Re: Cornell Football 2021 - 2 years ago
upprdeck look at how often Cornell has tried to host a regional to make sure it would stay local if we got in? I saw some locals say they were renaming the bear "Touchdown" to "Field goal" outside the stadium. So even locals are in on the joke about the quality of the team. Surprised they didn't propose "Punt" or "Turnover."by Swampy - Other Sports

Three thoughts on how to resolve some of the differences of opinion. 1. The consensus here seems to be that Columbia did the right thing by bringing in outside experts to evaluate the football operation. The question then becomes did Columbia do the right thing? By what criteria? And if so, why doesn't Cornell do the same? 2. I don't even know if Athletics is also in charge of intramurals.by Swampy - Other Sports

upprdeck dbilmes I saw on TV this morning that North Dakota currently has the second-highest per-capita COVID rate in the country, ranking only behind Tennessee. Given the number of skaters who tested positive over the past week at the US Figure Skating Championships in Nashville, I'm hoping that our men's hockey team doesn't suffer a similar fate. I was reading about how even though the figure sby Swampy - Hockey

Ken711 George64 CU2007 George64 rss77Maxie Baughan used transfers to upgrade the talent plus some good recruiting. Yes, things greatly improved during his tenure. In his final three years, his teams were 20-9-1! Too bad he couldn’t keep his fly zipped! In eight seasons, Archer’s teams have won 21 games. . Elaborate!! David Harding Jim Hyla From the Grand Forks Herald Cornell played the game without head coach Mike Schafer, who stayed back at the hotel because he was "under the weather." Associate coach Ben Syer served as acting head coach. He's now 8-0-4 in his career as acting head coach. Another snippet from the same article. While we were sweeping NoDak, our ECACH colleagues have been doing their best to fuck our pairwise: Toothpaste 3 < NMich 6, Clarkson 1 < UNH 5. Trotsky Excellent series. North Dakota did outshoot us by a non-trivial amount, but way to exploit our chances and get the wins. The guys are going to have a very nice trip home. Pretty damn good for a “rebuilding” year, when about half the team is playing its first year of college hockey.by Swampy - Hockey

Dafatone I missed a bit, then didn't have sound. Did we get a major for that hit in the middle of the third? Last thing I heard was announcers saying the guy just blew a tire. Nope. 5 minutes & GMC. But we killed it.by Swampy - Hockey

More important than his weather preferences, his record shows him often averaging a point/game or more. He had a drop off in performance when he stepped up to the USHL in 2018-19, but in the current season, at Madison in the USHL, he's played in 22 games and scored 9 goals and 13 assists. Given his size, he reminds me of Cam Donaldson. I hope I'm right.by Swampy - Hockey

billhoward Box score does not show the attendance for 2021. It felt like 10,000-plus out of 18,006 for hockey. The $25 tickets we got in the corner were listed online as a "Boston" section. The two rows in front of us were all-Cornell and everybody needed to get up and leave to pee or get another beer while the game was in play. But okay, they did make it to the game. billhoward A win and an OT win did little for Cornell's poll standings Nov. 22 USCHO/Coaches: Cornell falls from 9 to 10. Notre Dame, winner of 2 from #1 Michigan (in OT, both), jumped from 15 to 8; Western Michigan went from 13 to 7 (swept #2 St. Cloud State); and Nebraska Omaha went from 10 to 9. At the 2018 reunion the administration made a big deal about the incoming Engineering class be >50% women. Around the same time I read about a dean at Tufts, who was on the market for a university presidency, was getting kudos for raising the female share in Tuft’s engineering school to 15%. Then again, back in the day (1960s), IIRC, Cornell’s Engineering school had 5 women and the ratio of meby Swampy - Other Sports

upprdeck thats soccer.. give up 1-0-0-2-1-1 and go 3-2-1. The margin is so small and the reward for the D when you get ahead is to make it even harder by bunkering. A modified scoring system might help a bit but many would think it would ruin the game to try to have teams try to score and not just play 10 in the box. Even something simple like on set pieces limit how many can start in the box. Laby Swampy - Other Sports
