Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
margolism If the offense can only score more points than the defense gives up, I think we can have a successful program. I remember back in the Dan Fouts "Air Coryell" era, one wise commentator observing that the San Diego Chargers' defense was so bad that they only way they could win was by scoring more points than the other team.by jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

Harvard's 2-point conversion came in the "bottom of the inning" too, so Princeton's possible concession would be most rational. Re: Men’s soccer - 2 years ago
CU2007 scoop85 With Yale’s scoreless tie against Penn, we are now alone in 2nd place behind 4-0 Princeton. We play the Tigers next Saturday in Jersey in the battle for 1st place. If Cornell prevails we’d then have Ivy also-fans Dartmouth and Columbia to finish out the season, so next week could be for all the marbles. Is the first tie breaker for the championship and ncaa autobid the head-to-heby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports
Re: Men’s soccer - 2 years ago
dbilmes I was at the game at Yale today. We were definitely the better team, but that døesn't always mean a win in soccer. We had sø many quality chances that didn't pan out. In the first half, there was a sequence following a Cornell corner kick where twice we beat the goalie only to have a Yale defender head the ball off the goal line. We had a shot go off the crossbar in the second half, and tby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

French Rage Maybe it's just me but who the hell eats at a sporting event anyways. Eat beforehand. I'm too busy yelling and jumping and such to consider eating a meal at that moment. But that may be just me. For people whose natural dinnertime is around 8pm, not being able to eat between 6:45 and 9:30 is kind of inconvenient.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Women's hockey at RIT roll call - 2 years ago
upprdeck pep band not too happy at RIT.. lots of equipment lost in the ammonia spill Is that why the did the Superband thing in the second intermission? It was pretty cool seeing the two bands play together but it somehow preempted the Alma Mater.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Women's hockey at RIT roll call - 2 years ago
Since the game is now at the Blue Cross Arena, I (+3) will be able to walk over. Note: proof of vax required for ages 12+. (Presumably my EU Digital Vaccination Certificate will work.)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

upprdeck if you really think its a matter of safety then no food is a good policy. if you want to wink wink at being safe then do stuff like SU is doing where a mask is required except while eating/drinking and then ignore it completely when people are walking around with no masks on. To give an example of the varying degrees of seriousness about masking and eating, I saw a picture of a placarby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

jtwcornell91 Trotsky Here is the RPI table. Some fun WTF teams. UNH, Hofstra, Grand Canyon, Marshall, Central Arkansas, "UTRGV". Go Vaqueros! Re: 2021-22 Women's Schedule - 2 years ago
upprdeck interesting because the cornell band has already made plans to be at the RIT game. The game is also listed as part of RIT's homecoming/family weekend. (The men's team is playing SLU at the Blue Cross Arena that evening.)by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Trotsky Jeff Hopkins '82 Trotsky upprdeck why do people think thats true? you think Cornell fans are not showing up the first game or Wisc/Mich fans? The teams with fans that travel wont care. I don't understand why, but I would go to a playoff game if it were on Olympus Mons. We'd have home ice advantage there. It is the "Red Planet." Although it would be CO2 ice. It's -81 F.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

The teams with fans that travel wont care.It will certainly impact more "casual" travel attendance. I don't understand why, but I would go to a playoff game if it were on Olympus Mons. Re: 2021-22 Men's Schedule - 2 years ago
Jeff Hopkins '82 Weder The NCAA has added an off day between the first- and second-round tournament games, so the regionals will take place over 3 days starting this season. And it has nothing to do with more money being spent on an extra night of hotels, dining, rental cars, etc. Seems like it will drive down attendance at regional finals, though.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
Trotsky Since Ivy offenses and kicking and typically bad I wonder if it would be a net successful strategy to just start going for it on 4th all the time unless we're within our own 30. We might prolong the drive only about 30% of the time, but would the opponent be able to take advantage that often? I seem to recall that when I was a student (1987-1990 seasons) we often did the opposite and pby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

Jim Hyla upprdeck the best thing is they keep working on testing and come up with a cheaper faster test.. imagine a $1 a test that comes back in 5 min and everyone who entered got test at a game.. Imagine that it's here. Rapid Test As mentioned in the article, this is basically the situation in Germany, except that it takes 15 minutes.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Dafatone Troyfan Why are vaccinated people required to wear masks? Doesn't the shot prevent the virus from entering cells and replicating? The vaccinated shouldn't have viruses to spread except for what they may have just inhaled. Vaccinated people can still carry and spread the virus. They're less likely to do so than the unvaccinated and they're much less likely to get badly sick. Right,by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

redice Jim Hyla ..... and whether the BU game will really be at MSG. Oh Hell! Let's just invite them to Ithaca. I think it would be a ball to have the CU-BU game at Lynah. Besides, with the crime increase in NYC, who wants to go there? Not me, even for Big Red Hockey. Playing at MSG is cool (I'm wearing the t-shirt as I type this), and we'd been looking forward to something like that beby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Re: RMU dropping hockey - 3 years ago
ursusminor Weder I think this would mean that the CHA women’s conference would lose its autobid, right? They’d be at 5 teams. I think that requirement is waived for two years. After all, the ECAC managed to get an autobid this year despite finishing the season with only two teams.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2021 - NCAA tournament - 3 years ago
billhoward Sudden-death overtime still sucks. TV time is so tight you can't play a 4-minute period? It is a bit odd that they do sudden death in lax but not basketball. Of course if you did non-sudden-death OT in lax you'd need to impose an automatic stall warning or shot clock on any team that took the lead.by jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

cquinn Bootless and Unhorsed plays at a downtown bar called Rasputin's. Problem is, they play from 6 to 9 on Friday nights. Not at all convenient for a hockey fan. Also, Rasputin's doesn't have quite the same beer-soaked, smoky, sing-obscenities-at-the-top-of-your-voice, dive atmosphere as The Last Chance Saloon did. But I do have a nice mp3 of the classic "Bugger Off" that I can seby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
