Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Clarkson post-game thread. - 19 years ago
RPI was 1-0-1 vs. Brown this year and they pulled off a 1st round upset 2 years ago.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: ECAC Playoff Predictions - 19 years ago
It would also likely keep Brown as a TUC (Team Under Consideration) which would help Cornell. Unfortunately, they have to get by RPI first, not the best 1st round draw for Brown.by Steve M - Hockey

Tied Hahvahd and catching up to Clarkson. I love all those logos and bar graphs.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Quest for #1 seed - 19 years ago
With another win over a TUC and the stumbling of other teams at the top, this is looking like a real possibility again. The key, other than Cornell winning, is Brown and SLU. Together they represent 4 out of Cornell's 9 wins over TUCs and they are both very close to falling below a 0.500 RPI.by Steve M - Hockey

I'm sure Schafer is gunning for a #1 seed in the NCAAs. If McKee is healthy, he'll almost certainly play. He will have next weekend to rest.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Is this the one you're looking for? - 19 years ago
Just like that but rather the home white equivalent. I'm almost positive they didn't have the bears on the shoulders of the away red jerseys in 85-86, so my guess is that's an 86-87. If I hadn't just ordered a red jersey from Koronis today, I'd probably want that one too. #7 at the time was Chris Grenier, who scored the winner in OT of the 1986 ECAC championship game against Clarkson. Thanksby Steve M - Hockey

It's a night to celebrate. The Ivy League Championship and the Cleary Cup have both been won. Congratulations Red! Even if Cornell didn't play as well as they could, you have to love comebacks like this. Marsh thinks SLU played well, so if we can beat a decent team (SLU has some very good wins under their belt this year) coming from behind on the road when we're not at our best, I think it'sby Steve M - Hockey

Sounds like a good order of priorities.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey Jerseys - 19 years ago
So the only difference was the home jersey had the leaning bears and the away jerseys didn't, i.e. the away jerseys had white running over the shoulders and sleeves? If so, I'll just order a jersey with a #3 numbering kit, maybe get an ECAC patch and be done with it. If there was any way I could do it, I would love to get a jersey like the 1986 home whites with the bears on the shoulders.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: This Week's Column Up - 19 years ago
I don't think the playoff performances of Calgary and Anaheim were flukes. Both teams had good 2nd halves in the respective years of their playoff success, having beaten solid teams in the RS.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cornell Hockey Jerseys - 19 years ago
Koronis has a great price on the jersey, $79.95, but they charge an extra $30 for the numbering kit (and I have to pay CA sales tax). Had I known this a couple weeks ago, I would have bought a game worn jersey before the run on them. Since there were only two left a week ago, my guess is they're all gone. So I'll buy one from Koronis because I really want to have one for the trip(s) I hope tby Steve M - Hockey
Re: The Miracle...I'd love to see it. - 19 years ago
I watched most of the ESPN classic broadcast. Portions of the game were edited out, but I would say they showed over half of the game. I only remember seeing one play whistled offsides, in stark contrast to the NCAA final last year. The game was so much more wide open and fun to watch then. Part of the reason the broadcast took so long is that Craig and Eruzione were commenting on the game duby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Sasha - 19 years ago
The report was that he would out at least through the ECAC tourney. There was no official word of the nature of the injury, I believe Coach Schafer likes to keep those things private. I haven't heard anything about his prognosis, which is to be expected since his earliest return is at least a month away.by Steve M - Hockey

So much for a comeback tonight.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Brown @ Harvard - Tuesday 2/22 - 19 years ago
Beyond the Ivy title and potential Cleary Cup implications, this could be bad for our NCAA seeding. Brown is @ Vermont and @ Dartmouth for their last two games. If they lose this game and those two, a real possibility, their RPI is likely to fall to right around 0.500. They will then need to win their first round playoff series against a bottom feeder that would hurt their RPI unless it's a swby Steve M - Hockey
Re: Props for Moulson - 19 years ago
He's 5th in the NCAA with 0.731 goals per game. Not bad playing for a defense first team.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Cam Abbott? - 19 years ago
I didn't see Cam Abbott on the gametracker lines. Did he play this weekend? If not, when is his anticipated return (if it's OK to ask that)?by Steve M - Hockey

Brown drops a bit further to falling off the TUC bubble. They better start winning some games or we lose 2 TUC wins.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: 1983 Harvard game question - 19 years ago
That was by far the best game of a bad season, and all the comments posted above are correct. Schafer breaks a stick over his head in the intros, we fall behind 4-0 in the first, Henderson scores the winner (6-5) on a breakaway after collecting a pass that seemed to go through the rafters. I was sitting in the second row of Section B at that game. I caught my first and only puck ever at a Coby Steve M - Hockey

When they finally get around to reaching an agreement, the fans should boycott the NHL until both Bettman and Goodenow resign or are fired.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Things Really Heating Up (NHL) - 19 years ago
I'm glad the they're at least putting pressure on one side, but in this labor dispute I'm much more on the side of the players than the owners. NHL hockey players are overpaid, but at least they have made concessions unlike the ridiculously spolied babies that cancelled the World Series just over 10 years ago. Goodenow is correct that Bettman's argument is bogus (all teams will never simultaneoby Steve M - Hockey

Interesting that he picked UNH to make the FF over some of the teams he mentioned as being top dogs.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Things Really Heating Up (NHL) - 19 years ago
It's too bad the fans don't have an organization that could effectively force the firing of both Bettman and Goodenow if they fail to work out a deal. We are the paying customers after all. I don't have any problem with rumors being spread about the canning of either of these guys, and I wish Bettman were not from Cornell.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Beanpaht (pawt) - 19 years ago
The Beanpot is becoming (or has been) a boring tournament because, no matter how close the games are, the outcome is almost always the same. Harvard and Northeastern lboth lose (except when they play each other) and BU wins. I know BC won last year, but the talent difference between BU and BC was overwhelming. Just once I would like to see a Harvard - NU final.by Steve M - Hockey
Re: Quest for #1 seed - 19 years ago
Having a #1 seed virtually assures Cornell will stay east for the regionals, as the chance of more than two eastern teams becoming #1 seeds is practically nil, and #1 seeds are, in order, placed in the regional closest to home. There's also the advantage of having the last line change that's been mentioned before.by Steve M - Hockey
Re:UAA vs Minn - 19 years ago
He was at the blue line against the boards with a defender on him and hit the side of the net. UAA's tying goal was great. The Wisconsin Denver game was exciting as well. The Dish is worth every penny.by Steve M - Hockey
