Re: Cornell vs. St. John's Men's BB Roll Call - 14 years ago
Great win! You can't count on a guy like Jaques suddenly getting hot, but when it's there it's there and they made it work. Great team ball, better rebounding in the 2nd half, and POISE. This is a team that knows how to win the close games - near-collapse last night notwithstanding. The powers that be would never let it happen, but the preconference "body of work" of CU and Sucksby MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: NCAA rule against agents struck down - 15 years ago
Jim HylaMOBalumAnd similarly, hockey and baseball are the two sports of the Big Four where top academic institutions are regularly found at the top of the rankings.Sure, here's one ranking for this year's baseball. 1. NORTH CAROLINA – 2008 rank: 3 2. LSU – 2008 rank: 6 3. TEXAS A&M – 2008 rank: 12 4. CAL STATE FULLERTON – 2008 rank: 3 5. RICE – 2008 rank: 8 6. TEXAS – 2008 rank: 23 7.by MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: NCAA rule against agents struck down - 15 years ago
TrotskyugarteThis is a lot more likely to affect college hockey than football or hoops. The NHL, like MLB, doesn't require players to opt in to the draft. The NFL and NBA draft opt-in draft rules are collusive bullshit but they present a tougher case. Is it a coincidence that the NHL, like MLB, has a strong minor league system, while the NFL and NBA use the colleges as quasi-professional develoby MOBalum - Other Sports

Walkup sales in Albany? - 16 years ago
New guy here - is it laughable to think I can make a Friday decision on whether to go or not and still buy tickets at the door? Are we talking an MSG-like showing of CU fans, or more like Hobey Baker Rink? Thanks in advance...by MOBalum - Hockey

Are those scrimmages or actual games? I ask because baseball games are not allowed to start yet - seems like weather rules should be applied to all outdoor spring sports, no?by MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: Cornell-Columbia game on YES tonight - 16 years ago
BeeeejI was especially impressed with Cornell's rebounding. Me too (from TV, though). No one had the position or instinct to just grab every rebound, but on nearly every miss CU had hands swatting, men hustling, keeping the ball alive until it often landed in the hands of a CU player for easy points.by MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: Clarkson Viewing in NYC - 16 years ago
Miami Mike's Sports Zone at the East Hanover Ramada Inn - very friendly and tons of TVs, I'm sure they won't give you sound but Mike will spare a set. A couple years ago they gave CU the big screen for the 3OT game, set up red and white balloons and everything for the ~10 of us that were there.by MOBalum - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Duke (No Spoils in Thread Title) - 16 years ago
BeeeejAnd classy move by Donahue to give the rest of the Cornell team some playing time in Cameron. Absolutely - K could've acknowledged the gesture and put in his own scrubs to accept the resignation, but no. Great job by CU against a much deeper team, when they were disciplined in shot selection, CU did quite well. When it turned into a scrum inside, Dook got the offensive boards and wonby MOBalum - Other Sports

Jim HylaRedid this list with the best info I have. If you have additions let me know. I didn't check all TW locations, so if you know that it's also on your local, let me know and I'll add it to this. Obviously I didn't list CU's home net. CU-RPI: SNY - 16 years ago
The game next Friday will be broadcast on SNY, available on most NY area outlets and DirecTV. Here's to a 3-game unbeaten streak for the pregame show guys to talk about. Go Redby MOBalum - Hockey
Re: Stony Brook/Quinnipiac/UPenn Hoops - 16 years ago
CornellFanFoote is definitely not an offensive threat. But he is a very good defender in the post and even gave Syracuse some problems. He should get better and better. Absolutely - I don't blame him for not scoring more as the offense does not go through him. Maybe he'll develop post moves, maybe not. I just see a guy that big and want instant rebounds and putbacks. Those instincts aren'tby MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: Stony Brook/Quinnipiac/UPenn Hoops - 16 years ago
Great job by the Red of not giving up after turning a 15-ish point lead into an 8-point deficit. Last two minutes of regulation were very well-disciplined leading to good shot selection and Q fouls, then a similar job after falling behind in the middle of the OT. Nothing flashy from Cornell, and for a 7-footer I don't think Foote is too exciting but he can still develop. Nice showing for theby MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: Cornell v. Duke Basketball on TV - 16 years ago
DirecTV shows the game will be on FSNY (or maybe it was SNY) and a whole bunch of other regional cable stations. Clearly the Red are a national draw.by MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: Cornell v. Duke Basketball on TV - 16 years ago
About a week before the game, go to tvguide.com or tv.yahoo.com, tell it you have DirecTV, and look in the guide. You can search for sports and the game will show up on all the regional channels that show it. There are some regional networks that are not on DTV, but if they're not on DTV and not on local cable, your sports bar won't get them. In my experience, this is much more reliable thanby MOBalum - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Hoops loses to Colgate - 16 years ago
ugarteMichigan hoops has fallen on hard times. The program floundered (by Michigan standards) under Tommy Amaker who was fired and then took a job coaching at (wait for it)... Harvard. From what I heard, Harvard hired Amaker partly for the PR but mostly because they wanted his wife who is an administrator/dean-type person. ursusminorJim HylaJeff Hopkins '82To us purists, there should be one bear, not two. But then how do you get the little bears of the future? Check my username. But don't check the girl bear. At least not without protective gear - you might damage her reproductive organs.by MOBalum - Hockey

Re: What bears? - 16 years ago
Josh '99BeeeejRichH Seriously, someone needs to send them a list of tricks/skits that the old bears from the 90s used to do. Like driving a cab? That doesn't seem like a good idea, what with all the ice and the potential for colliding with the zamboni. Well they have cabs with traction control and radar collision avoidance technology. Or at least they should. Can the skating bears juggle?by MOBalum - Hockey

Visiting fan here, I root for Cornell by association - great traditions ya got, great spirit, tough game last night. (For the record, I was yelling Let's Go Red louder than my Cornellian gf but I could only stand politely during the alma mater. Swaying reminds me too much of a certain maroon team from a train depot. But anyway...) I've only seen CU games on the road - last night was the firby MOBalum - Hockey

Viewing tonight in NJ - 18 years ago
Anyone not wishing to enter the big bad city, join us in East Hanover, NJ! The Ramada Inn on Rt. 10 West has about a thousand TVs and a guy who knows how to use them. Plus he's friendly and was willing to put it on for our group of 3 last night. Come join the fun - no RSVP necessary! Steve not a CU alum, but it's fun to pretend...by MOBalum - Hockey
