List of all current Band Songs? - 5 years ago
Tonight's win was very relieving. Cheers to everyone here on the great and well-deserved win over a very well-coached Union team! Rick Bennett certainly does an amazing job each year with the resources he's given and makes the maximum of everything he has! Honestly, I kinda wish he got the BU job a year ago because that would certainly make the ECAC a much easier conference to play in! But, tby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Student Season Tickets - 5 years ago
Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place to post this question! Does anyone know what time tomorrow morning season tickets for students go on sale? I just want to make sure I get the good seats I get every year! Thanks in advance!by LynahFaithful - Hockey
Baseless Speculation - 6 years ago
Is it possible we could have a new coach this coming year? Schafer's youngest child is graduating from Cornell this spring and this might be the time for him to retire... I'm NOT saying it's going to happen, but all things considered, I could see it happen.by LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Cornell-BU - 6 years ago
Shoot... I wish we really landed one of those many chances we had to score. I sure will miss this very talented senior class. They improved a lot over the course of their time here at Cornell and have a bright future ahead of them.by LynahFaithful - Hockey

ursusminor TimV Trotsky LynahFaithfulIf we were to look laterally, who would we consider from other ECAC (or Hockey East) programs? Is it critical that the coach is a Cornell alum? If so, is Ken Dryden another option or is he invested enough in Canadian politics that he's out of the question? I also mentioned Rick Bennett (Union HC) and I didn't get much of a reaction back... I think Bennettby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Trotsky LynahFaithfulAnd when you say radical change, what do you have in mind? Maybe give an example of a coach that would mean a radical change and explain how? When I say radical change I mean an entirely new philosophy. This also likely means bringing in someone from outside the program since Cornellians of the past 20 years both self-selected and then were trained in Mike's style. I hby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
TimV I like Bennett. I like his intensity, I like his style of play, I like his recruits, who have been great academically. I love it that RPI foams at the mouth at the mere mention of his name. He'd do fine here- and would come if the price was right because of the fan support, donor support, bigger rink, and better brand. I'd love to see him here. Don't know if he could live with Andy Noelby LynahFaithful - Hockey

Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
underskill why Nieuwendyk? I get he's a big name, but he's got no coaching experience, and I don't want a Ted Donato situation, with a famous alum you can't fire if need be. Valid point. However, I believe within a couple years he would be able to attract very good assistant coaches and also players via recruiting just because of his big name. You do pose a good point about not being able toby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
06Cowboy13 It's a shame many of you armchair quarterbacks have taken one of the best coaches in the country for granted and are itching for a change. The grass is always greener on the other side, but sometimes its painted green. He has maintained and built a foundation for consistent winning tradition for the Big Red and should be given a 5 year extension. I appreciate you being optimistic (evby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Trotsky Absent any inside knowledge, I can't imagine he'd want the job. Ithaca's pretty and Mike's a friend, but we're small potatoes compared to what Joe has been doing. Very true. However, I like to think though the head coaching position (at Cornell) is a pretty big title that many would like to have, potentially including NHL/Cornell alums like Nieuwendyk. Is it likely that the athby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Upcoming Season '15-16 - 8 years ago
RichH The first four games are pretty low priority which is nice compared to other recent seasons, I agree. I can see playing around with setting the lines for those games, too. Hopefully those solidify early so the lines aren't still being juggled around in February. So often, the early games take on a higher importance with our limited OOC in respect to having hope for At-Large bid chances. Laby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Upcoming Season '15-16 - 8 years ago
RichH LynahFaithful What I said above is a good transition into replying to this, but first I must ask: Are we talking about the same hockey team? Correct me if I am wrong, but from everything I know, Schafer since being head coach has always promoted a physical, defense-first, and conservative style of play which might not be pure "Dump and Chase" hockey but is a close descendantby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Upcoming Season '15-16 - 8 years ago
Trotsky My impression is we fall into "dump and chase" only when we are out of sync. The Plan is to keep possession, carry the puck into the zone, and then charge the net, drop pass, or set up on the periphery based on the defensive reaction. I'll grant we've been out of sync a lot more than usual lately. I'll agree partially. I think that's part of the play-style - it does not rby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Has anyone ever considered Joe Nieuwendyk? He doesn't have coaching experience but I don't think it would hurt to give him a shot. Would he take the job if it were offered to him?by LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Upcoming Season '15-16 - 8 years ago
RichH Schafer has a history of successful "big men," yes, but also has a history of smaller players: Topher, Vesce, Gallagher, Romano, Jillson, Roeszler, etc. And I never pay much attention to the incoming weight stats as it's fairly common for Cornell players to bulk up as soon as they hit the program. (See Bergin, Tony) Very true. However, but from observing the last few years,by LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Upcoming Season '15-16 - 8 years ago
Jim Hyla Look who'll be skating for Harvard this season. How do these guys compare to our recruiting class? On a side note, our recruiting class has many 7 forwards that are considerably smaller (height and weight wise) than what I think is typically recruited by Cornell. Will the emphasis this season be more on puck possession and skating into the offensive zone than Schafer's signatureby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Cornell Hockey Tradition (stolen?) - 8 years ago
It appears our third period ritual has rubbed off onto Clarkson, too bad it's not as intense and ritualized.by LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 Schedule - 8 years ago
Swampy Jim Hyla Thanks to all who helped keep this up to date. Note that the exhibition games are Sat & Sun, not Fri & Sat. I like this early season schedule. I think that since we start late, having games that allow us to develop is better than jumping into tough games against teams that have already played 2 or 4 games. I'd like to see us play some tougher Ivies earlier on. Yale/Brownby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 Schedule - 8 years ago
Trotsky LynahFaithfulAm I the only one a little disappointed to see the Colgate series earlier on this year? I know some consider this a "rivalry game" and in that spirit, I prefer this game played at the end of the season when it feels as though more is on the line. 'Gate will be good and they will presumably have played more games, so in that regard I don't like it. Well, they wiby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: 2015-16 Schedule - 8 years ago
RichH Official schedule has been released: The only updates to the schedule posted here that I see are that the exhibition games are vs. Ryerson & Laurentian and they are being played on Saturday/Sunday (Oct 24-25). An extra day of offseason waiting will be rough. Who's Ryerson & Laurentian? Am I the only one a little disappointed to see the Colgate series earlier on thisby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Red Hot Hockey (Screw BU!) - 8 years ago
It's never too early to start a thread for this! How will things go this year? Points worth noting: 1 - Jack Eichel goes to the NHL. This is definitely a benefit to us, and I doubt BU will have someone to replace him, but definitely stay alert. 2 - Cornell graduated some pretty good talent which hopefully will be filled by rising players and the incoming class. Next Season - 8 years ago
To put it simply, this past season was rough for me with all of the ups and downs - blown games against very weak teams (Ex. @ Princeton), very good play against top teams like (Harvard, Yale, and Denver), and then the ultimate low point of getting drowned 0-7 by a team we had beaten 5-1 earlier in the season. Many people will pull the common "injury" card to account for these incidencby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 8 years ago
Trotsky There's talk on the Harvard USCHO thread that the Cheating Three may play for other D-1 schools this (in particular, Minny is looking at Michalek). The restriction was Ivy, not NC$$, so it's legit. Wow... Someone please tell me that the NCAA is going to actually care about this rather than just blow it off. Sounds like the faithful will have to come up with a new chant to commemoraby LynahFaithful - Hockey

*YAWN* I don't see Arizona State Hockey going anywhere soon in their first year of playing Division 1 Hockey - they have played club hockey in the past and the jump to Division 1 is going to be HARD initially. I believe they will also struggle with recruiting in their first few years of Division 1 play. Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Cop at Lynah Mike has already stated publicly that he tried new systems and they just didn't work. Hopefully he goes back to what he knows to be successful and we see a return to being in the hunt for league titles and NCAA berths. But in general, will going back to old ways will change much? I'm not sure how much of an impact the changes he made had. For a few years leading up to this pastby LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Well, it seems that people are almost all on the same page about it coming down to the head coach for a variety of reasons. So, what exactly will happen? If Schafer stays, what changes could/should he make? Play style? Assistant coaching? If Schafer goes, then who could Cornell bring in?by LynahFaithful - Hockey
Re: Future Coaching? - 8 years ago
Swampy LynahFaithful redice I'd like to see him stay & continue to direct the program..... But, I do believe it's time to make sweeping changes to the assistant coaching. Replacing everyone BUT Schafer would bring some new ideas into the program while maintaining that steady hand on the controls....
