Re: hockey tickets on sale today - 14 days ago
upprdeck So the school charges $36 for Harv and $26 for Dart but the 2 game mini pack was $70.. Nice job with the money grab, forcing people to buy 2 games and the bumping up the price on top of that, Consider it a donation and smile when you are in the rink. Have a great weekend!!by marty - Hockey

Re: Accommodations for North Dakota weekend Nov 1-2 - 29 days ago
jtwcornell91 I was in the process of making a reservation at the Best Western for the Clarkson-SLU weekend, and at the last step I realized what I thought was the total cost for two nights was actually the cost per night. Yikes! RIP Hillside Inn. If you liked the Hillside.by marty - Hockey
Re: Admittance standards for foreign students/athletes - 4 weeks ago
Cop at Lynah I was wondering what the difference is in the admittance standards for US citizens and foreign citizens. Do non US citizen students have to take SAT/ACT's ? Is there foreign standardize testing scores that are utilized ? Not sure at Cornell but I think it has to do with a financial test at NYU. Can the family afford tuition at list price?by marty - Hockey
Re: Cornell football 2024 - at Colgate 9/21 - 4 weeks ago
billhoward rss77 Swamstrom has been given more resources than Archer. Let's hope it works out. Success in college sports sports comes down to recruiting and that was Archer and many other Cornell coaches have fallen short(Exceptions granted to Musick, Baughan, and Hofher regimes). Comes down to talent that is being put on the field. And success comes from involved alumni especially football aluby marty - Other Sports

abmarks Will Al DeFlorio abmarks BearLover . I do wonder why other eastern schools like BC (apparently) aren’t interested. This year they are playing a cupcake home game the day after Thanksgiving. Dartmouth. Isn't that the "cupcake" that tied Cornell twice last season and led 3-1 after two in the ECAC semifinals, nearly putting an end to Cornell's season? Irrespective of Cornell'sby marty - Hockey
Re: Death of the E. Stewart Jones Power Play - 2 months ago
billhoward So minor, still so annoying: filler words in stories or newscasts. Here, former attorney was "formally disbarred," as if one can be disbarred informally. Just as every story on the seasons' changes says, "It's officially the first day of spring." Thirty years ago, anytime of the last century, a midsize newspaper would have a half-dozen or more copy desk editorsby marty - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Wrestling 2024-25 - 2 months ago
Al DeFlorio Nice Intermat article on Cornell wrestling: Keep in mind they cannot use the transfer portal to replace such talent like much of their competition – due to Ivy League rules. Huh?? Is this a sport specific Ivy rule?by marty - Other Sports
Re: Who’s our biggest embarrassment? - 2 months ago
ugarte scoop85 toddlose Just curious on everyone’s thoughts. Doesn’t need to be political. Every institution has someone that they wish wasn’t associated with their Alma mater. As much as I might like to say Ann Coulter, this guy has to be #1Bill Maher, even compared to this guy. I like Coulter, Olberbite and Maher to spread the misery among the various religions. They remind me of sophomoreby marty - John Spencer Is Dead
Death of the E. Stewart Jones Power Play - 3 months ago
Continued sponsorship for the 2024-25 RPI power play may be at risk. Storied legal eagle E. Stewart Jones, the longtime sponsor of this rare event, has been disbarred.by marty - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: SPAM - 3 months ago
Swampy Do any of you have other suggestions? This topic was covered years ago. Either Age or the moderators had decided that a low bar or no bar was better than a Captcha or whatever. I don't remember why they favored easy access. Human monitoring of new members involves labor perhaps more labor than occasionally erasing the effing spam.by marty - Hockey

Re: new rules approved - 3 months ago
upprdeck new rules USCHO on NCAA Playing Rules... — When using video replay, officials will have the ability to review a major penalty and downgrade it to a minor penalty or no penalty. Officials can add to a major penalty during the review (game misconduct or disqualification). This would seem to imply that a video review after no call on the ice could also result in a minor penalty rather tby marty - Hockey

BearLover The NHL draft begins Friday. I am going to give arbitrary odds to the following Cornell players/recruits getting drafted: DiGiulian 50% Robertson 33% Major 15% Arsenault 10% Pirtle 10% Most likely outcome: one Cornellian drafted Ok. I lost a tooth playing a pickup game and found a Bitcoin under my pillow. So who's taking the action on this?by marty - Hockey
Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 4 months ago
Beeeej David Harding dbilmes marty Yes. What is this? When did this touring begin? Perhaps it was back in August of 2024. Has anyone else here ever heard of an every four year European tour allowance? NCAA teams have been allowed to go on one foreign tour every four years for a long time (they can go anywhere overseas). Last year, for example, 61 men's basketball teams went on forby marty - Hockey
Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 4 months ago
Trotsky Cornell players return to campus at the end of July, because on Aug. 2, the team leaves for a European tour, five exhibition games against foreign teams. Huh. Yes. What is this? Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 4 months ago
ursusminor Since I am not a Cornell alum/fan, I did not realize that when Schafer retires in a year, he will have been Cornell's head coach for 30 years counting the COVID year. What surprised me was that I recall reading here posts showing that people were dissatisfied with Brian McCutcheon. That means the I must have been reading this forum before that. So I checked my profile which shows I havby marty - Hockey

Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 4 months ago
Troyfan Leaving Mike and Casey aside for the moment, all I can say is it's straight out of Bizzaro World that Clarkson and RPI admit well over half of their applicants. Things have obviously progressed much worse than I ever could have imagined! One issue at RPI is that like many financially successful schools -including Cornell- class size increased over the past 30 years to boost revenue. Iby marty - Hockey
Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 4 months ago
billhoward >>> With Casey coming in after having been Clarkson's head coach for 13 years, I'd like to know what mistakes he thinks he made at Clarkson and what he would do at Cornell to avoid repeating them. This is attack journalism. Works good on TV if you don't plan to ask the person on again. Too bad no one asked him in the tunnel after Clarkson's season ending loss during the Eby marty - Hockey

Troyfan marty Troyfan Clarkson academics are up there with RPI. This is almost as silly a what used to be thrown about in Troy. "RPI is right up there with MIT."
