Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 6 weeks ago
RichH Give My Regards I'm on a zoom with the people I work with and one of them went to his first-ever Cornell hockey game Saturday night with his wife and two kids, both of whom are less than two years old. His attitude about the cussing was, "well they're going to hear it anyway at some point, what's the difference? We're already seeing guys beat each other up on the ice." He was sby yougoon - Hockey

ugarte newco113 ugarte BlueSky Trotsky Jeff Hopkins '82Just get into the rink, and figure it out from there.This. The weekend is going to be 90% Q and Cornell fans. The Q fans are going to leave after their game to either celebrate or slink back to Toilet-on-the-Connecticut. We will have a half empty building to ourselves. Advice: if you come without tickets get there early because LP hasby yougoon - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 6 weeks ago
vemonkey Wish it had happened last night. The student section was a little too rowdy tonight and needs to relearn some of the chants from the list on elynah. Although I believe in adaptation and new, creative cheer development I agree with "relearn" suggestion: 1) In addition to jingling keys at inappropriate moments, it is disappointing to hear the students chant "warm up tby yougoon - Hockey
Re: Season Ticket Renewal - 2 years ago
I’m also a relocated section C season ticket holder. I haven’t paid yet and tomorrow 1/11/22 appears to be the deadline. So, am I to understand that if we don’t pay for our seats during this pandemic when students are being strongly encouraged to avoid social gathering, and now our beloved coach has COVID, I will lose my tickets that I’ve paid for faithfully for over 25 years? Re: Road trips. - 6 years ago
Interesting, we were at the Clarkson game. When I called to buy tix over a week in advance, I was told that the Cornell section was sold out (perhaps they didn't actually have a Cornell section...) and couldn't get four seats together anywhere in the rink. We ended up with some other Cornell supporters in the middle of a Clarkson section on the end. The Clarkson fans sitting behind us were talby yougoon - Hockey

purchasing Lake Placid tickets - 7 years ago
I've been looking for announcements about tickets - does any one know if we should buy from ECAC website or is there a block that will be sold at Cornell? I want all-session tickets not just single game. thanks.by yougoon - Hockey
Re: nickerson jail? - 20 years ago
I had heard it was the Abbotts who were there, so I wondered if BettyJo got the sweater number wrong. Actually, although it makes me sad to think that our players were classless in this case, at least it makes me feel better that Clarkson players were not roaming around town looking for fights.by yougoon - Hockey

Re: Turning Point of the Series - 20 years ago
Ok. So you are saying the reason that Cornell couldn't complete passes, gave up all kinds of pucks in the neutral zone, missed shots at the open net, was because Vesce was missing? If so, that makes me very nervous about next year. I agree that Vesce was a cohesive force and leader of this team and certainly his face-off ability was very important, but there was a lot of other talent and linesby yougoon - Hockey
Clarkson excessive penalties - 20 years ago
Perhaps one of the experts on this board can tell me if my perception is correct: Is Clarkson pretty consistently one of the most penalized teams in the ECAC and in the nation? The reason I ask is because it seems to me that lack of discipline is becoming a long-term trademark for Clarkson. Although I know the fans were taunting some of the Clarkson players, many of them showed remarkableby yougoon - Hockey
Re: Turning Point of the Series - 20 years ago
Unfortunately, I completely agree. We stooped, were embarrassed by the way the call singled us out and lost our (moral) edge. (No matter how much Nickerson deserved to be smacked.) Clarkson feeds on getting under an opponent's skin. They succeeded.by yougoon - Hockey
Season Tix Holders - tix for Clarkson are in your package - 20 years ago
FYI - If you read the confusing note in today's Ithaca Journal and wondered if you need to, as a season ticket holder, go to buy you tickets for this weekend's games against Clarkson, YOU DON'T. I just called the ticket office and they are being bombarded with calls from people as a result of that article. The message was supposed to be directed at season Student Ticket holders since their packby yougoon - Hockey

Re: Panoramic Photos of a Full Lynah? - 20 years ago
I have a contact who's specialty is panoramic shots (although he usually does them in India or China) and he is willing to do this for us. Does anyone know how he would go about getting permission? Obviously time is of the essence because the season is ending. Any ideas you might have are appreciated. Also, if you have knowledge about how he would approach the Campus Store or someone else aby yougoon - Hockey
Re: i2sports for the Colgate game - 20 years ago
I am trying to get the broadcast, but can't. I go to i2sports and click on the Jan 31 game, and I get a split screen with Colagate Ice Hockey, but then can't get to the broadcast. How did you do it?by yougoon - Hockey
Re: What is right with us this season - 20 years ago
On that defensive note, I'd like to add that Charlie Cook and Jeremy Downs have really impressed me with their smart plays and their offensive-minded defense. They are solid. and Cook's attempt at the penalty shot was beautiful - too bad he got robbed.by yougoon - Hockey
Re: What is wrong with us this season? - 20 years ago
I have one observation to make. In the many years I have watched Cornell hockey, it seems to me that, in the past, when the team got a little down on its luck, the fans would try to make it up with inspiration and energy. That just isn't happening this year. The more the team struggles, the more our fans sit back and throw out a "let's go red" once per period. Perhaps this has sometby yougoon - Hockey
Re: Schaffer Explodes - 20 years ago
Friday against Union was VERY poorly officiated, but it didn't seem as dangerous (except to our standings.) Saturday against RPI was one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen and it was clear that RPI wanted to hurt us. I too think it is lame to blame a loss on the official, but wow. And I should be clear, it was Dupree, not the linesmen who stunk. Does anyone know the protocal forby yougoon - Hockey
Re: Newspaper Tradition - 20 years ago
I know nothing about any stunt like that. But what I remember as the most provoking stunt I’ve ever seen is: As the starting lineup for Cornell was introduced, most of our players would skate up to the blue line, perhaps spray some ice and greet each other. When Shafer was introduced, he skated past the blue, to the red line, screeched to a halt, then looking into the faces of (I think) the Haby yougoon - Hockey

Yes, the stick was rigged - it was the best psych-out move I've ever seen. Cowbell Guy, I'm not so great at telling stories, do you want to tell it? Were you there?by yougoon - Hockey
Re: Newspaper Tradition - 20 years ago
I saw Shafer do something during the announcements on one occassion that was much more provoking than spraying ice - I think it was a Harvard game. It must have been discussed in this forum before...does anyone know what I am talking about?by yougoon - Hockey

and a burning desire to see the "you goon" cheer resuscitated before it's too late. I don't blame the freshmen who misunderstood the cheer, (when I was a little kid I used to say “Scooby-do” instead of “Screw BU”) but I don’t believe they would say "you loose" if they knew they had it wrong because, well, it’s just lame. So, can anyone help me come up with an idea that usby yougoon - Hockey

In a way, I was lucky that I couldn't make the game since I'm sure it hurt more to have to watch the loss in person...but regarding the fans, I must say I thought they were pretty loud when I was listening to the radio. Re: 4 foot rule - 21 years ago
Well, if there was another angle that was conclusive, then I stand corrected. It certainly appeared from the shots available to the general public that the goal was a good one, or at least questionable enough to go with the call on the ice.by yougoon - Hockey
Re: 4 foot rule - 21 years ago
Clearly, the stick was below the crossbar - and Palahicky hit the puck with the shaft, not the blade, so the puck was touched well below the crossbar. I want to know what happens to an issue like this - does it just go under the rug? Do people (NCAA, refs, sportscasters, some fans) just make themselves feel better about it because "there were other chances to win?" I think that's craby yougoon - Hockey
