billhoward I for one plan to spend 11 pm to 2 am EST Monday/Tuesday, watching Cornell -- sorry, Team Canada -- try to make amends for 2018. Even if this is not the final. There should be a drinking game, you down a shot every time there's another up close and personal of an American athlete overcoming a personal struggle to be on the team and aim for gold. Meanwhile, there's some Ukraine skatby Swampy - Other Sports

Weder Cornell went 13-0 this weekend, including wins over No. 2 Notre Dame and several other ranked teams, and is 32-0 heading into the Ivy championships. Cornell is ranked No. 4, but Princeton is No. 1 and Columbia is No. 3. This is hardly a fair comparison: CornellBigRed That victory, and the two it would add later in the day, surpassed the 1970 unbeaten, untied NCAA championship men'sby Swampy - Other Sports

billhoward Al DeFlorio 3-2 win over #7 Colgate today. Glad someone can beat Colgate. You said that for all of us. One hopes a team heavy on first-years looks a lot better in February than November last. I had anticipated being able to fulfill this hope for the men's team too. Unfortunately, injuries and illness have caused the team to take two steps back for every step forward this year. Bby Swampy - Hockey

BearLover Trotsky I don't want to be That Guy, but these are the games that Galajda, Iles, McKee, Scrivens, and Gillam won 1-0. ... With that said, Shane looked like a deer in the headlights on the breakaway that led to the second Brown goal. How do you give up that much space between the legs? ... Shane looked like he'd never practiced defending 1-on-1. The first goal wasn't his fault.by Swampy - Hockey

IMHO, the entire season needs to have an asterisk because COVID is making every game a crap shoot. Witness our series at ASU. We weren't missing many players, but COVID made CU implement more draconian limits on student activities, which deprived the team of practice time. Similar things have happened to other teams, except perhaps Michigan, which lied about COVID contacts. I bet if someoneby Swampy - Hockey
Re: Brown Away Rescheduled - 2 years ago
Beeeej The Brown away game now appears on the calendar for Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 3pm. Brown's at Princeton on Friday 1/28 and home hosting LIU on Sunday 1/30. Meanwhile, we're at home vs Dartmouth and Harvard on the 28th & 29th. So we'll have tougher opponents & travel, but an extra day to recuperate. Hoping Coach, Andreev, & Stienberg will be back by the weekend.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Fencing - 2 years ago
Robb Weder I know nothing about fencing but just noticed that the team is 19-0 and ranked No. 9 in the country. Cornell only has women's fencing and NCAA fencing is a coed sport, so does that mean that Cornell's best hopes are to compete for individual national championships but it isn't in the picture in the team competition? No, even though the men and women typically travel together (when aby Swampy - Other Sports

dbilmes The women's basketball team was losing at Columbia, 26-2, to start the game, although they did regroup to cut the lead to two points before eventually losing by 11. Their coach, Dayna Smith, has been there 19 seasons, the second longest tenure of any Ivy women's coach. Dafatone Well, Angello got like four minutes of ice time, which is not a great sign. FWIW, Barron got scarce minutes too when he’d been called up previously. But now, thanks partly to Covid, he’s getting a regular fourth-line shift. I think I’ve even seen him on the PP or PK. Certainly the Ranger announcers are giving him lots of props. Re: Yale game postponed - 2 years ago
This all sounds quite weird. Yale postpones Friday’s game ostensibly because of Covid, but not Saturday's game. Then Brown cancels games on both nights even though (at least up until then) Brown had kept both nights’ games on the schedule. But now that Brown no longer is in the picture, Yale reschedules the games formerly known as Friday’s and Saturday’s to Saturday and Sunday, Covid not withstanby Swampy - Hockey

Ken711 Swampy I wonder if fans can shame them into doing something. For example, distribute paper bag masks before the game the same way we distribute newspapers before hockey games. I saw a few letter to the editors in the Cornell Daily Sun a few months back. Yeah, but we need something that will draw national attention.
