Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell 4 UNH 7 - 13 years ago
cayuga There was an interesting comment from Section O. "ooks like they stole BU's jersey" I'll see your jersey comment and raise you a "Shipping Off To Boston" from the pep band.by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Cornell 0 UNH 0 (pregame) - 13 years ago
UNH sold out their allotment of tickets pretty quickly (not sure how many they were given), was a bit surprised given the lone Friday night game and 7 hour drive. Think it may be our first game at Lynah since we left the ECAC (?). UNH likely has a little bit of an edge having already played a number of regular season games (split at Miami, tie against Michigan at home, tie at Northeastern) whileby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: UNH Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
p.s. feel free to come over and say hi, we had a great time with jtw & company in Florida a few years back, including members from each school's cheering section pulling double duty for the other on the 2nd day. We'll probably be up with our pep band in sec 205.by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: UNH Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
Expectations are not high in Wildcat country, the team coming to Albany this year bears no resemblance to the teams you've met in the past. There was a ton of parity in Hockey East this year (#3-#9 separated by 4 points) and UNH overachieved to beat out a much better Boston College squad for the Regular Season Title. UNH's last real good showing was 1/23 @ BU, from there it was a tight draw and wby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Say what - 16 years ago
martyRob, Are you talking about the Goofers? If so this would seem to imply parallel evolution. I thought that this theory was against a basic tenet concerning college hockey fandom. In fact there seems to be quite a body of evidence with regard to the lack of original ideas coming from the fans side of the glass - for some programs this actually seems to spill over to the ice (i.e. last yeby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Goofer goober madness - 16 years ago
KeithKI put the "as far as I can tell" in because for all I know the song has actual lyrics that no one happens to remember or use. So just to be safe... That would be "Rock and Roll Part I":by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Goofer goober madness - 16 years ago
KeithKThe song isn't about child molestation as far as I can tell. With only one word in the entire song ("Hey!", is the "as far as I can tell" really needed?by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Goofer goober madness - 16 years ago
This was part of their regular regiment of cheers for a while (usually done in the 3rd period, started by the band and continued acapella after the puck drops: chorus, "heey, heeeeeey, heeeeeeeey" back and forth bit, chorus again), then after the most recent child molestation charge against Gary Glitter the band dropped it for the last few seasons. Apparently they've picked it back up aby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Screw BU chant confusion - 16 years ago
jtwcornell91I have some vague memory of a story (told before previous Cornell-BU games) that the "Go BU" cheer had morphed into some sort of vulgar thing about BC, and the BU administration had forbidden them to play it. It went from "Go BU!" to "Go BU! Beat BC!" to "Go BU! Fuck BC!" and then "Go BU! Fuck BC, they suck dick!" before they fby Rob NH - Hockey

oceanst41Finally, abuse, assault, and rape - these are really serious. While there may not be proof in the post this is not the proper place to present it. More important than the player's involvement is that this is somebody else's life that we would be discussing. And likely a pretty traumatic part of their life. If those affected want to step forward and present the proof it will happen. Whilby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Cornell-UNH Postgame Thread - 17 years ago
ebilmesRob NHbut we def. could hear a loud ping noise from down in our end. It might have been your cowbell. You guys played it every 2 minutes. We had to make up for you guys forgetting yours.by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Cornell-UNH Postgame Thread - 17 years ago
ebilmesI thought the Bitz shot that "hit the post" was a goal. Not sure what angle the ref had, but the players were celebrating and the goal light went on. If it had hit the post, it would have made a clear sound. Definitely thought it was in the back of the net and bounced out. Was in the UHN corner and thought it hit the back of the net and popped out uncalled (see Cornell - Maine inby Rob NH - Hockey

