marty BearLover Pghas My understanding is that Wishart is headed to play at Middlebury. Such a difficult thing to predict who will develop and how. Guys who lit it up in juniors sometimes get to college and are a little fried and maybe don't push as much as they once did. Or maybe they hit a ceiling while other kids really do not. I have a son who is a good player and what they tell you isby Pghas - Hockey

Was a helluva run. Castagna and Walsh are going to be huge for us for the next 3 years and give us some of the offensive punch and skill that we so desperately need ( and have needed for years) in games like this. 10 freshmen and this is just the beginning.by Pghas - Hockey
Re: NCAA QF - Denver - 5 weeks ago
I mean that is nuts. That should never be a call at this point in this game. Whistles in your pockets. Just terrible.by Pghas - Hockey

Did you guys know that Jack O’Leary is a fan favorite at Lynah? So much so that they even refer to him as fan favorite Jack O’Leary? Phenomenal shutdown game last night. I went to the last 4 games at Lynah and have watched these last 3 and really since the third period against Dartmouth they are playing as well as I’ve seen them. Let’s see how long it continues but that’s the most importantby Pghas - Hockey

pjd8 BearLover RichH BearLover I’ll get yelled at for saying this, but…turns out having five draft picks in your freshman class (maybe six, if Robertson gets picked this year) is a good thing. And, in another one of BearLover’s Classic Takes, the conference being weak this year helped us too…to win a championship, the teams we had to beat were ranked 50th, 29th, and 43rd in the PWR… Ah, but theby Pghas - Hockey

Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 6 weeks ago
Meh, who needs all the bells and whistles? We get to cheer for a college hockey team that is nationally ranked on a consistent basis. There are Ivy League schools who don’t have hockey or lacrosse teams and therefore are never relevant on a national level athletically ( I went to one as an undergraduate ). Lake Placid is what it is. It’s a destination because of its incredible history with resby Pghas - Hockey

Dafatone I'm struggling to remember the last game I watched with such bad camera work. Never. It’s awful.by Pghas - Hockey
Re: ECAC Semifinal - Dartmouth - 6 weeks ago
Big Dingus Why does every game we play in big games (BU two years ago, last year Harvard, etc.) always feel the same where we just don’t have that killer instinct and it’s a slog of a game Cornell is always built from the goal out. Generally teams that can really skate and have some skill give us fits. Been going on for 20 years. Not an effort thing. I think this year we do have some freshmby Pghas - Hockey
Re: What happened to PWR this year? - 7 weeks ago
upprdeck The issue isnt how the league played. The question is why were RPIs as whole so much higher that at good one didnt get us in already. Is it a function of parity Is it a function of teams getting more quality win bonus You're correct, but since this is a down year in the ECAC, parity exists at the expense of the QWB. If you play in a weaker overall division you have to win that divby Pghas - Hockey
Re: What happened to PWR this year? - 7 weeks ago
upprdeck This isn't so much about the ECAC doing poorly. It's about so many teams have such a higher RPI that something that hasn't happened in 20 yrs. is the reason Cornell has to win to get in. It’s really all relative though. The ECAC is super weak this year. The next team after Cornell is Dartmouth and they are 30. The other teams start to slot in around the mid 30s. Last year Quinnipiaby Pghas - Hockey

We seem to be bouncing back and forth between threads a bit here…hope this is the right one. Had the opportunity last night to watch Gio DeGiulian play. He’s going to be a great player for us. Wheels, wheels, wheels and great hands. Not sure if he is playing juniors after Kent or maybe just comes straight to Cornell? Anyway, he was the best player on the ice ( I thought). And man founders’by Pghas - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - 3 months ago
BearLover Pghas I dont know the answer to this 100% but remember one of the Cornell coaches at some point saying that commits are admitted students who then use their deferral to go play juniors. So does that mean that kids who get de-committed still matriculate at Cornell? I know of at least a couple instances where a player who was at one point recruited for the Cornell hockey team ended up maby Pghas - Hockey

update on Tyler Wishart - back from injury and seems to be hitting his stride - 4 points in 2 games over the weekend, primary helper on OT winner, player of the game, and now 7 pts in 8 games. Charlie Major (from Skaneatlas aka Skinny atlas) also having a solid year for the Chicago Steel w 13 points in 18 games.by Pghas - Hockey
Re: CU-BU 2023 - 5 months ago
Was also lucky enough to attend Saturday night. What a game!! In terms of comparing the teams, I think from what I saw, BU has much better overall team speed and with it, skill than Cornell does. He didnt put up any points, but Mack Celebrini while only 17 is the consensus #1 overall NHL draft pick next year. Lane Hutson was a second round pick for the Canadiens. BU grabs an awful lot of kiby Pghas - Hockey

Re: 2023 NCAA QF: Cornell vs BU - 1 year ago
dbilmes In the big games late in the season, our lack of elite offensive talent showed up. We were shut out in 8 of the last 10 periods we played. Perhaps we would have done better if Steinburg had time to work himself back into the lineup. Our power-play also fizzled once the post-season began. We didn't have any 5-minute majors against Union to get it back on track. Agreed. We don’t have a cby Pghas - Hockey

I read the Daily Sun's coverage and they had plenty of quotes from Coach Schaefer - in fact that was the only place I found any quotes after the Harvard loss or for today's game, which I hope is not the last one of the year.by Pghas - Hockey
Re: 2022 Incoming Recruits - 1 year ago
We are generally an exceptionally well coached team whose defensive style and reliance on elite goaltending makes us more akin to a 1990s New Jersey Devils team than anything else. I think that’s fine. I think that it may turn off some of the more elite offensive prospects, which may hurt us. But I think the years when we do you have elite offensive players, like Morgan Barron, we are a much biggby Pghas - Hockey
Re: 2023 ECAC Post Season - 1 year ago
It just seems we so rarely have the elite skill guys who can make a great offensive play when we need it. Like, forever. I don’t know if he doesn’t recruit that way or those kids don’t come here because they think we’re the 1995 New Jersey Devils. Still seems likely we make the tournament anyway and maybe make some noise there. And Lynah sure was a blast last weekend!by Pghas - Hockey

Dafatone Pghas upprdeck this is why you root for Quin. we had 6 things that could happen to get in after this game we are down to 3 and one requires St cloud to win twice. Yes but isn’t one of them Colgate losing even tomorrow night? If we win tonight but lose to Colgate are we out? Always so hard to know but that one weekend where we lost both a few weeks back could haunt us Yeah, we'd beby Pghas - Hockey

ugarte French Rage Trotsky Current commitments. Potomac Falls?A Nanaimo player from Pound Ridge, NY? yep. Tyler is from Pound Ridge - played for John Jay HS, Westchester Express, then was leading scorer at Kimball Union last year. Great player. Aidan Cobb also no longer committed.by Pghas - Hockey
