the door which led to the visiting team's locker room and the visiting player who was penalized had to stand there until he was released from the penalty box. However, it now looks like they have put a beby dbilmes - Hockey

Re: Women 2023-24 - 20 days ago
Weder Colgate wins 5-1. Cornell was pretty much locked into the No. 6 spot in the Pairwise, so there is a pretty good chance they’re going to be back in Hamilton next week for a first-round NCAA game, with the winner playing Colgate. If that's the case, and we get by our first-round game, no one beats Cornell four times in a season!by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: New athletic director Nicki Moore - 27 days ago
Local Motion So far I have been very impressed by Nicki Moore and she has a bright future on the East Hill. The Cornell AD position is a great job at a major university without the overwhelming pressure of a Power 5 Conference. Ithaca is a beautiful college town and nice for families, so we hope she is enjoying her job at Cornell. Go Big Red! You can tell she is doing a good job because sheby dbilmes - Other Sports

dag14 marty ugarte Posting the game thread early to note that the womens' QF is pushing the start time for the Union game back to 7:30. Is there an admission fee for the women? I'm wondering if I might be able to arrive early enough to see that quarterfinal. At least for this round, women's playoff tickets are $5.00. Cornell captures all the major awards for All-Ivy honors. Derraugh is Coach of the Year for the 5th time. Daniel is Player of the Year. Bergmann is Rookie of the Year. And more! Considering that Cornell was 9-1 in Ivy play, outscoring its opponents 53-16, the honors weren't a surprise. But even so, it's nice to see the program get the well-deserved recognition.by dbilmes - Hockey
Webinar on Cornell lacrosse dynasty - 29 days ago
In case you haven't received an email about this yet, I will be moderating a webinar on the Cornell lacrosse dynasty of the 1970s. We have three players from that era participating, along with Christian Swezy, who wrote the book "We Showed Baltimore: The Lacrosse Revolution of the 1970s and Richie Moran's Big Red." The webinar will be Tuesday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m. This contains moreby dbilmes - Other Sports

ugarte dbilmes arugula Just read/skimmed a very loong ESPN article about college coaches coming and going. Earl and Cornell not mentioned. Mitch Henderson and James Jones both noted as possibly moving on. Slightly insulted, but pleased if true. Jones is 60, and has been the coach at Yale since 1999. Re: Womens Basketball - 5 weeks ago
mountainred scoop85 dbilmes The saddest thing about the women's basketball program is that due to years of mediocrity, there is no fan base and no excitement about the program. The official attendance for their home loss to Yale on Saturday was 183. It can't help recruiting efforts if potential players watch a game either in person or on TV and see it being played before such a small crowd. Corneby dbilmes - Other Sports
