Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Opponents and Others, 2022-23 - 6 months ago
osorojo Can't answer a question? Call its author a "bot"- an insect? The question stands by itself: "What are the necessary preconditions for Cornell to create a championship D-1 men's college hockey team?" (Hint - name calling isn't one of them) The only time questions are "disagreeable" is when the respondent is ashamed of or wants to obscure the answer. My questioby blackwidow - Hockey

Looking forward to seeing this team get manhandled by uconn and harvardby blackwidow - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Quinnipiac , 11/05/22 - 7 months ago
BearLover Iceberg It's only been 4 games but I guess anemic offense will be the theme of this year? Looks very similar to last year’s offense—little talent, bad execution. Benching Donaldson and Bancroft, two of the higher skill guys, was a questionable choice given the team couldn’t set up anything on any of their ample man-up chances. Totally agree on little talent and bad executionby blackwidow - Hockey
Re: Early ratings - 7 months ago
osorojo Current USCH D-1 pairwise ratings have rated the Cornell Men's Varsity hockey team in 61st. place - one ahead of last-place Dartmouth. That's the bad news. The good news is the Cornell men's ice hockey team has nowhere to go but up! Roughly where it belongsby blackwidow - Hockey

Re: 2022-23 Predictions - 9 months ago
abmarks abmarks BearLover They are slated to have 15 draft picks, easily the most in program history and per my quick look-over the most of any team in the NCAAs (and yes, that includes Michigan, BU, BC, Minnesota, etc.). 15? Wow. They'll be fun to watch, especially in the second half of the season, regardless of arch-rival status blah blah CHN has them at 16 picks, not 15, unless there'sby blackwidow - Hockey

Re: blackwidow - 11 months ago
ugarte upprdeck yeah because getting into a school is the same for everyone that applies.you are inventing the premise that harvard has an easier time getting players in than we do, and it is based on...? He was probably jokingby blackwidow - Hockey

scoop85 blackwidow George Fegaras drafted 83rd overall, the highest in the ECAC this year. Ben MacDonald (Harvard, 91st) 3rd round Daimon Gardner (Clarkson, 113rd), Ryan Healey (Harvard, 121st) 4th round Matthew Morden (Harvard, 131st), Michael Callow (Harvard, 154th) 5th round Luke Devlin just selected #182 (6th round) by the Penguins I really hope we get to keep Fegaras (pray emoby blackwidow - Hockey

Weder Jessica Campbell hired as an assistant coach for Seattle’s AHL affiliate. She’s the first woman to coach full-time in the AHL. I wonder if this means she wont have to report to the Rangers prospect camp..?by blackwidow - Hockey
Re: blackwidow - 11 months ago
BearLover We should have a solid roster and be a top-four ECAC team. I just would have liked to see more of an uptick in recruiting from our recent success. Harvard and Quinnipiac are going to have rosters that are quite a bit better on paper. Harvard, because their recruiting is in a different stratosphere than the rest of the ECAC. Quinnipiac, because they have a ton of returning fifth-year senby blackwidow - Hockey

ursusminor Trotsky What was the source of the rankings? Evan Pace is a rising senior at UConn which probably means it is far from accurate and may also explain the poor ranking of QU at #42, not that I would mind that. I give a rating for each player based on their 21-22 performance / draft status. Then I give a multiplier based on their league (i.e. USHL > NAHL). And lastly I factor in thby blackwidow - Hockey

Beeeej Trotsky BeeeejRemember our seemingly permanent Nanaimo pipeline? What do we have on the roster now, one former Clipper? The pipeline has to be open on both ends; maybe personnel changed out in Nanaimo. Right, and maybe personnel changed out in the Development program. Then factor in other D1 teams that might notice a bunch of strong recruits coming from somewhere in particular and try toby blackwidow - Hockey

George64 Jacob McDonald’15 wasn’t drafted, but through perseverance, got to hoist the Stanley Cup. One of my top 5 fav players from Cornell. Given his progress from the end of Cornell days, i sometimes wonder if he was ill utilized at Cornell.by blackwidow - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros 2021-2022 - 11 months ago
Dafatone Little surprised MacDonald couldn't crack the lineup, given how much work the Avs put into hiding Jack Johnson. He only had 8:25 of ice time in game six! That's close to half as much as the next lowest. But hey, if it ain't broke... Makes me extra sad because Nico Sturm has been in the lineup for the Avsby blackwidow - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros 2021-2022 - 11 months ago
LGR14 Surprised not to see it posted yet, but Jacob MacDonald skated with the Cup on Sunday. He doesnt meet the criteria to have his name etched on the cup and id be surprised if the Ava petition for his name to be etched but I hope they do. He's been a great member of the orgby blackwidow - Hockey

French Rage blackwidow French Rage blackwidow Robb Only 14 teams, 2 ECAC, and 1 Ivy have done it in the last 25 years, so it’s a ridiculous assertion to say that any particular team should have pulled it off “by chance.” I do have to acknowledge the stats you quoted show winning the NCAA title in the last 25 years should not have been claimed to be a walk in the park for the majority of the teaby blackwidow - Hockey
Re: blackwidow - 11 months ago
upprdeck there is only X amount a coach can do at any given school. you can recruit every perfect kid that would be great. That doesnt mean they will come, and that doesnt mean they can get accepted.. Its not just the lack of scholies that hurts. Location, cost, type of school, degrees offered. It all adds up. Yeah, i acknowledge that coaching at cornell is not a walk in the park. Recruitby blackwidow - Hockey

I mean, lets be real. It is understandable now that they arent winning much because way more colleges take college hockey seriously and given the structural disadvantages and comparatively limited resources at cornell, it's tough to recruit guys and whatnot. But, no ecac title since 2010 is kind of unacceptable.by blackwidow - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 blackwidow Jeff Hopkins '82 Dafatone I'm lowkey rooting for the Avs, but Nash on the cup is absolutely the best part of TB winning if they do. I've always said the Stanley Cup doesn't belong below the Mason-Dixon Line, and I'm definitely not a fan of a Florida team winning it. So I'm also rooting for Colorado. Trotsky #ignore We've seen this movie before. The troll will go away if it doesn't get attention. Just saying 25+ years should've been enough for the team to random walk its way to the NCAA. Whats up with this forum being bent over backwards?by blackwidow - Hockey
