Re: Cornell Lacrosse legacy started before Richie Moran - 21 days ago
billhoward St. Lawrence has a beautiful old 2000 seat arena but with a big video scoreboard and an addition providing big and modern facilities, again for men and women, of importance because St. Lawrence women have outperformed the men in recent years. “Big video scoreboard” should be banned in buildings like Lynah and Appleton. Completely glaring, ruining the light & atmosphere, not to mby RichH - Other Sports

Chris '03 billhoward …. Quinnipiac … Sacred Heart…great places to watch hockey and sometimes I think that trumps the Lynah atmosphere False. I don’t want ECHL and jock jams and “run of show” video board nonsense. The atmosphere at SHU was like Q nonsense on steroids. It's what you get when you design facilities for old donors rather than the students who attend. Sorry, bill.by RichH - Other Sports

upprdeck So if rooms were $150 a night people would be fine with the cost but $300 is too much? I get a 7 day vacation it adding up but to quibble about $150 for 2 day thing? Staying in Toledo was about $250 for the hockey NCAA. If one were a student?by RichH - Hockey

KenP Was it ever confirmed is CJ was playing with a broken hand and a pulled hamstring? And if yes, (seriously) how is it possible that he could play and perform at the level he did? After seeing a passing reference to surgery and him being placed on the PLL injured list, I found this: Kirst played through a right hand injury for most of his senior season at Cornell. “I broke my handby RichH - Other Sports

Good feature in the alumni magazine. Good photo of the crescent filled in the 1970s and of the 1893 team. Intercollegiate hockey didn’t even exist in the U.S. until 1896 (1901 at Cornell) yet the first CU lacrosse club was formed in 1887!!by RichH - Other Sports

mike1960 I’ve been listening to podcasts about championship weekend, and almost universally, commentators have been happy for the Cornell win. Part of the reason is the length of time between championships. Another is the culture and tradition of the program. Also, players they’ve interviewed have given thoughtful and respectful answers to questions. It’s been very satisfying to hear how the progby RichH - Other Sports

stereax Also, any idea which side we shoot twice on? Squinting at ticketmaster and if it's $60 for the 200s and $85 for the 100s... An hour before the Nov 2023 game I bought a ticket on the glass. It won’t sell out after so many. The ushers are mostly uncaring where you sit/wander. CU77 Complete video of the final from NCAA championships, free of ESPN chyrons: All time keeper. Can we also remove the way the announcer adds extra syllable to words ending with a consonant sound? Game-muh. Off the netting-guh.by RichH - Other Sports

We put up a bear statue outside of Teagle, but somewhere there should statue or bust of Ned. As the glow of CU football national relevance was rapidly fading, the fact that one guy rocket-fueled *two* varsity programs to establish traditions of greatness for (at least) 60 years is pretty astounding.by RichH - Other Sports

stereax Also disputing Cournoyer as the favorite. I think Keopple is the favorite, Cournoyer is either 2 or 3 in line depending how the team views Katz. Though I expect to see Cournoyer given the opportunity to seize the net at some point. It's possible they pulled him here with the idea that he'd work at the NCAA level this year and become the starter next year. Not sure if Roest is anything morby RichH - Hockey
Re: New assistant coach - 4 weeks ago
scoop85 stereax Weder Chris Brown, previously the associate head coach at Alaska Fairbanks, has joined the coaching staff: Anyone know anything about him? The bio in the announcement is pretty comprehensive. One issue I see is that he's never coached at an elite academic school, so there will be a learning curve in recruiting the type of player we look for. But I'm confident Casey and Flanaganby RichH - Hockey

