Re: Alumni in the pros 23-24 - Yesterday
billhoward One in four NHLers have been to college. Per AI: Google AI answer to "nhl percentage college playrs" Roughly 25% of NHL players have played college hockey, but the majority come from Major Juniors. In 2021–2022, 48 NCAA Division I schools had an alum playing in the NHL, which is a 65% increase from 2002–2003, when 21.1% of NHL players were NCAA alumni. The NHL generallyby adamw - Hockey

Trotsky At least when I impolitely take issue with Adam it's a matter of his comprehensively-stated argument* and not one suggestive rhetorical off-the-cuff snippet. Bear, stop making me look fair-minded by comparison. * albeit one which is an apodictic inanity. BearLover Dafatone pfibiger Dafatone BearLover adamw I should probably just shut up - but I'm not good at that. I think Ben Syer and Topher are great guys. Neither will be the next coach. Casey Jones is one of my favorite people in hockey, and I think he's a great coach. However, he's only 4 years younger than Coach Schafer - and so it won't be him either. chimpfood adamw chimpfood Basse is actually a great pick up for a school like Saint Lawrence. Seems like a weird choice on Basse’s part but who am I to judge. BearLover I’m confused. Wasn’t there all this talk about demand for the Maryland Heights regional greatly outstripping the supply (2,500 seats)? But 2/3 of the seats are empty for UMich-NoDak. There is zero doubt NoDak fans would fill any building there is - even on the moon. Most likely it was just impossible logistically to actually get the tickets.by adamw - Hockey

CU77 chimpfood On the CHN podcast today Adam said that he supports teams being able to host regionals in their own rinks but should only play there if they are a one or two seed. I don't think any school would bid to host under these conditions. If they put their mind to it, I'm sure they could come up with conditions under which schools would bid. But having conferences host in the better soluby adamw - Hockey

iceIf the game against Denver were on Friday night, I think the double over time for Denver would be important. However, with a full day of rest tomorrow, I bet most of them will be okay. One possible exception is Denver's goalie, Matt Davis, who looked like he may have gotten hurt during the second overtime. To be honest, I wish him well and hope he fully recovers. RichH BearLover Larry72 chimpfood Man we’ve got a real winnable game up next too. Denver didn’t look good against UMass, will be gassed from double OT, and we beat them last year. Let’s get Schafer his frozen four that he deserves. Remember that Denver is playing essentially at sea level instead of 5000"+, they have a day off, and they all are in great shape (as is Cornell)! JasonN95 arugula 4 out of 9 have us winning the region. That’s remarkable. Interesting to me that Adam has Cornell losing to Maine in the first game. BearLover Can someone explain what the problem with Albany was? If you live in the tri-state area it is easily accessible. Lake Placid is not. Many more fans would be able to attend the games if it were held in a more central location like Albany. Was Albany attendance not higher than Lake Placid? arugula Fair enough but the ECAc at Boston Garden (post HEA split) drew well. These are different times. The GLI used to sell out and be electric - and now they couldn't draw for it, so it was moved to Grand Rapids. Just one example. But almost everywhere, attendance for college hockey events is way down from those days.by adamw - Hockey

Iceberg ER What if we had lost tonight? From what I've read there would've been no shot at an at-large as 14-16 would've been taken up by the AHA, CCHA, and SLU. And as far as next week, it seems that a re-match with Denver is inevitable, although in the western regional this time Not necessarily. Cornell could be a 3 seed still.by adamw - Hockey

arugula I seem to recall that the Boston Garden was nearly full for the ECAC in the mid 80s. I get that we can’t go back there, but how about Barclays or UBS or the Prudential. I’m sure MSG is too pricy. In the highly likely event that Cornell is in the semi finals there will be a strong likely five figure not half empty crowd. Swampy arugula And we’re 13 in the pwr… The problem is that if we lose, I don't think the ECAC is a three-bid league this year no matter what the pwr says. The only thing that matters is what the Pairwise says. And the Pairwise says Cornell must win tomorrow to make the NCAAs.by adamw - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 4 weeks ago
billhoward Correct, the ECAC site box score has it as 3839, or 49.9% full in a 7700-seat arena, for Colgate's 3-2 win over Harvard a year ago in Placid. I never know if the site publishes tickets sold for the game or people who actually come in. I don't know any venue on the planet anymore that counts people who come in. It's always tickets sold.by adamw - Hockey
