Re: Cornell lacrosse 2024 - 5 days ago
Al DeFlorio jjanow99 Goldstein unsportsmanlike penalty with 6 seconds to go, what was that? Looked like he was taunting a Yale defender. Can't know what went on during the game that led to that. Ugh--I was coming here to ask the same question, and that's the answer I feared. It's not a good look for our best young player to taunt the opposition after his best game. Hoping that Buczek straighteby djk26 - Other Sports

Ken711 Final: 18-15 Cornell over Yale This is Cornell's best win of the seson. Very satifying. I thought going into the game that Yale was the best team in the Ivy League (and they still may be--at least twice in recent years Cornell has beaten Yale in the regular season, only to lose to them in the ILT.) Today was Ryan Goldstein's coming out party--FIVE goals, wow. The Kirst/Goldstein comboby djk26 - Other Sports

CU77 Red now up 12-8 midway through the 3rd. AND Yale scores 3 goals in 41 sec, now 12-11 Red Cornell gets a tiny bit of breathing room with Wirtheim's first goal of the day, 13-11 with Cornell leading, 12:30 to go. Five Cornell players with two goals or more.by djk26 - Other Sports

Real barn burner in Ithaca (not that anything could literally catch fire there in today's weather)-- 7-6 Cornell leading Yale at halftime. My biggest fear has not so far been realized--Yale is leading in faceoffs (9-6) but not dominating. I do worry that Cornell's faceoff men tend to fade a little as the game goes on-something to keep an eye on in the second half. Cornell's frosh goaltendeby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling 2024 Postseason - 5 days ago
Chris '03 Thank you as always for spelling this out for the casual March wrestling fans. Do we know what weight they are starting with tonight? NCAA Wrestling on Twitter says it will be: 285, 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197. So Vito's the third match. Don't know how they determine the order--I guess if soemone was wrestling for a fourth straight national title or something heby djk26 - Other Sports

dag14 FYI, the general admission ticket price is $25 per person plus fees for online purchase. Not sure about DU students but the "discounted" price announced by the Cornell Club of CO was $20. I will never complain about the price of admission in Ithaca again. $25 for a regular season lacrosse game?by djk26 - Other Sports

Today's results--win over Brown, loss to Penn. Finish sixth at the Ivy League championship. Colubmia shares the title with Princeton and Penn. Next on March 10 is Northeastern regionals in Brooklyn; Cornell will send 12 fencers.by djk26 - Other Sports
Re: Women's Fencing - 6 weeks ago
Rough day at the Ivy League Championship as #4 Cornell goes 0-4 with losses to #3 Harvard, #1 Columbia, #11 Princeton, #9 Yale. Big surprise is Princeton, who also upset Harvard and Columbia and now sits in first place. Presumably tomorrow's opponents are only #18 Brown and #6 Penn as Dartmouth does not have a team.by djk26 - Other Sports

Women's Fencing - 7 weeks ago
I thought this team (now #7) deserved some love after upsetting then #2 Notre Dame this weekend. They went 11-1 at the Northwestern Duals, including wins over #2 Notre Dame, #14 Stanford, #13 Ohio State. Only loss was to the host, #8 Northwestern. Interestingly, though Cornell is now #7 in the country, there are three Ivy teams ahead of them (#1 Columbia, #3 Harvard, #5 Penn.) Yale is at #8by djk26 - Other Sports

Will In fairness to BU, they also posted a win over then-#3 Quinnipiac since last week's poll. Ah, thank you...I should have checked their other recent games before posting. Qunninipiac is tough; BU beating them makes our win over BU seem even better. (What's that you say? It also makes our loss to QU seem worse? I'm not listening... ) Any given night, polls don't matter, always give 100%,by djk26 - Hockey
Re: Ceramic Dalmatians, 2024 - 4 months ago
Thought I'd update this after Cornell's biggest win of the season... Cornell is now #16 in the USCHO poll, after last week's placement at...#16. BU, after losing to the #16 team in the poll, is #4, after last week's placement at...#5. These are "ceramic dalmatians" and they don't mean anything, I get that. But still....by djk26 - Hockey

The Daily Princetonian offered predictions on this game (which I did not see until well after the game ended.) Two out of the three staff members in the article picked Cornell to win, but the one that didn't wrote this: Daily Princetonian The Big Red will struggle to contain Mackesy Adler is such a great player.by djk26 - Other Sports

jjanow99 mike1960 djk26 Ben Abladian--anyone know what happened to him? He was a much heralded transfer and he's barely played this season. I feel bad about speculating about an amateur player's status, but it seems strange that he would transfer if he wasn't going to play. Abladian played in the Marquette game. It was either Barry Leonard or Tom Lafalce who said that he was still learning thby djk26 - Other Sports

arugula They were announcing from their basements. Didn’t realize ESPN was doing it this way. They seemed disengaged and quint was absolutely refusing to take the bait and give Cornell due credit despite his partners prompting. Par for the course I guess. The Rancor Do we know if this game is on Espnews or just on Espn+? Cornell's game is on ESPNews...I thought I got that channel but alas no. I didn't watch the first game either but 5-1 is an impressive score. Still, I've wanted another shot at BU since the game against them earlier this year. Re: Cornell lacrosse 2023 - 1 year ago
This game against Yale was like a dream--winning half the faceoffs, winning the ground balls, AND Michael Long was playing. I was actually surprised to see the stats at the end of the game--50% on faceoffs and ahead only 34-32 on ground balls--seemed like Cornell was dominating both stats through three quarters. So happy to have Long back--the games don't get easier even if, on paper, the Iviesby djk26 - Other Sports
Re: 2023 ECAC Post Season - 1 year ago
djk26 Ugh--so this weekend is the double torture of losing to Harvard--and then having to root for them in the next game. I guess yesterday was the best of all possible results--four ECAC teams (apparently) in the NCAA tournament, and most importantly, Cornell is one of them. We can talk about how it would have been nice to have an easier path to the Frozen Four, but the fact is, we had some bby djk26 - Hockey