Swampy Tonight's Tewaaraton Award ceremony starts at 6 PM at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Cornell's C.J. Kirst is the overwhelming favorite. Interestingly, the website says this is The Year of the Cayuga! How fitting! Wait, WHAT?! That’s just up the street. Hmmm <clicks on link> tickets are $268 each for GA. So great to see both of these memorable moments again! Thanks very much. I was at the Albany game and remember watching the Syracuse game live. Just to show how unreliable memory was, I had it in my head that this trail check happened near the end of regulation and led to a goal forcing OT, but here it is plain as day that it was near the end of the OT period. I can still hear Howie’s usuby RichH - Other Sports

mike1960 Al DeFlorio mike1960 BearLover mike1960 I just re-watched the 4th quarter. MD kind of self destructed. Highly unusual for a Tillman team. 2 failed clears. An offsides. An offensive hold. That's four possessions lost when they desperately needed them. I would give Cornell more credit. All year long they’ve had an incredible ride and outlasted teams in the second half. Re: We will always be disappointed - 5 weeks ago
Weder JasonN95 toddlose semsox I saw in the athletics notes before the game that this would not only be the first Lacrosse title since 77, but the first team championship in any sport for Cornell since then. Bask in it, because it doesn't come around often That’s insane. But hasn’t polo won several times? They may be club team tho. CU77 He's extremely good. Back in 22, he had 17 saves against 7 goals for Cornell in the national championship game. They talked about how he’s from Corning, NY about 20 times. I was most likely living there when he was born. Hopefully we can solve him.by RichH - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Albany 5/11 - NCAA Lacrosse First Round - 6 weeks ago
Weder dag14 billhoward The rule about how many long sticks or wide nets applies to the whole field, not how many must be in the defensive half, so one more go on attack with a bigger stick isn't an infraction and anyway it's harder to shoot with long sticks or wide nets. IIRC, Albany circa 2100 (if not, then Stony Brook?) had a goalie so talented with stick-handling that on Albany man-ups, heby RichH - Other Sports

billhoward Oh, geez, yeah, wrestling. <headslap> That's the third team (men's) that proves the point: Cornell's better teams stay very good over the years. I did a quick scan: Hockey (men's) hasn't had many losing seasons going back to our departure from Beebe Lake. Losing teams in 2015, 2013, 1999, 1995, 1987, 1984, 1982, and most of the first half dozen years in Lynah. For lacrosby RichH - John Spencer Is Dead

Swampy Chris H82 I went back and forth for the last couple of days about traveling to Boston, and in the end I decided this might be the best chance to see the Big Red win a natty in my lifetime. So I've bought a plane ticket, and I got a ticket in Section 105 for Saturday's game - if we win that one, I'll figure out a ticket for Monday. Re: NCAA tournament: CU vs Richmond 5/19 - 6 weeks ago
That game was about as close to an analogy as you can get in lax to the Cornell-MSU matchup in hockey. A clear favorite with the best player in the country vs a defensive roadblock built to upset superior offensive juggernauts. It felt the playing surface was clearly tilted in one direction, yet there we were, trailing every quarter, and then finding ourselves in the last minute facing a situatioby RichH - Other Sports

upprdeck I think the fact that 24 times a team won the first 2 and 9 times lost the 3rd actually shows that it is hard to beat a team 3 times, But the real stat should be how many times did teams play 3 times and not win 3. It is an interesting question, sure. I do know that Princeton had 120 minutes of tape to study and see where they had the most success against us. They have motivation tby RichH - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Who to root for beyond Cornell - 6 weeks ago
If you’re referring to the lax tournament, I’m happy they lost because they posed one of the most serious threats to a Cornell championship. It’s hard enough to beat a team that talented twice in one season, I hated the prospect of seeing them a third time. Keeping the lax lenses on, they have been the most successful program in the league since Richie Moran’s last few years. Our best teams coby RichH - John Spencer Is Dead

jjanow99 Little to no production from the middies today. Kelleher had zero shots. Need more from them next week. Dalton. Dalton. Dalton, with the hat-trick was enormous. He and Goldstein are the reasons we're packing for the razor stadium. Ryan more than made up for being shut down last week, other than missing TWO empty cages. After watching the swarming defensive sets Richmond put out there, the Princeton and Syracuse defenses look quaint and puny. The goal pipes at Hofstra are getting hammered today. The best part of this game is that one of them has to lose.by RichH - Other Sports
