Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
The more relavent stat is obviously the one i heard on the radio this morning. Teams with mascots that are humans (ie. Patriots, Cowboys, Redskins, Packers, etc.) have an 18-8 record against teams with mascots that are animals (ie. Eagles, Dolphins, Colts, Bengals) in the Superbowl. Too bad Colgate would have to win this weekend to get into the Top 10. How can UNH drop only 1 spot after getting their asses handed to them on a silver platter by UMass-Lowell. Even if they did come back for the win the next night, either UML should move up more or UNH should move lower, right?by Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
Isn't it amazing that the top three teams (by most any "experts'" opinion and most fans' as well) all met or will meet during the course of the year. Obviously Pittsburgh had the upper hand against both the Eagles and the Pats when they met earlier in the year, but those two teams both came together well after the losses. Now they meet in the big game. Minus Pittsburgh's second gamby Nate 04 - Hockey

Not to mention this cheap sex thrills in the halftime show I'm guessing they've told Paul McCartney that he can't rip off his shirt off any time during the performance.by Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: Misleading headline of the week... - 19 years ago
Too bad they didn't add the a link to the site. Imagine having even a fraction of the Cornell students and all others who read the paper voting just once. That would really push up Cornell players numbers.by Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
I think this would be a reach for the Ewing Theory, just because TO obviously made this team better when he played this season. They've just found a way to recover the loss of him so far. It'll be interesting to see how they play without him in the SB or with a gimpy TO if he decides that his doc is a crock and he's waited too long to play in the big game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn'tby Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: Keep voting For McKee - 19 years ago
I was just able to get in and vote. McKee still in fifth. I don't understand these online voting techniques of letting people vote multiple times. My guess is that it is to counter the affect of people casting multiple ballots from multiple identities (emails). I always thought it wierd for baseballs all-star game that you get to vote 25 times. It makes someone's vote who has more time onby Nate 04 - Hockey

Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
I don't think the Miami game was typical of Brady, in fact I know it wasn't. While, I'm rooting for the Eagles and will stand up to anyone who says that the Pats are a for sure winner, I'm not going to deny the fact that Brady is one of the best decision makers in the league. Not to mention the fact that the Pats have got the best coaching staff. Belichek alone makes it great, but Romeo Crenneby Nate 04 - Hockey

All I've heard is the other D word "Dynasty" Since I'm as much an Eagles fan as a Pats hater (being a Bills fan), I like to put in a good word for them. Also being a Syracuse fan, I'd love to see Donnie McNabb win the big one. The only other championship game he was in, was when he sat at the end of the SU basketball bench and loved every minute of it. Now he's the one in the drivby Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
Wait...isn't that what everyone said about the Red Sox. That beating the Yankees was their world series. Then they went out and beat the Cardinals to pulp. I'm not saying the Eagles will beat the Pats to pulp, just pointing out that this year (well the last 12 months) have been pretty crazy for sports. Not to mention this could be destiny, check out the relationship of 4's NFC Championshby Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: How good are the Patriots? - 19 years ago
nope. eagles don't stand a chance, even if TO does play. Funny thing that is what everyone said about the Pats three years ago. That's what everyone said about the Pats this year against the Colts and the Steelers. That's what everyone said about the Panthers last year and they made it a hell of a game. All I'm saying is that when everyone is going for one team, it might be better to goby Nate 04 - Hockey
College Hockey in SI - 19 years ago
This weeks Sports Illustrated has an article by Steve Rushin on the BU-BC hockey rivalry partly in recap of their games last week and also in anticipation of the Beanpot coming up. It's nice to get a article in the front of SI rather than buried at the end in the "Inside this week in sports" section. It's not all that insightful, more of a introduction to the two programs and their hiby Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: Yanks acquire Big Unit; sucks to be a Sox fan right now - 19 years ago
First: Nothing's a done deal and looks like Green doesn't even want to go. (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1947995) Second: Red Sox are far from a one year wonder, they've still got a good team. Their core (sans Pedro - not a big loss) is still together and they added Renteria...I think that's an upgrade at the shortstop position. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankeeby Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: Hornby, Vesce, Marr, Wallace - 20 years ago
He gets little attention but its great to know that a qualified and experienced NCAA goaltender has been there for us if we needed him for the last 2 seasons. I think that can be changed to when we needed him. He played 4 solid games last year when Lenny was gone. I'll definately miss this class the most as I saw 4 years of their great hockey. It's sad to know that I didn't get to thank Ryaby Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: FISH - 20 years ago
Is there a good reason Schafer couldn't arrange for the rink staff to be told: "If they get the fish past the door 'coat check', throw it at the right time, and only hit the ice or Mazzolini, leave them alone"? I agree. Fish throwing is fun, harmless for the most part and one of the things that gets Cornell in the papers around area and maybe in magazines like Sports Illustrated. Isby Nate 04 - Hockey
Standing room only at Harvard - 20 years ago
I think something was mentioned about this last year or the year before, but does Harvard sell standing room only tickets on the night of the game? Seeing how hard it is to get tickets to those games, just wondering if it makes sense to go and try to get a ticket on the night of the game? That said...I still have two tickets for this weekends' game that I'm looking to trade for a pair of ticketby Nate 04 - Hockey
A final poll? - 22 years ago
Does the USCHO do a final poll, such as they do in basketball and football after the final four and the bowl games. It would just be interesting to see where Cornell would rank after an impressive game against UNH even if UNH played a rather poor game (to put it midly) against Maine. Looking at the final regular season poll, it doesn't look like we could really go anywhere, but it's just somethby Nate 04 - Hockey

Well, Lake Placid is a little nicer than Albany (having been to both places this past week), if not in accomodations, definately in atmosphere.by Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: Milestones - 22 years ago
Something to add. If I remember correctly, what my dad has told me was that Ned Harkness had his father Pop Harkness coach the freshmen team the year that Cornell won it's first National Title (1967). Those freshman were the seniors the year that Cornell went 29-0-0.by Nate 04 - Hockey
Re: ECAC first round - 22 years ago
I know the feeling!! The hockey games this weekend are getting me through this weekend and the trip to LP will get me through next week. I don't even want to think about what I will do if we don't win this week. The games should be exciting and another chance for the Red to show Higgins where he should have gone to college if he wanted to win.by Nate 04 - Hockey

Who will we play next? - 22 years ago
With all the teams that we have a possibility to play next weekend winning right now, who does it look like we'll play? I guess Princeton will finish better than 10th and Yale won. What will happen with the tie breaker, should there be one? Nate '04by Nate 04 - Hockey

Re: Jimmy Devellano, Friday March 1 - 22 years ago
I think the Red should come out ready to play, because last weekend they sure didn't look it. They can take that as their relaxation weekend and use this one as a tune up to make sure everything is perfect. I don't want to get down on the Red, but I'm ready and pumped for the plaoffs and I want them to be too. And I would love to see some dominating games!! Re: Underhill - 22 years ago
Matt Underhill definately deserves recognition for being one of the classiest guys on the team. I'm impressed every time a stick is dropped near him by an opposing player. When the play is over he gets it and hands it to the player. Thanks Matt and the rest of the seniors. It's been a great year and hopefully it will continue that way!! GO BIG RED!by Nate 04 - Hockey