billhoward... Unless it was the way cool Maine uniforms that swayed them? I hope you don't mean the ones they wore this weekend.by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Florida hockey classic (Estero) FAQ - 17 years ago
Was going through the Germain Arena FAQ and came acrossed this: "Noise-making Devices: No extraneous noise-making devices are permitted inside the Arena. These items include, but are not limited to: horns, whistles, air horns, cymbals, cow bells, bugles." Have they ever raised a stink about this before? UHNers have a cowbell cheer, too.by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Florida Hockey Classic (Estero) roll call - 17 years ago
ebilmesNot that it really matters, but it looks like the seats given to the Cornell ticket office this year are in the 114 corner. I think we'd been in the 118 corner for the past couple years. UHN is also having some sort of alumni reception at the rink, so maybe they'll be in the corner we usually have. The tickets I got off of my UNH buddies were in section 103. Presume they were bought thrby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Jersey - 17 years ago
KeithKTrotskyI suppose booing our own players as a protest is out?Shouldn't be hard to boo the jerseys without booing the players. "JERSEYS!"... "SUCK!!!!!' (assuming the COrnell ones do, of course. Ugly Jerseys *clap clap clap clap clap*by Rob NH - Hockey

ebilmesAvash '05UNH starting goaltender Kevin Regan is featured in Sports Illustrated's 'Faces in the Crowd' this week. The freshman goalie, Foster, hasn't given up a goal in 126 minutes of play. Any chance he'd get some action down in Florida? Doubtful, MAYBE if they get WMU the 2nd day. They'll probably have him start one of the Vermont games, maybe Providence, and then one night of the Merriby Rob NH - Hockey

Jacob 03I'm trying to finagle my way there. If someone has a cheap hotel to recommend that'd probably push my attendance into the "definite" column. Staying at the Crestwood Suites in Fort Myers, 89.99 a night, about 10 miles from the airport and 10 miles from the arena. Room on the floor available if you're that desperate.by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Florida Hockey Classic (Estero) roll call - 17 years ago
reilly83Actually, it is. And to tell the truth, I have a warm spot in my heart for UHN fans - when we aren't playing each other. We met some friendly, knowledgable UNH townies at a doughnut shop near the arena at the 2002 regionals in Worcester. Fond memories, despite the outcome of the second game. Well, like I posted on USCHO, try not to be too mean to the section of UNH students making theby Rob NH - Hockey

reilly83Am rooting for Cornell the first day, despite being a UNH season ticket holder (makes up for me cheering for UNH in Buffalo). No, it doesn't If it's any consolation, I was, and still am, on your side when it comes to the highstick decision in that game.by Rob NH - Hockey

Not definite yet, but highly likely. Am rooting for Cornell the first day, despite being a UNH season ticket holder (makes up for me cheering for UNH in Buffalo).by Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Florida hockey classic (Estero) FAQ - 17 years ago
JasonN95ebilmesYeah, the DJ plays "C-O-R-N-E double L," which was always surprising because the tournament director is a Cornell alum. As in year's past I will come to the defense of the FL tourney not playing Davy. First off, the "...double L" song is the new fight song for Cornell, so its at least a reasonable choice. Second, in an environment where there is a likelihood ofby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Florida hockey classic (Estero) FAQ - 17 years ago
ebilmesRob NHQ: Who is starting the push to get them to finally play "Davy" after goals this year? Seriously, it's about time... Won't we have a mini pep band there to play Davy? If not, then we definitely need to make sure Dacy is played. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in years past I believe they've relied on the DJ to play goal songs, and he tends to play the "C-O-R-N-E double Lby Rob NH - Hockey

Re: Dividing loyalties? - 18 years ago
Great question! I was raised a UNH (or UHN if you prefer) fan and have been a season ticket holder there for the last 7 years (though I've been a fan for much longer), and I got in to Cornell hockey before the Buffalo Frozen Four, the passion of the fans is what did me in. Thankfully the two haven't played each other since, but with the two squaring off in the Everblades next year I'm totally fucby Rob NH - Hockey
Re: Pepsi Arena - barely occupied for ECACs? - 18 years ago
billhowardYes, the old and new Boston Gardens were awesome places for hockey. Speak for yourself, the new "Garden" frankly sucks, the balcony is set waaaaay too far back, the one in the old Garden started 12 rows from the ice (if I remember correctly).
