Re: Ertel to OHL - 10 days ago
BearLover I was not following the team during the year Romano was here, but Ertel was more a power forward than a skill guy. Though he put up unimpressive freshman numbers, Ertel was only 18, and the team as a whole struggled offensively. I think it’s likely he would have developed into a very good player. This is a bad loss given we could have gotten up to three more years from him. It negativelby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 5 weeks ago
BearLover In particular, Seger has put up strong numbers on some bad Union teams. Based on his size (6’4), he could be more of a power forward. 3rd in scoring last year; 2nd in scoring his freshman year. Perhaps more importantly, he's clearly not the defensive problem on those bad Union teams. Big kid that can score and play defense, and who will likely be around for two years? RichH BearLover arugula blackwidow Bye bye Ben Forgive my ignorance, but to be clear, this means that Ben graduated in three years? Zach will be back? I understand Ben was ILR, those would be tough credits to transfer, so he must have graduated. Ben says in the tweet he is graduating. To my knowledge Zach has given no public indication he is going anywhere. The only other Cornell player in tby Scersk '97 - Hockey

French Rage Even if Q is good, I don't really, like, care about them. I don't care how their fans, if they exist, care about beating us. Given that, I'd have to place Colgate at #3 because at least they derive some pleasure out of beating us, so I want to deprive them of that, in the way they were deprived of joy when college acceptances came and they had to live with the fact that the best theby Scersk '97 - Hockey

upprdeck we started the season in April now we start 2 months earlier. thats why the weather sucks.. we finish 1971 may 18th then had the tourney and ended in June.. Not being into lacrosse history nearly as much as hockey history, when/why did this change? Nothing wrong with hanging around campus into June, that's for sure.by Scersk '97 - Other Sports

RichH Trotsky I have no idea whether Noel sucks but he has managed to keep Schafer at Cornell all these years. I'm sure there have been poachers. I think I’ve established my theory that the absolute last thing he likes to do is a coaching search. I can think of one time (Lax) where he’s actually fired any coach. Usually coaches leave on their own, and he just promotes from within. (This can beby Scersk '97 - Other Sports

David Harding Scersk '97 marty Au contraire, Andy will have a lot of free time as AD emeritus or whatever he's going to be called. Just have him make the asks. His track football record speaks for itself. This wholly eLynah style of acid puts a spring in my step. He might be willing to wrestle with the problem. billhoward Scersk '97 John Doerr has absolutely no connection to Cornell that I can ascertain, just in case anyone was wondering. Nor with Stanford: Rice bachlors (ca. '73) and masters in engineering, Harvard MBA. His entire adult life has been in Silicon Valley, though. This is the second biggest university donation: Michael Bloomberg, Hopkins, $1.8B; Doerr, Stanford, $1.1B; .... Cornell, Chuckby Scersk '97 - John Spencer Is Dead

mike1960 dag14 Howie lives and works in NYC so if his color commentary is missing at a game, it means he couldn't make the trip. Tom Lafalce -- a Cornell employee who also does a great job -- is the other regular color guy. He was at Colgate I believe. Did LaFalce play at Colgate? George64 Scersk '97One of my many concerns regarding the Roosevelt Island project is whether it will cause a brain drain in science and engineering from the Ithaca campus to the great detriment of the University. Frankly, a Cornell without engineers rubbing shoulders with hotelies, architects (even the misled ones), etc., etc. is not Cornell. To the contrary, Cornell is making a huge capital iby Scersk '97 - John Spencer Is Dead

jtwcornell91 FWIW, my beef with Q is not that they're trying to be a jock factory, but most decisions the school has made in the last couple of decades, including moving up the hockey program to D1, have been marketing ploys. (E.g., they have a polling center because they realized that every time someone says "Quinnipiac poll", the school's name is mentioned in the media.) Quinnipiacby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Trotsky Too bad Harvard lost, but they are consistent, I'll say that. ALLSTON'S PRIDE ON THE LINKS! We distinctly disagree on the first part of your comment. I made my peace with Union and Yale winning championships; that peace is unavailable in the event that QU wins or Harvard wins another. When, hopefully soon, both of them are gone from the national tournament, my mind can be at ease. Anby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 3 months ago
BearLover You may well be right about all of the above. But my point is less about Harvard’s current roster and more about the direction the program has trended. Yes, Harvard has always gotten the best talent in the ECAC. But this year’s 12 draft picks is the most in Harvard history. They would have had even more if not for COVID. Cornell, meanwhile, has 4. And judging from the recruits in the piby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 3 months ago
Swampy BearLover Scersk '97 And, after next year, I predict we will be discussing the significant and immediate diaspora from Cambridge. Our current sophomores and freshmen, however talented, will not be leaving. The thing about Harvard is that even the elite players tend to stay in school 3 or 4 years. The players already self-selected to care about their education when they chose the school,by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 3 months ago
scoop85 BearLover Harvard lapping the ECAC in recruiting has come home to roost. Frankly, had last season not been canceled, the 2020-21 Harvard team may been the most talented team in ECAC history post-split with Hockey East. Players who went pro when last season was canceled included Jack Drury, Jack Badini, Jack Rathbone (yes, triple Jack), and Reilly Walsh. Matty Beniers decommitted and wentby Scersk '97 - Hockey

Son is in championship game tomorrow, which is all that really matters. I can't. I may hate QU, but eventually they'll leave. One can only hope. Re: 2022 Takeaways - Root for any ECAC-in-NCAAs team - 3 months ago
scoop85 ursusminor Nate McDonald has entered the transfer portal. No surprise he’s want to use that extra year of eligibility. We're likely to see quite a few of next year's seniors doing the same (after next year's season) because of the Ivy League's idiotic treatment of those robbed of a season by COVID, never mind the typical prohibition against grad athletes. Just a mess.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: 2022 Takeaways - longest ECAC drought - 3 months ago
gored Agree. Harvard's team in 1989 was outstanding and they still needed some luck to win it. Yale was incredibly lucky to win in 2013 (yes, they were good, but def not the best team in the nation or even the ECAC that year). We just haven't had the lucky breaks. Indeed, I think we recently had the unluckiest break of all. I am not overwhelmingly superstitious; I don’t believe in karma, whatby Scersk '97 - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid roll call - 3 months ago
Word in LP today was that public skating on the Oval is on for (Tuesday) tomorrow, but the rest of the week is up in the air due to weather. The new refrigeration system should allow them to extend the season, and I think the urge is there to have it open during ECACs, unlike in years past when it seemed no one could be bothered.by Scersk '97 - Hockey
