Re: Recruits 2024 and Beyond - Yesterday
Trotsky arugulaAh, ok. Folks have been talking about him as if he still had a draft year.I think he is typically mentioned as a blue chip free agent. The conversation here has largely sprung from an unknown past comment that he had another year of draft eligibility. I, for one, had been assuming that he was draft eligible based on that comment, subsequent conversation and my own customary lack ofby ugarte - Hockey

billhoward arugula ugarte nothing dumber than a post tournament poll yes, but I'm grasping Dumb would also be not doing the poll. Gives the voters a chance to seed differently from how the brackets turn out, to upvote somebody who was really good and ran into a buzzsaw early in the tournament. In another bracket, they might have gone further. Where would Denver have been seeded if one of those UMby ugarte - Hockey
Re: Wrestling 2024 Postseason - 4 days ago
George64 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team Trials begin on Friday, 4/19, and will be streamed on Peacock. Vito Arujau '24, expected to wrestle at 57kg has dropped out. He said that the cut from the 133 he wrestled in college (or the 61kg he last wrestled internationally) was exacerbating the injuries he's been dealing with all year. He is going to bypass the Olympics at 57kg and instead stick with 61kgby ugarte - Other Sports

BearLover Swampy arugula BearLover Laughing at teams like BC/BU/NoDak/Quinnipiac losing just doesn’t hit the same when they’ve won national championships recently. (BU fans might try to claim 15 years is a long time, but to a Cornell fan it’s definitely not.) At the same time, each brutal loss by Cornell feels extra crushing because it’s been so long since we’ve won at hockey or lacrosse (“our spby ugarte - Hockey

I like it. D3 Elite 8 in 2023 and a return to the tournament in 2024. Familiarity with recruiting in a high-academic-achievement environment.by ugarte - Other Sports

Swampy I also think there's a great sense of accomplishment working one's way off the bench and onto the ice. I'd like to think everyone that Schafer recruits has this ethos that the journey is the destination.i also think there's some self-awareness that if you can't earn your way into the starting lineup in college you may not be the next jonathan quick and you adjust your expectations.by ugarte - Hockey

Re: MBB: Jon Jaques - 12 days ago
Trotsky Does wrestling get crowds? I realize they are a dominant program, but are they popular?it sells out the friedman center and probably does a pretty good job of filling newman when they have a big dual meet.by ugarte - Other Sports

nshapiro billhoward nshapiro And I believe that winning the last two Ivy league games gets Cornell #1 seed in the tournament In a scenario where Penn and Cornell finish at 1 loss, everyone else has 2 losses, Cornell loses the H2H. Among the one-loss teams, Yale or Princeton will have one more loss on the final weekend (because they play each other). Ditto Penn or Princeton the weekend before, samby ugarte - Other Sports

chimpfood adamw chimpfood Basse is actually a great pick up for a school like Saint Lawrence. Seems like a weird choice on Basse’s part but who am I to judge. Basse was replaced as the No. 1 guy for St. Cloud in the last couple months of the season, by a freshman. He faced the prospect of playing very little next season at St. CloudIm not saying it was a wierd choice for him to leave but that iby ugarte - Hockey

marty Iceberg Jeff Hopkins '82 ugarte DOESN'T ANYONE WITH SCORING TOUCH WANT TO LEARN HOW TO RUN A MARRIOTT? Hockey players aren't hotelies. They're business majors. Scrivens was a hotelie, no? I'm sure there are quite a few others players who have been hotelies in the past 15 years. Ugarte attempts humor and rather than critique the joke it's all out war over whether the team is stacked wby ugarte - Hockey

George64 He played two years at Colorado College (41 games) and two years at St. Cloud State (44 games), isn’t his eligibility used up? I assume he’s a grad student, how much time does he get? Does the odometer turn back to zero?probably still a COVID bonus yearby ugarte - Hockey
Re: ECAC Early and Grad Departures 2024 - 15 days ago
upprdeck If they IVY is all about the degree you would think letting Grad students play would be a student first thing. Its really counter to what they stand for that kids would skip semesters can come back and play but kids who graduate can't.I think they probably have a pretty clear vision of the kind of graduate work that is required of 5th year athletes outside of the Ivies.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: ECAC Early and Grad Departures 2024 - 16 days ago
Give My Regards There is also something called a "medical redshirt" ... Ivies don't have the traditional redshirt, but the medical redshirt can be granted. Years ago, Vinnie Auger missed almost an entire season with the Big Red due to a back injury, but was permitted to play a season beyond what would have been considered his senior year. (And then he promptly got injured again, sigh)Mby ugarte - Hockey
Re: ECAC Early and Grad Departures 2024 - 16 days ago
George64 ugarte George64 My understanding of “red shirting” is that athletes matriculate, practice with their team for a year or two, but not play, but take some classes to ease their academic burden during their following four playing years. Hypothetically, could a non-Ivy athlete practice with his team for two years, but not compete, then play in his final two years, graduate on time, andby ugarte - Hockey

Swampy ugarte ER Ugh please don’t turn this into basketball. The number one reason I don’t watch it.if there are 10 seconds left in a game, there's time to score a goal. if there are 4 seconds left on a restart, maybe not so much? we're not talking about 30 minutes of real time to play 2 minutes of action. rss77 Check out the Daily Orange article-much better than the Sun's (Yes-Cornell on break, Newhouse school, etc.) but the Sun's sports coverage with the exception has been on the spare side this academic year. Not enough staff??You can quibble with how long it took to put out but i thought the Sun gamer was very good (unless what I'm referring to is the Athletic Department recap).by ugarte - Other Sports
