Trotsky I'm pretty sure Brent Brekke just said you gotta lose to learn how to win. Tell that to the 1970 team.by Swampy - Hockey

dag14 I agree wholeheartedly. My family watches a month's worth of Cornell athletic events for less than the price of one hockey ticket. Not to mention lacrosse & basketball. Whoops, I just did. And with the Dizzy Bundle, I can also watch Godfather of Harlem.by Swampy - Hockey

RichH Give My Regards Trotsky ursusminor Trotsky The real solution is for CMU to go D-1 and join the ECAC. Tartans is an awesome nickname and they'd slot in between Cornell, RPI, and Clarkson for an Eng school, and we could kick out Q. Add RIT and kick out Union and now we're talking. Is there any rumor of CMU fielding a team, or did you just pick them? I suppose they could be Princeton's traby Swampy - Hockey
Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
nshapiro Shouldn't they pull Shane now that the shutout chance is gone, and give the backup some time? I agree. In 1970, Ned put the late, great Bob Rule in, replacing Brain Cropper (who’s he?) in a 11-5 game at Princeton. Schafer has substituted a few times in blowouts, but more frequently he’s gone with the horse that brought him.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
Trotsky I believe our record is 9 for any one period, against Yale in 1968. Note how rare second assists were. Not sure if that was the nature of the goals or if it was just not usual to give 2 assists back then. IIRC, we were much faster than many teams made up of mostly Usonians. So we scored on lots of breakaways and 2-on-1’s.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Union @ Cornell - 1 year ago
Trotsky Holy shit. This must have been what 1967 was like. I thought I remembered such games, but I’ve been over at TBRW, and all I can find is a few 4-goal first periods. Do you know of any 6-goal first- or other periods? Or have we just witnessed a record-setting, historically significant period?by Swampy - Hockey

billhoward Trotsky upprdeck it would be nice if lynah had decent internet to actually use my cell phone while in the building.Funny you say this. I favor the opposite. Put the pacifiers away for a couple hours and be a present human being. Your dildos can function at home. Oh, please! RichH BearLover RichH BearLover I mean, there are all sorts of very reasonable explanations for why blue chippers don’t come to Cornell. But the fact we get so many players who are just a step or two below the blue chippers makes me wonder why we can’t snag a first- or second-rounder from time to time. We were getting them every so often in the early 2000s. There’s also the case of an NHL team/by Swampy - Hockey

Trotsky Skating Dutchmen could be the greatest logo in history if they used their imaginations. Just adapt this to a goddamn skater and you have something spectacular: Are they allowed to call themselves "Orange," or the "Dutch Orange," or the "Orange Dutch, or the "Original Orange," or the "Orange you glad I didn't add a fifth name? Orange"?by Swampy - Hockey

jkahn TimV Trotsky Does Ivy lax have a Mecca like the Palestra is for Ivy basketball? Is it at Princeton? Yes. Re: Love Means Not Having to Say "You Just Suck": Cornell at Harvard - 1 year ago
Scersk '97 I do think we need to put the body to them as much as possible, though. I’m not sure we’re playing as physical as we can. Of course, a missed hip check or two can very well be a puck in the net. Yet Harvard’s rink, at 204 x 87 with lots of room behind the nets, makes that difficult. So you have to tire them out through cycling, which, as you say, the 2003 team would’ve been able toby Swampy - Hockey

scoop85 chimpfood BearLover Harvard’s five goals all scored by top-three-round draft picks. Maybe we can finally dispense with the notion that draft picks don’t matter and that Harvard doesn’t play up to its talent. Only one of them was a snipe. The others were screens and a wide open net from a 2 on 1. To be fair the 2 on 1 was perfectly executed Yeah. We had a 2 on 1 and blew it.by Swampy - Hockey

Re: Tonight on Skate to Survive: Cornell vs Quinnipiac - 1 year ago
Trotsky RichH Give My Regards From TBRW's Top 10 section, tonight's four goals is the largest margin of victory the Big Red has had over a #1-ranked team (dating back to 1983). It also feels really great to spoil a perfect league record. Like that.Somewhere, the Dolphins pop the champagne. Or Ken Dryden and the rest of Cornell's undefeated 1970 team do the same.by Swampy - Hockey

Trotsky Dafatone Trotsky Dafatone Anyone else having trouble finding the game on ESPN+?Pull it from the CU schedule. Thanks!I never use the ESPN+ search, it sucks. George64 billhoward Didn't that embattled new guy from LI have football on his resume? Probably not, because neither Baruch College nor NYU have D1 football teams and he might be accused of embellishing his resume. As we know, embellishment warrants a two-minute penalty. . billhoward The Bill's Damar Hamlin likely had protective covering on his chest. Shoulder pads have plastic (CF?) panels that come down the front and back. That spreads out the force of the impact. I don't know how to model the impact of a 5-ounce lacrosse ball traveling, what, 80 mph, versus a 250-pound player running into or being run into at, say, 15 mph, another player. upprdeck So what was up with the AIC 4 man weave.. several times they played D with just 4 guys and let cornell have at it while the 5th was hanging out at the other blue line..Cornell just kept cycling the puck for 30-45 secs.. They did that multiple times.. Dont recall the last time I saw a team do that consistently. Isn't this the hockey version of "parking the bus"? The other teamby Swampy - Hockey

mountainred This message made me think "Ivy coaches have been pretty steady lately." The last coaches hired were Earl, Engles at Columbia and McLaughlin at Dartmouth before the '16-17 season. Penn hired Steve the season before and everyone else has over a decade of tenure (James Jones has been at Yale for over twenty years). That is crazy. Since 2010, there have been only five coachesby Swampy - Other Sports

scoop85 Emeka Eneli was drafted by Real Salt Lake in the 1st round of the MLS draft, #25 overall pick. First Cornellian to be selected in the 1st round. Following the chatter regarding the USMNT and World Cup, it seems many top players are going straight to the pros, from MLS academies for talented teenagers to MLS, and then for very elite players perhaps to European club teams and the USMNT.by Swampy - Other Sports

nshapiro hanitizer is a wonderful Portmanteau. Tell Webster's, they will love it. Right. But as I understand it, a sniglet is deliberately chosen because a more suitable word does not already exist. I agree that "hanitizer" is a better term than "hand sanitizer." So, as far as I'm concerned "hanitizer" qualifies as a sniglet. But my granddaughter created theby Swampy - Hockey

ugarte hanitizer isn't a mondegreen. a mondegreen is a misheard lyric (or, in the original, line of poetry) like thinking Jimi Hendrix is singing "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" or Elton John asked Tony Danza to hold him closer. So, it can't just be a misheard term; it has to be from song or poetry?by Swampy - Hockey
