Today’s NY Times: Professor Jim Maas, dead at 86. He was a TA when I took Psych 101. Awhile after he became a professor, his course was moved to Bailey Hall as it was so popular. He taught an estimated 65,000 students and allegedly sexually harassed several coeds. .by George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

This thread prompted me to look at the Google Earth view of the Triphammer Road area. I was in grad school when Friendly’s replaced the pond where we occasionally played 3-on-3 hockey. Now that’s gone, replaced by Kingston’s Cuisine, whatever that is.by George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

TrotskyPeople are catching on to how "selectivity" is manipulated. Columbia is legit since they ride the designer label, but even decent schools like Vanderbilt have been caught deliberately mass recruiting kids they know will be rejected for the sole purpose of artificially lowering their acceptance rates. Whichever sociopath consultant thought that play up got a nice bonus. Maybeby George64 - John Spencer Is Dead

Al DeFlorio George64 Finally, some good news! Will Professor Steve Strogatz do for math what Carl Sagan did for science? Can't access the Times, but Strogatz co-authored a brilliant piece of instructional software for differential equations that was sold by Addison-Wesley back in the 90s. Nat Graham, late of Penn, named associate head coach of Cornell basketball. Interestingly, Graham was an assistant coach when Jon Jaques was playing. To quote Darth Vader “When I left you, I was but the learner, now I am the master.”by George64 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio billhoward NY Times article says Syracuse, riding a record wave of Class of 2029 applicants, may have been too stingy doling out financial aid. Too many admits chose elsewhere. And then Syracuse had to offer generous discounts post-May 1 to get desired candidates to decommit elsewhere. Not surprisingly, nobody at Syracuse is available for comment. Moore's elliptical reference an unnamed sport caused some headshaking among alums who wondered, why not name the team since it gets known sooner or later and it increases curiosity. mike1960 upprdeck Other than the hat there is nothing in that list that I would ever buy and actually wear in public Those are very busy pieces of clothing. I’d like to see a red jersey with a large white block C on the front and an equally-sized number 1 in the back. That would say it all for me, plus I could wear it after our next hockey championship. .by George64 - Other Sports

BearLover What are some historic Cornell big game performances that compare to Kirst’s 6 goals in the title game this season? Seven goals by twin brothers, Doug (3) and Dave (4) Ferguson against BC, ECAC Quarter Finals, March 8, 1966. .by George64 - Other Sports

Al DeFlorio IIRC, the Yale loss followed the BU tie. Both Cornell and BU were unbeaten going into that tournament game. You’re correct.by George64 - Other Sports
Re: CORNELL WINS 2025 MENS LACROSSE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! - 6 weeks ago
CU77 Dryden did backstop the one-loss 1967 hockey team to an NCAA championship as a "sophomore sensation" (Cornell Daily Sun description of him after an early season win), and IIRC he did not play in that one loss. You are correct, Dave Quarrie, a senior, played in two games that year, including a 3-4 OT loss to Yale at Lynah. His GPG average was 2.86, almost double Dryden 1.46 for tby George64 - Other Sports

To Alumni and Friends of Cornell Lightweight Rowing, It’s with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that our team will not be competing at this year’s IRA National Championship due to the team’s behavior following a recent competition. Please also see Dr. Nicki Moore’s statement to alumni below. Though I can’t discuss the details, the decision was necessitated by the nature and numberby George64 - Other Sports
