Re: Riley Nash signs with Edmonton - 16 years ago
Now that was funny stuff! Well done.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Nash could return as early as November - 16 years ago
neither, but very closely aquainted with my knee doc as I have btdt with 3 knee ops. My advice is to avoid them at all costs, but if you cannot, don't rush them back. It only leads to trouble.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Nash could return as early as November - 16 years ago
Well done..... Seriously though, don't rush a bad knee injury. It never has a positive outcome.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Nash could return as early as November - 16 years ago
I totally agree. There is no reason to rush him back. Even take a medical redshirt if you have to and come back next season fully rehabbed.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
That is what I was longwindedly getting at. He is a great skater, has hands that you can never teach, but he refuses to play without the puck, which any player is overwhelmingly without the puck for most of the game, he refuses to play a team game and utilize his teammates to his benefit. He is ultimately a very selfish player. His coach Nikoforov and every one before and after (even Mike andby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
Jim Hyla Actually there is a new IHL, nothing related to the one that dissolved in early 2000's. It's a reincarnation of old UHL, I believe. If that's his end point, I feel sorry for him. Seeing what's happened to McKee and others, only reinforces my view that unless you're a near sure thing, staying in school is usually the correct option.[/quote You are correct. It is the old Uhaul league.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
You are correct in that he has but one year to "make it". He has nothing left to fall back on. Without a great season in the OHL, he will have a tough time coming back as an overager. The next stop will be the ihl league Right now in 6 games he has only one point - an assist. He clearly was brought in to put up points and right now he isn't. They won't wait long for him in Lonby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
Rich: I was always thought of Tony as a very skilled player with the puck on his stick. His problem, and the team suffered greatly for it, was that he wouldn't use his linemates to open up the ice for him. You have to be willing and able to play away from the puck. The majority of the game for any player is spent without the puck. You only saw Tony play when he had the puck. He would ignoby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
I didn't say he was ever going to be "Defensive Player of the Year", but he is a far cry better defensively than he was early in his career.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Nash injury confirmation - 16 years ago
Evil: You raise an interesting point and one that drives me crazy. The new trend with colleges is to hide behind the banner of "medical privacy" in order to not discuss / fully disclose an injury to an athlete. That is fine for you or me, but for a varsity athlete it is not, especially for those schools that are scholarship schools. NCAA football is a little better, injury reby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Romano update - 16 years ago
Josh '99You mean like what Schafer wanted him to do? Want??? He is the head coach. He could have actually influenced him with benching him until he played the game he as the head coach "wanted." By not doing so he gave his blessing to Tony's selfish, no defense style of play. As for not taking him and the others on the road trip, it had nothing to do with on ice play.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Nash injury confirmation - 16 years ago
I can't speak for ugarte, but my response was a bit factitious. I think his might have been as well.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Romano update - 16 years ago
While it is very early, it appears that Romano is struggling to fit in to the OHL. At least Hunter has the cajones to sit him unlike Mike. He was able to break Schremp and turn him into a real hockey player. It appears he isn't going to be afraid to try it with Tony either. That my be the best thing for him in the long run...that is, a coach that will make him play unselfishly and on botby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Nash injury confirmation - 16 years ago
That is an awfully big jump. This isn't the first time Mike has not been truthful about a serious injury that affects significant playing time. Will Nash be missed? Absolutely. This is no simple miniscus tear. That is 7-8 months for recovery. That is not a good sign. I first compared this to Duante Cullpepper's injury. It worked out for him or at least it seems like it has, but iby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Nash injury confirmation - 16 years ago
From InsideCollegehockey.com "as standout sophomore Brendon Nash will miss the first three months of the season due to injury. Nash was named to the preseason all-league team by ECAC Hockey coaches and will be missed in the Big Red defense corps". For the doubters, here is the link:by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Wayne State Men's Hockey To Fold After 2007-08 - 16 years ago
They were ranked ahead of us in the powerplay and penalty kill percentage. So there very well might be some contributors we could use.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Preseason ECAC polls out - 16 years ago
I hope he is ready for the start of the season. Has anyone watched him in dryland training or skating?by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
The question begging for an answer is what was cause of the difference between the lack of success in hockey and the great success Milo had in baseball? He obviously fit in fine with the baseball team. It wasn't talent. He is a better hockey player than a baseball player. IMHO it was absolutely the 2 sport issue - Mike changed his mind.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: UVm Release on Milo - 16 years ago
5th in Hockey East will generally get you to the NCAAs and have you ranked in the top 20 in the country.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
Swampy Maybe the solution would have been for Mike to take over coaching baseball in addition to hockey. Sure if the result wanted was a high level of dysfunction and under-achievement Mike is definitely the answer.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
KeithK What part of Jordan's minor league "career" led you to think he'd played baseball since little league?[/quote That is just mean!by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
He obvioulsy didn't leave to play baseball. He left to play baseball and hockey. The Cornell baseball coach can't be real happy with Mike for screwing Milo over and driving him away. How often do you lose a Freshman All American because of another coach at your school?by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: OT - Trouble in Minny - 16 years ago
Interesting to note the tone and content of Coach Don Lucia's comments about O'Brien leaving the Gophers for major junior. Leading up to the announcement, there were two reports in the Minnesota paper that Lucia spoke to O'Brien twice - once by phone and once in person - and O'Brien said there was no truth to the rumors of his leaving. Then, he left. Sounds very much like our own Romano-Schby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
Talk about moving up in leagues. From the EZAC to Hockey East. This is a great move for Milo.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Riley Nash - 16 years ago
You mean few programs like: Minnesota North Dakota Wisconsin Michigan Notre Dame Maine BU BC Denver Michigan State First round draft picks no matter what their game do not go to the ECAC and especially Cornell to become NHL players. I know, I know, Joe N did it back in 85. Yes he did, even though he was the 27th pick overall he went to Cornell and it worked out fine for him. Iby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Riley Nash - 16 years ago
These players were top prospects and the ones that came to mind. I don't believe that it is as high a number as a dozen a year. But it is a real consideration for the very top prospects. The CHL doesn't have the same limitations on recruiting visits, contacts, etc. They can be very aggressive in trying to get the top players. It does happen every year. I would think you would find it to beby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Riley Nash - 16 years ago
You mean like Josh Unice or Pat Maroon this year or Trevor Lewis last year and Peter Mueller a couple of years ago to name a few...you could even add Matt Duchene to that list after he rescinded his committment to Michigan State and went to Brampton in the OHL this summer. The change in his draft status from a mid 3rd round projection to a first round pick changes a lot of things. If he hasby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Riley Nash - 16 years ago
As to Brendon, I do hope that his knee injury was not nearly as severe as I have heard. I by no means wish any ill on him. I was disappointed that he didn't get drafted. I thought that in the games I watched he was sometimes the best D for Cornell. I think he has a lot of pro potential. I believe that he along with Greening should have been named captains and the whole lot of last years capby DILLIGAF - Hockey
